For a romatic getway, and a real home away from home, this is hard to beat. It's a a completely charming place with just seven separate "cottages" (so make your reservations EARLY!) cleverly created from the remaining outbuildings after the 19th century villa burned some years ago. We stayed in the "Concina," once the central kitchen for the entire estate. Gorgeous stone walls, two large ceiling fans (no air conditioning and you won't miss it a bit), a beautiful mahogany bed, and a useful kitchenette contained within what was once the great fireplace. There's a little Grecian style swimming pool where you are welcome to swim any time, day or night. There are no phones in the rooms and television is limited to locally available channels, but if you must stay connected there's wireless internet in a couple of places, and Luisa, the owner, says she will have access at all units soon.
Here you can sit out on the patio overlooking the harbor, sip your rum punch and watch the cruise ships coming and going, or walk down to town (about five minutes - longer coming back up because the streets are very steep) and stroll along the strand or explore the many shops that cater primarily to the cruise ship clientel. There no restaurant on the premises or nearby and if you really want to eat all your meals out (instead of taking advantage of the kitchenette), you may want to rent a car or take taxis.
This is not the place for folks who want an "all-inclusive resort." But if you like local flavor and history and a feeling of being a guest of the family, don't miss this place. Luisa is wonderful!
