We (a group of 5) spent the day shopping on Back Street and found there to be an abundance of jewelry and watch shops as well as the expected souvenier stores. We shopped at Cardow and Alpha Jewelers and found there salesmen to be low pressure . We felt very safe until we went in search of a restaurant suggested by a local. We walked one block farther up the hill away from the waterfront and quickly found ourselves in 'the bad part of town'. We had a group of 3 men step in front of us and ask where we were going. They were starring at our purses and we quickly kept moving. One of them followed us and was persistent...it was frightening. Ultimately nothing happened, but if you are travelling alone or in a pair, do not stray from the busy shopping area.
