Marriott's Frenchman's Cove
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed May 22, 2014

This resort is only 7 years old and Marriott has already renovated it due to its popularity. Our second visit and just as wonderful as the first time. Actually better. We like the fact that a few minutes away in a free shuttle is Frenchman's Reef Marriott hotel. And with the new dock in place $7 gets you a short ten minute ferry ride into downtown Charlotte Amalie. Some folks don't like the fact that being built directly into a hillside there are two or three elevators to be used getting between room and pool. They prefer resorts built on flat ground. Didn't bother us and the rooms are so well appointed and equipped it was a pleasure to stay there. An expanded marketplace provided all we needed for casual meals and the live music was vey enjoyable. We'll be back

We were here with a big group and they handled it well getting us all checked in in a timely manner. The beaches were amazing. The best part was the massages we had in the spa!!!! Best massage ever. I would go back just for a massage. The service desk, joe I think was his name really helped in planning our week since we didn't do that beforehand. We did everything he recommended and loved it. Don't go without your passport so you can go to the British Virgin Islands. Well worth it.

We stayed at the Marriott Frenchman's Cove in a timeshare. The property is very nice and I do not have any complaints. The room was very well maintained and clean. Great customer service from the management of the property. I had a couple of minor issues arise and they were dealt with very quickly and professionally. The grounds are awesome and very well kept. Would definitely stay here again and recommend the property.

This location was perfect for our family of 5. The condo was clean. The grocery store in town has pretty much all you will need for the week. We only got water bottles, snacks, fruits and breakfast food. There is an ATM machine in the main lobby. The only store onsite has a coffee bar, some food items, ice cream, souvenirs and emergency beach and bathroom items. Some other comments mentioned "three elevators" to get to the beach. We went down the stairs and it didn't bother us. The views are beautiful. The gym is small but fine. Get there early to get a treadmill because it gets busy at around 8am. The beach is not that big and no big waves but was clean, never crowded and we always found chairs at the beach or around the pool. The beach is perfect for snorkeling which we did every day. Don't miss the night kayaking and beach BBQ dinner (book early). Best if you rent a car and take day trips to other beaches, take a ferry boat to St. Johns and go out to dinner in town. The only reason for my 4 stars rating is that when we arrived at the hotel past 5pm, our room wasn't ready although the check-in was at 4pm. A few other families had the same issue and we ended up having to wait on the beach until 6pm. Also, the front desk is not always knowledgeable when asking basic questions on the island and for recommendations. Only restaurant on site is more for lunch or light dinner. We had dinner in town every night. Best restaurant was Havana Blue at the other Marriott Hotel next door. You can take the free shuttle to get there. Would recommend and go back.

Love this place, everyone we met/planned our vacation with including Fran Salomon, Alicia Dalmida, Michael Wilcox....fantastic and thank you!! We were in Tortola bldg, newly renovated, great views from 3rd flr. A few times we swam in the pool at the Morningstar, we had it to ourselves which was nice & also quiet enough to read a book. If you don't want to walk just take the shuttle. The resort is on a hill so several stairs to climb, but it was fine. Good snorkeling infront of Frenchman's Cove, and my kids loved the water trampoline & inflatable rock wall, wish more Marriott's had those. Highly recommend the excursion The Cat at the Marriott Catamaran snorkel trip to Buck Island Reef!!

I am not sure what the the deal is here, but it seems like there are are a number of owners who own a unit here and therefore believe its their right to treat it like a home pool rather than a hotel. Crking property with crazu attitude.

My family (2 parents, 2 children 9&10 and one sitter) visited Frenchman’s Cove during Easter Break 2014 (about 3-4 weeks ago, reviewing 5/10). To preface, I am a Marriott Platinum Member, we have stayed at Marriott properties in Aruba, PR, Scrub Island, Grand Cayman over the years. This property was truly one of our favorites.

The property itself is not that large (can appear bigger than it is because how condos are positioned on steep hillside location); even if you are near the main check-in building, you are never more than 5 minutes from any of the amenities at the resort. The condos are similar to other Marriott Time Share locations. They have just replaced washer/dryers and the kitchens were stocked very well. Also, it’s about 15 minute taxi ride from airport, depending on traffic.

The pool area seemed small at first but in the end was great. The way they have set-up chairs, there was always a good place to set up camp (we were there near 100% occupancy). The best thing about the pool is it’s close proximity to the beach. We stayed at both the Surf Club and Ocean Club in Aruba and their facilities are wonderful but you do feel you are not “right next” to the beach. FC made that part great. The beach itself was adequate and the water activities’ for families (snorkel, water trampoline & “blow-up” rock wall) were great. Our 9 year old loved all the activities’ and we were able to watch her from the pool area when she was in the ocean and that was great! She even got to snorkel with (2) sea turtles and that made her vacation.

The resort has one restaurant but is located next door to the Marriott Frenchman’s Reef/Morningstar, so there are plenty of eating options (you will pay traditional Caribbean rates). It was very nice to have full service Marriott right next door (again very similar to Aruba concept).

Finally, what made the trip for us was the staff, they were great, they made the vacation. Our 10 year old has CP, Blind and in a wheel chair; the staff made sure we had a condo that would help us utilize the resort and every time we needed something they truly went out of their way to help us. Diane at the front desk was especially wonderful and my wife said she would be very upset with me if I didn’t make that point in my review.

In closing, our trip wasn’t perfect but was very close. If you are looking for a condo/time share resort that is family oriented but also has a large Marriott resort right next door, this may be your ticket. We will definitely be returning to St Thomas and the Frenchman’s Cove.
