The Morningstar staff is sways very friendly . Our favorite waitress Geneth Harris at Coco Joe's, greats us as old friends. The remodeling was also done very well. As this was our 10th trip to this hotel we can attest to the consistency of the service.

stayed at the frenchmans reef mid February. We went on a family vaction with our 14 year old son and 17 year old daughter. The waves at the beach were amazing..Our son did alot of body surfing. My daughter and I enjoyed reading at the pool adjacent the beach on very comfy padded lounge chairs. All of the staff at the hotel, restaurants were very friendly. Food was very good, well worth the cost.Loved Coco Joes and Sunset Grill. Frozen drinks for the kids as well as adult drinks were delicious. Grabbed salad and sandwiches one night from the little store on site and ate dinner on our balcony overlooking the beach. Took alot of pics of the resident iguanas which were awesome! Be sure to sit and enjoy the balcony at the Rum Bar at least one night. A truly magical view. The only downside of hotel would be all the stairs to and from the beach and limited lounge chairs at the main infinity pools. Would recommend this hotel to families and couples. It is very spread out with lots of area to explore.

Room Tip: sea cliff rooms had a wonderful view of the ocean and people going to and from the beach. You could...

We have stayed many times throughout the years in both the main Frenchman's area and on the beach in the Morning Star area. To be fair, the hotel is quite close to the cruise ports and the airport making quick jaunts to the ships or early flights out of STT very easy- it enjoys faster and less expensive cab fares, which are not insignificant in St. Thomas. The staff are generally very friendly and are fairly expedient in helping you, albeit by island standards only. I get the feeling they are exposed to a lot of rude travelers (northerners by the clipped/demanding accents? -please forgive me if you're a polite 'northerner'? I might be offending) because once you treat them with sincere respect, they seem to appreciate your effort and are willing to exert more effort in return. This is a concept lost on the rude/demanding people. Please excuse the diatribe.
The grounds are for the most part well kept and attractive. The lounge area of Frenchman's overlooking the harbor lights is especially beautiful. The beach (Morning Star) while not breathtaking is safe, clean, not overly crowded and pretty to enjoy.
The restaurant on the beach has an outstanding atmosphere of sophistication that we love, and the food is usually very good. Yes, they might commit a serving faux pas or two and the food wouldn't get one much less three Michelin stars, but overall its a worthwhile ISLAND experience. We keep going back.
There ARE some sketchy areas of the hotel (Frenchman's) like the walkway by the rear parking lot (where the access gates are LOCKED) that make you uncomfortable. The one INCH gap between the door top and the frame is less than desirable especially since its usually HOT outside and quite often your fellow travelers are loudly enjoying themselves in the hallways. Far fewer issues on the beach in Morning Star, but more expensive.
Overall, if its high season and the Ritz rates are ridiculous, then we always stay at the Frenchman's and we enjoy it. Period. Otherwise....

Room Tip: Stay high in the tower preferably facing the harbor OR in the Morning Star side.

My wife and I stayed here to celebrate our wedding anniversary mid Feb...and couldn't have had a nicer time...and a nicer place to stay. The location is fantastic....the staff ...from the housekeepers, maintenance, food servers, store employees...all were extremely friendly and genuinely interested in how we were enjoying our stay. Sarah at the front dest...and Danielle, the customer relations manager, were especially helpful in many ways. As a Marriott Platinum member,I visit many locations every year and would place this one among the very best and wouldn't hesitate to stay here again the next time our travels bring us to the region. I am happy to answer any questions about this location...especially if anyone has concerns about the few negative reviews.....

Stayed here at the end of January, with some trepidation because the reviews seemed all over the map. I understand now. This is a very big property when you include the Morning Star. We stayed in the Oceanview Tower at Frenchman's reef; got a free upgrade to a Harbor View. While an older property, it is still clean, bright, and what would would expect from a Marriott. The poolside is new, wonderful, and great place to relax, read, unwind in the sun. The staff in and around the hotel for the most part was friendly and helpful, almost without fail. We arrived around 3:30, just before check-in, and only had a very short wait before getting our room and heading up. After a dropping our bags and heading out to explore the property, the check-in line had gotten quite long. Other big plusses: the non-Marriott restaurants--CoCo Joes, and in particular Havana Blue, were wonderful. The water taxi to Charlotte Amalie is also a quite a plus. A beautiful, quiet ride to town compared to the always adventurous cab rides.

