“Love The Green Iguana”
Reviewed June 5, 2012

I can't say enough about this place! The location is perfect. Just a short walk to downtown, and not far from the airport. Five of us stayed here for only one night on a girl's trip on the way back from STJ/Jost. We had 3 rooms and all of them were very clean. John and Gwen were very accomodating.....they let us leave all of our luggage in 1 room so we could go shopping and have lunch since we had a later flight out. We also loved the fact that since it was just ladies travelling alone, it seemed very secure.

Talk about giggly girls! You 5 were having so much fun! We are happy we could accommodate your late check out. It is not always possible but we understand some flights leave later in the day and you need a place to store your bags. If we are not able to extend your room stay for a few hours, we are happy to store your luggage safe and secure in our office! See you soon?!

I just spent a week with John and Gwen and had a terrific stay! I stayed in Room A1, which had a balcony with a wonderful view of the Charlotte Amalie Harbor, and full kitchen including all of the pots, pans, and accessories needed for the week. The Green Iguana is a very well managed, clean and secure small hotel. It is within walking distance to town, and a short drive to many desirable areas, including shopping, Frenchtown, the cruise ship shopping area, and Magen's Bay. The properties appointments are simple, but distinctly St. Thomas. John and Gwen do a wonderful job of taking care of details, and providing a great venue for a wonderful vacation or a business stop-over. I am 10 year former resident of St. Thomas and I can tell you that the location on Blackbeard's Hill is a safe as any on island, and the Green Iguana iself has a secure front entry and is positioned on the hillside in a self-contained manner. I can also share that from a value standpoint, The Green Iguana is a "Best In Class", as far as small hotels. You will not find a fully appointed-with fully functional kitchen-hotel at such a value. Thanks John and Gwen for the hospitality!!!

My husband and I had spent most of our week-long vacation in a house on St. John USVI, but for our last night we wanted to stay in St. Thomas so we'd be a bit more convenient to the airport. We found the Green Iguana listed on Trip Advisor, and went to the Green Iguana Hotel's website, which was easy to navigate and has plenty of up-to-date pictures of each of the nine rooms. We submitted an online availability inquiry about room H2, and received a very prompt response. I called and spoke with Gwen, who said that H2 was her favorite room, and was able to make our reservation without a problem.

The hotel is perched on a hill overlooking Charlotte Amalie, about a 5-10 minute taxi ride from the ferry dock. The room we reserved was clean, well furnished with a comfortable bed, and has a great balcony area overlooking the town and the ocean. Some people might have found the room a little on the small side... but being in the USVI, we weren't planning on being in the room much so that was a non-issue. Of the time spent in our room, the majority was spent lounging in the chairs on the spacious balcony. The garden area in the center of the property is lovely and has a nice picnic area, which we would have greatly enjoyed if we'd had more time.

When we first arrived, John and Gwen weren't on the property but the staff that was there was very friendly and told us how to get to Charlotte Amalie via the 99 Steps, and gave us a few suggestions on their favorite places. The walk down to grab dinner was super easy... the walk back up the steps was a bit more challenging but enjoyable if you don't mind the uphill walk. (We rarely drive a car, so this was not a problem for us.) Some people had mentioned that the neighborhood might not be the safest, but we were out during daylight hours and just barely into dusk, and felt perfectly safe.

We met John and Gwen after we returned from dinner. They were great hosts and we spent quite a while chatting with them that evening. It was great to meet such friendly, interesting people and get a chance to hear their stories about the island and how they came to manage the Green Iguana. They let me borrow the office computer to access our flight information and print our boarding passes, which was greatly appreciated! (There is also wi-fi in the rooms, but I needed a printer.)

If my husband and I return to St. Thomas - and hopefully we'll get that opportunity again - we'll definitely plan on making the Green Iguana a part of our trip. It's

Room Tip: H2 has a great, spacious balcony and a lovely view!

Guest Room H2 is indeed Gwen's favorite! It's the BALCONY that makes H2 so inviting! The view of Town, the Harbor, the islands in the harbor, and the sunsets are incredible from any room, but H2 is still a favorite of many Guests! Thank you for visiting with us after your dinner! We enjoy hearing your stories of how you came to St. Thomas as well! We hope you will get that chance to return to The Green Iguana Hotel very soon! I'm sure we'll have more stories to share by then! ; )

We really enjoyed our stay at the Green Iguana for one day before our sailing trip and then two days at the end of our sailing. We really felt at home here. Gwen and John were so friendly and helpful, even making sure that our laundry was done.
They also gave us tips on the best places to eat and provided us with discount coupons for the Blackbeard tour.
We would highly recommend this comfortable and homey hotel!

I have stayed at The Green Iguana twice, both time for only one night, but still found it amazingly pleasant. It is small and charming with very personal service. The rooms are very nice with great views of Charlotte Amalie. Would definitely stay there again.

We had a great time staying here - the garden is really pretty and the hotel managers were very friendly and helpful. We stayed for 1 night only but should have stayed longer.

We wish you could have stayed longer too! The Historic District at Charlotte Amalie has so much to offer! Perhaps on your next adventure to St. Thomas you will be able to take advantage of our 3, 4 and 5 Night Specials, stay longer, and explore St. Thomas's Historical District!

I've been coming to the Green Iguana often for a couple years now on business, and wouldn't want to stay anywhere else on St. Thomas. The hotel is clean. The internet works great. There's DirecTV in every room. Some reviews might mention it being near a not so great neighborhood, but once you turn off the road and up their driveway, the location itself is quite nice, right at the top of the "100 steps' next to Blackbeard's Castle, and is quite secure. I've always felt 100% safe. John & Gwen are great hosts, too. Great people, and more than willing to help in any way they can. You won't regret staying here...and probably, you'll end up coming back again and again, like me! :-)
