“They go on island time!”

I liked the ferry, as it was a comfortable ride between the islands. Just don't expect them to arrive at the terminal on time. This is the islands after all! They definitely are on their own time. The fees for various trips are somewhat reasonable. however the departure tax is a bit over the top. But what can you do?! Unless you want to charter a boat for the day, and go island hopping, this is one of the only ways around to the other islands.

Being from the Boston area we were surprised to see our ferry was the Provincetown III from Boston of all places! Turns out the company is associated with a cruise line company back home that we use for harbor cruises etc. The trip from CA to Tortola was good, ferry was nice, spotless, comfortable and crew were friendly. We left and arrived on schedule each way and had no complaints and would use them again. Yes all passengers have to wait to unload bags but it makes sense given the customs and the crew being busy with luggage. Customs can be slow but that’s nothing to do with the ferry.

My husband and I went to Tortola for the day so we took the ferry from Charlotte Amalie to road town. We rode on the top of the boat instead of down below in the a/c and it was truly worth it

I was impressed with the process getting from St. Thomas to Tortola. I purchased my ticket boarded the ferry and in less than an hour I was in Tortola. It was much quicker getting through customs in Tortola than it was in St. Thomas.

If you like to be on the water with great views sit on the top of the ferry which has comfortable chairs. There is a new departure tax from Virgin Gorda...now $ 20.00 instead of $5.00. What's up with that? Some ferries offer senior discounts. Be sure to ask for it.
