“Perfection in the Tropics!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 19, 2013

At Home in the Tropics is perfection in a B&B. The innkeepers, location, surroundings, accommodations, views, and delicious breakfasts were all 10/10. We had a delightfully enjoyable stay at At Home in the Tropics and hope to return again soon.

My wife and I stayed for four nights (a long time in one place for us) but could have stayed longer. From the initial welcome by Pam with a tour of the property to the time we left it was a good experience. The property is wonderfully located above the harbor in the historic district. There are only four rooms, located on one level. The housekeeping was excellent, the place was very clean and there was loads of outside space. We enjoyed the evenings on the terrace with a book and a beverage from the honor bar. We normally eat continental breakfast only but we did enjoy Pam's cooked offerings although we didn't do justice to them.
Pam gave us a lot of local information including restaurant and sightseeing suggestions that were very helpful.
It is a fairly steep climb from the town to the B and B. We are in our late 60's and managed the 100 or so steps a couple of times a day, but this may not be the place for people who would find this difficult.

Room Tip: Rooms 1 and 2 have a private outside sitting area but not a big issue because there is so much space...

We were fortunate enough to make same-day reservations for 2 nights at this property. We had just had a bad experience elsewhere, and I was hoping to salvage the remainder of our vacation time. The reviews on TA were so good, I was a bit skeptical (if it sounds too good to be true, it probably isn't), but happily they are on target. Pam and Matt, the innkeepers, are warm, friendly and laid back. Their property is lovely...4 small but beautiful rooms that, along with the rest of the premises, are fastidiously clean. The views overlooking the rooftops and harbor, the inviting pool, the shaded area with lounges and fluffy towels...everything is well-thought out to present visitors with a relaxing stay. Breakfasts are beautifully presented and delicious. It was so nice to be able to walk into town via the steps to dine locally. We've already reserved our room for another visit next winter. Thank you, Pam and Matt, for your hospitality. It's obvious you love what you do.

Room Tip: Room 4 is an end unit next to the pool, but all are pretty much the same size. Rooms 1&2 offer...

The property is light and airy with ample common area for the four guest rooms. Both the common areas and rooms are clean and well maintained.

Pros:
• Pam and Matt are exceptional B&B hosts - attentive, available yet unobtrusive, very hospitable, and friendly;
• Motel style layout allows each room a separate entry from a secured courtyard giving privacy, security, and freedom of access;
• Breakfast is a culinary work of art! This is not your run-of-the-mill continental fare. Pam prepares a chef quality, creative, delicious meal;
• Amazing view of the harbor and surrounding township;
• Close to downtown and easy (day time) walk for anyone in average shape.

Cons:
• Breakfast is served promptly at 8:30 a.m. and you get what is served (no buffet or menu) but Pam will accommodate special requests made in advance;
• Located on steep hill: be prepared to manage your own luggage. Given the owner's wonderful disposition I'd guess that they would try to help if needed;
• Not kid oriented - they allow children over 12 yrs but this is really a relaxed adult environment;
• Not handicapped accessible nor by for anyone with limited mobility;
• No safe place to dine within walking distance at night - take a cab or stay and starve. We could not find pizza/food delivery for evening meals and it is just not safe to walk to any restaurants (at night);
• The a/c units in the bedrooms are much noisier than typical.

The cons outweigh the pros above in number only and consider the unique environment of the facility. This is a wonderful and well run B&B. Stay and enjoy!

Room Tip: Rooms 1 & 2 are a bit nicer because they share a semi-private deck but given that there are a to...

My wife and I and 6 other friends rented out the entire AHITT B & B for a 5 night stay for our St. Thomas wedding. The place was immaculate, the accommodations couldn't have been any better and Pam and Matt were the ultimate hosts. Breakfast every morning in the open air terrace was delicious. Even our special request for a very early wedding morning breakfast was met without hesitation.

Not enough can be said about the way this Bed & Breakfast is ran. Pam and Matt not only provide a wonderful place to stay but they provided us with assistance on places to eat, transportation information, and maps. We saw them only during breakfast, however they also provided us and all of our guests with their cell phone #'s and were readily available when we needed them.

There were private entrances to each room, a pool, a small refrigerator provided for each individual room (in the pool area), & small coolers provided to take with you on day trips. There was also a daily maid service. Because we rented the entire B & B, I literally felt like we had a private villa to ourselves with a gourmet breakfast everyday. The clean quiet comfortable rooms (with air conditioning), the ambient lounge area and the magnificent views all make for an unbeatable stay.

We can not thank Pam & Matt enough for such a pleasant stay at their B & B. I honestly was sad to leave this place even though we were going on to our honeymoon!

My husband and I stayed for 5 nights at this bed and breakfast. We found the place very clean and quiet. The breakfast was excellent and served with love. It was more than we expected. The personal service and advice was great. The view and location was outstanding and very safe. We could not have asked for a better place to stay. When we return to St. Thomas, we will definitely stay at the "At Home In The Tropics" again.

Room Tip: Room one and two have the best view with the access to the balcony.

A fabulous experience. Our hosts were welcoming.well informed and great cooks. The property was well situated for exploring the historic district and shopping. Relaxing near the pool and enjoying the view was a treat. Have already recommended At Home In The Tropics to friends. We look forward to our next stay.
