Emerald Beach Resort
Reviewed September 22, 2010

We stayed at this hotel in June, 2010 for our honeymoon and we loved it! Staff was very friendly and helpful in telling us about sites and restaurants to checkout. Tamara at the front desk was great. She made us feel like we were the only guests at the hotel. The room was very clean, spacious and had balcony facing the beach. Actually all rooms in this hotel have balconies facing the beach. There was flat screenTV, DVD player, small refrigerator and an electronic safe in the room, which was a great amenity to have. The pool area was very nice and had a waterfall. Beach was only steps away from our room and was very clean and not too crowded. There was a beach bar that served the best cheese burgers that we ever had in our lives! and one of their drinks that we got addicted to was Banana Cabana! They also had a restaurant which served good italian food as well as big breakfast buffet. We got one of their honeymoon packages which included Champagne, rose petals on the bed, breakfast in bed and dinner on the beach, which was really romantic. Ishani, their wedding/honeymoon planner was great. She made sure that we had everything perfect for our honeymoon. Whenever we'll go back to St. Thomas, we'll DEFINITELY stay in this hotel.

I second guessed myself after making the reservation because of its proximity to the airport, but this was not a problem. The bay is very private with good snorkeling and very close to shopping and restaurants. The hotel is fine. Air conditioning was great and room was nice and clean. You will never find a hotel closer to a more beautiful private beach. The staff was very friendly. Several of my day trips took me past much nicer resort hotels, but they seemed to be much farther away from the beaches and shops. I would definately stay here upon any return to St. Thomas.

The location of this hotel is very good despite the proximity to traffic at the nearby airport. The view from the hotel room is fantastic and is spacious. My family rented a few rooms and each had the same set -up with a fabulous ocean view. Up to this point, we received excellent customer service
The tropical storm/hurricane hit the island on our thrid day into our visit. On the Monday evening, the staff handed out matches in preparation for the strom, The rooms were equipped with candles. Sure enough, lights went out in the evening. We were infomed afterwards that this was the case for the entire island. Shortly after, the winds and rain started pounding which resulted in rain entering the room via the balcony glass doors. Along with no electricity was also no water. That was the case throughout the night into the morning at about 9 am. Trying to find your way from to the cafeterial was next to impossible as darkness overtook the whole place. As there was no water available in the room for bathing or otherwise, you were forced to make your way over to the cateferia (if you were bold enough) only to be asked for your room number in order to be charged for water.
One of the staff members went around with his searchlight to inform guests that the cateferia would be closed two hours early. No other attempt was made to see that guests were comfortable. We were left to deal with the water coming through the gap in the sliding doors by pulling off bed sheets and towels and placing them on the floor against the glass door in an attempt to stop the flow into the room. Throughout Tuesday, the water service in the hotel room was hit and miss until much later on when we received regular service in the room. The electricity was a hit and miss also which is not much of an issue during the day time.

Clearly, nature has a way of presenting itself that makes it difficult to have things go the precise way one would like. With this said, there is still a mimimum level of customer service that is expected particularly in the service industry. I expected at least a few bottles of water (free of charge) while the rooms were without water of any kind. I expected some sort of 'checking up' from the staff to see if guests are OK despite the challenges. I expected the hotel to have a generator. The Carribbean is plagued with storms.....why be caught off guard for things that can easily be avoided. Lastly, I expected 'management' of the hotel to at least understand our frustration with their failure to perform basic customer service. Instead, we received a barrage of excuses including 'Act of God'. My family has concuded that it will take an act of God to get us back in that hotel. However, should you choose to go anyway, say hello to Euna. She was phenomenal under pressure. She moved like she had wings on her feet while serving guests in the cafeteria the morning after the storm.

We spent 1 night at this resort from 8/28-08/29, 2010. We were really impressed with this property on airport ground. From the outside, the property looks just ok; however, the lobby was nice, a bit hot but, nice. Friendly and attentive staff greeted us and they were able to check us in at 9am.

All rooms have beach front views; the rooms were cleaned, updated, airy and newer. The bathroom was nicely appointed, roomy and cleaned. The do charge a $13.90 resort fee; the room was well maintained, clean, comfortable and it had a flat screen TV!

The beach was nice and clean (except for a couple of used condoms and condom wrappers). The resort had a big bar and restaurant with nice music. At one time, we had the beach to ourselves. Totally worth the $139.00 rate plus taxes. I would definately go back to this resort.

After being gone 11 days with my daughter I returned home for 2 days and Went to St. Thomas. This hotel actually was great, the closest rooms to the beach on the island.
It is not a 5 star and I am a hotel snob, we were very surprised. No elevators, so we did stairs, it was bearable but the views, pool bar, pool and restaurant were within steps of all rooms. Beach staff were great, snorkeling not bad saw a variety of fish, star fish etc.
I would actually go back tomorrow if I could. Visited St. John the Westin was disappointed, walked for miles all rooms in a garden setting, musty, and triple the price.
Goes to show you can be very suprised and can't judge a hotel by the name.
I did read the bad reviews of Emerald Beach and was worried, felt very safe.

We chose this hotel because it had fairly good reviews on these boards for a one night's stay, and because we had a very early flight out the next morning. While the remainder of our trip was spent in St. John, this hotel did meet our needs and expectations. The drive up appeal is just not there, as it is an older property. However, once inside, the grounds are nicely kept, the service staff is friendly and helpful, and the rooms are nice for the price. There is a flat screen tv, the room we received, and most rooms seem to be, ocean front, and with a beautiful view. The pool has a fantastic waterfall, and the beach bar had good drinks and again a friendly staff. It seemd a little out of the 70's but I still liked it, and was glad we chose this hotel. We made our way to the airport in five minutes flat, and all was well that ended well. Therefore the Emerald Beach is a great short stay choice.

I can't say enough about this establishment. The room was absolutely clean, refreshing and a very comfortable kingsize bed. The private balcony was so romantic as you sit there listening and watching the waves hitting the clean white sand. The staff treated you as if you were the only one staying there paying attention to all the wants and personal needs. The Palms restaurant, that is located on the beach, was absolutely delicious and the staff excellent. It did not matter if you were sitting on the beach, or the pool, or the beach bar, you felt like you were sitting on a secluded island. I had the most romantic, sensual stay at this wonderful establishment that I am so looking forward to returning in the near future. This was heaven on earth. Loved everything and not one negative thought can come to mind. I would hope that everyone who visits this wonderful place will have the same beautiful, peaceful, romantic stay like I did. Thank you for the experience!!!!
