Our second port of call on our cruise (Carnival Dream) on January 28, 2014 was Charlotte Amalie. One of our group of three wanted to snorkel, so as "shore excursion finder" I chose this particular trip through the United cruise site catalog. Random choice sometimes works really well! Our sail to the snorkeling area at Buck Island with Fury Charters, with crew of Mike and Nikki, couldn't have been more perfect. Small group, great camaraderie and local information, and it looked like the snorkelers had a great time while two of us lounged on the boat watching all the activity and indulging in the tasty rum punch and snacks provided by Fury. The capacity of the craft is approx. 25, there is a head below in the cabin and a shade tarp if you prefer to not be in the sun. Biodegradable sunscreen highly recommended, but apply before getting on the craft; no aerosol spray is permitted once aboard. Take into account your susceptibility of experiencing motion sickness. If you've never snorkeled, Nikki and Mike will be sure you learn the basics, and it is guided once in the water, with Nikki going out with the group. The trip is roughly an hour to the site, an hour snorkeling, and an hour return...for cruise ship passengers, round up the whole adventure to 4 hours and do try to be on time for the start. We did wait for a few passengers who were delayed, but you really don't want to miss this!