On the downside, the service in the Marriott restaurants (i.e., not Havana Blue or CoCo Joe's) was consistently poor; the wait staff made you feel like you were imposing on them. At no point, sitting around the pool, did anyone approach us and ask if we wanted a drink; we usually ended up walking up to the bar to get a drink. And, surprisingly, the food was just OK, again not what I expect from a Marriott resort. Finally, there are other parts of the property, like the walk back around the waterfall, the elevator down to the walk back out to Morning Star, and that whole general area of the Frenchman's Reef property showed their age.

I now understand the wide range in reviews you read here. If you're a glass half full type like us, this was a very nice vacation and on an overnight return to St Thomas we'd surely stay here. If you're a glass half empty type, I could read and understand you're reviews as well.

Room Tip: Ocean View tower in Frenchman's Reef is the Main Hotel Tower connected to the pools. Morning St...

Thank you for sharing your positive feedback with the TripAdvisor community. Regarding your dining experiences, we take your suggestions for communication improvement seriously. Although Havana Blue is not operated by Marriott, Coco Joe’s is. We are delighted to hear it was a highlight for you. Thank you also for the general comment that our resort staff was friendly and helpful. We make it our goal to provide the best customer service available and I hope that is what we conveyed in your case. Be sure to call ahead of your next stay, so we can welcome you back as a returning guest!

This was a quick overnight business trip to St Thomas and Marriott's Frenchman's Reef. What a great hotel. I stayed in the main portion of the hotel and a colleague stayed on the beach. His room requires a shuttle to take him down to the beach and is about a ten minute process. The hotel is very beautiful with great views of the bay and the cruise ship arrivals/departures. Plenty of balconies and verandas to sit and enjoy the scenery. They have a specified adventure desk to help you with all of your vacation events. We ate dinner in the Sunset Grill while the house band Flamboyant was playing. They were very good. Alex is an exceptional waitress and her service and recommendations from the menu were excellent. The stay was way too short and we didn't get to enjoy all the Frenchman's Reef has to offer. However, if I was bringing the wife or family down for vacation, this would be very high on my list for consideration!

My wife and I like to travel to a warm destination each February. The "all inclusive" type resorts were alright but they are all filled with heavy drinkers and big eaters. Quantity of food and liquor was the big draw, not quality. We like to relax pool side for most of the day and are offended by the obnoxious folks that these places tend to draw. This year we decided to pay top dollar for a resort that we would have the opportunity to choose restaurants of our choosing and the expectation of having guests more like ourselves. The resort is on a beautiful location and the pool area is beautiful. The rooms were fine and ours had a balcony with an ocean view. The hallways to the rooms were a bit more rundown than I expected. This property has obviously been here for some time. For $500.00 per night I expected a more pristine look to the entire property. Even though this is in a U.S territory, I'm guessing that the entire staff is Jamacain. The entire time at the resort I felt as if I was in a Jamacain resort without the Jamacain price. The service was alright but not $500.00 per night quality. None of the restaurants had food that I would consider good quality. Service was very slow and the food was cool, prepared incorrectly, and was of low quality. I did not get the feeling that service meant much to the employees. They were pleasant enough but lacked any real initiative to provide great service. The many "ok love, honey, darling" comments from the employees did not improve the service. The Blue Havana restaurant located on or near the property was an exception. If this resort had been half of the price we paid my expectations would have not been this high. The best food here were the sandwiches for sale in the market but $9.95 for a ham and cheese sandwich made on bread you have at home with a can of coke for $2 creates an expectation for something that you will not find. Brunch at the Aqua Terra is $24 per person. To be fair, St. Thomas is not cheap but I did find many restaurants, some on other resorts, that had outstanding food for the same or slightly lower price. Keep your expectations at 3 stars.
