“Sea turtles & Sailing”
Reviewed August 21, 2013

When I called to book they were very friendly on the phone. We stayed at the Marriot and the fury brought their boat right up to our beach to pick us up and drop us off. The trip was educational and fun. We were able to swim up close and personal with sea turtles and even a spotted eagle ray. Once back on the boat we enjoyed rum punch and snacks.
The staff is AMAZING!!!
There are other companies out there that promise the same thing but when they over-crowd their boat and charge more. I spoke with another family that went with the other company and they said the rum punch was weak and they hardly saw any turtles.

Thank you for your review. We alway try to accommodate our guests who stay at the Marriott as that is our home base. See you next year and please spread the word that we still pick up at the beach.

“Very fun”
Reviewed August 19, 2013

We had a great time snorkeling with the turtles and other marine life. The sail out to the island is great and the sail back is even better with the punch and beer. I would recommend this trip to anyone.

“Wow!!!!”
Reviewed August 19, 2013

Fabulous time with Captain Mike and Nicki! Great experience from booking until returned to the dock! The directions to get to Fat Turtle from the cruise ship dock were simple, it was really only about a five minute walk! Our port time was 8:00 a.m. but we actually got off the ship at 7:50 and were at the Fat Turtle by 8!! plenty early for our 8:30 departure time. This was our first time on a real sailboat so that was a great experience too. Captain Mike and Nicki took time to explain that everyone should put on sunscreen before we left so it would have time to soak into our skin and not be a hazard to the reef or the turtles. They provided snorkel gear and gave a good safety lesson prior us getting in the water, and explained that the turtles are protected and it was against the law to touch them..... it was obvious that they truly care about the turtles and reef and want to help protect them! They also had noodles to float on or boogie boards with a viewing hole for the littler children. Nicki got in the water with us and provided a short guided tour we saw a baracuda, a stingray, and several turtles before heading over to the reef to get a look at that! After the guided snorkel tour we were free to explore the reef or head back over to the turtles. Watching the turtles was great.... if you are patient and watch them they come up about every 5 to 10 minutes to get air and you can swim beside them, LOL I had to scoot out of the way of one them! I could have stayed for hours just watching the turtles. It wasn't very crowded when we went, a couple of other boats were there but they left shortly after we got there and we were almost alone. After snorkeling for a good amount of time, we got back on board and got a nice fresh water shower, rum punch (sodas for the kids) and light snacks, and then had an enjoyable sail back to the dock! I will definitely do this tour again next time I'm in St. Thomas. And Nicki..... you were right I got the money shot :-) posting it below.

Great great day, can't say enough about how much we enjoyed this tour!

“Pros and Cons”
Reviewed August 2, 2013

Pros: Small group on our excursion. Total of 14 or so. Had a nice sail out the the island and back in. Friendly and knowledge crew, Captain Mike and Nikki. We were able to relax where we wanted while sailing. Our bags were packed away for safe storage. Provided snorkel gear and for those who weren't able to use gear had the option of having a small hand raft that you could see down into the water. This was more for smaller children or those who weren't able to snorkel. Rum punch, beer, and snacks were provided on the way back to the dock. Freshwater hose off was nice after swimming in the sea.

Cons: Had to take a "guided tour" in the water before you were able to swim on your own. Cove was crowded with other boats, snorkelers, and sea treks. Reef wasn't bad, turtles were very few. We maybe saw 4 and those were on the bottom which was roughly 20ft down. We were able to get some pictures when were leaving the cove when the turtles decided to come up and swim on the surface.

The overall experience of this excursion was a good one. Just a friendly note. You can NOT touch the turtles!! We didn't..I am just passing the information along. LOL. Also to get off the ship there is a jump off the side. To get back on there is a large ladder on the back to use. I do believe you can use this as well to get into the water if you don't want to jump.
They do have koozies and shirts for sale for a decent price. We bought kooze which we love.

Our kids went to Coral World where they were alone in swimming pool area with a sea turtle. They had a much more intimate experience than we did and they loved it. I think we will try that next time.

Thanks for taking the time to write the review. I happy you were satisfied with the trip as a whole. There's not much we can do about the crowds on certain days when there are many cruise ships in port, but we do try to stay longer than the other boats to give our guest more alone time with the turtles. Coral world is wonderful. We have taken a few of our injured and sick turtles there for rehab. I think that seeing these beautiful creatures in the wild is a better experience though.
