Frenchman's Reef & Morning Star Marriott Beach Resort

The hotel needs updating and the staff needs customer service training. Our room was nice, everything was new, but the rest of the resort needs work, rusty stairwells and many areas are in need of painting. The pool area was nice, but the pool staff constantly was dragging chairs around, this did not not make for a very relaxing stay at the pool. Instead we walked down to the beach and grabbed some beach chairs and an umbrella, much more relaxing with the sound of the waves. The restaurant staff was seemed to have the attitude like we were doing them a favor. We only stayed two nights at this hotel, after a week on St. John, quite an awakening after the laid back stay on St. John. I will probably not sty at frenchmen's reef hotel again. I frequent Marriott resorts and hotels and this hotel seems subpar compared to others.

We would like the opportunity for a second chance to win your loyalty at Frenchman’s Reef Resort. Most of our rooms have been updated as part of our renovation, last fall. In advance of your next visit, please don’t hesitate to contact me through the resort so that I can have our leadership team assist in managing your reservations and room selections. Thank you again for bringing these suggestions to our attention and we hope you will give us another chance!

We have traveled to Caribbean islands 15ish times. This resort had the poorest service we have ever seen . View and beach are beautiful, town is dead if cruise ships are not there. Hard to find a restaurant to eat at after 3 pm . No food at times we needed at hotel , no bell hop or service except at Adventure Center. Rooms were dirty, couldn't open patio door to enjoy beachfront patio we paid extra for.

Our concierge was excellent--most helpful with all information about the property, shopping, transportation, restaurants, activities, etc.

The staff is super-friendly, but do keep in mind they are on "island time." I found everyone to be fun and helpful.

The resort was fabulous!! We chose the all-inclusive route, and I think we would have probably come out even had we not, but it was nice not to have to keep up with our tab. All food and drinks were 5 star quality. Everything was delicious. The resort has much to offer, and Charlotte Amalie is close by. I would highly recommend the water taxi for travel there. It's a nice change of pace from auto travel and the ride is scenic. The only negative I would mention, if any, is that even though the resort recently underwent a multi-million dollar renovation, I think the guest rooms could have been a little cleaner. But, I am a germophobe, so my expectations are very high ! The view from our water-view room was spectacular !! The beds were very comfortable. I would also suggest they add a mirror in the bedroom since bathroom quarters are somewhat tight. I cannot comment on the spa since we did not use it.

I would definitely return. I had stayed at Sugar-Bay many years ago, which was great, but I think the Frenchman is much better and worth the difference in price.

Room Tip: Definitely upgrade to a water view room.

Beautiful location and wonderful staff. The beach is like a dream. Everything is included except for the food and spa. Towels, snorkel, kayaks, etc are all provided. The food is about double what should be. The staff is very kind, friendly, and helpful. Clint Z at the concierge desk was especially helpful. The Marriott should give him a raise.

It took about 30 minutes to get checked in at the hotel when I arrived Marriott Frenchman's Reef & Morning Star hotel because there was only 1 person at the concierge to check in about 12 people. This process was painfully slow. But after I was assigned a room on the 6th floor, the room was a pleasant surprise. It was beautiful, well laid out and clean. You are provided 2 water bottles each day plus free wi-fi during your stay at the hotel.

However, while there all I saw where swimming pools overlooking the ocean, I did not sea any beach, I guess the beach is located somewhere, but there are abundance of swimming pools at the hotel.

This is a nice hotel to stay if all you want to do is relax and play around the pool; go to the dock and take a short trip by Ferry or taxi to town for sight seeing to eat and return. But there are nothing to see in St Thomas, and nothing to do. The restaurants are over priced American low to mid scale restaurants. There were no authentic Caribbean restaurants in the Island. Yes, the hotel may refer you to a Victor or a Mims restaurants as authentic, they a'int; they are both regular restaurants, with Mims a little bit higher scale, but no big deal.

Yes, Charlotte Amalie is what you may call a suburb of St Thomas, US Virgin Islands. However, be ready for price shock when you plan on doing anything outside the hotel. if you are a solo traveler, be ready to pay 12 to 13 dollars each way[approx. $25], to go sight seeing, going to eat or go have a drink. Thus, if you are planning on going out to eat, add $25 to the $30 to $50 you will spend on dinner per person.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with the patio facing the Atlantic Ocean

Thank you for your review. Although you experienced a check-in delay, we are pleased you found your room welcoming and clean. The building you stayed in (Frenchman’s Reef) sits on a hillside overlooking the other part of the resort called Morning Star Beach Resort which lies at the bottom of the hill on our beach. We offer a complimentary shuttle between Frenchman’s Reef and Morning Star every 15 minutes and there is also a stairway path between the two. We sincerely hope you plan to return and if so, please contact our pre-arrival team so that we can personally give you a layout of our property as well as our best off-property dining suggestions. I am happy to hear you enjoyed our infinity pools and sight-seeing in Charlotte Amalie by ferry. Thank you again for your generous satisfaction ratings.

just came back from frenchmans reef and morning star beach resort...what a nice resort...the people were so friendly and helpful...the rooms were spotless, cleaned every day.....the beach was not to my liking, with few resort style amenities(umbrellas and chairs not set up etc..)the people of the resort was what made it so nice...the pool area is beautiful except for the iguana's roaming around the pool...i don't care for them...i know they won't hurt you but i don't like them...but the pool areas are clean and well maintained....everything about the resort was 4 or 5 stars..every day or so they put out rum punches and cheese and crackers and the view is exceptional. a trip to megan's bay was great and would recommend taking a trip there. all in all we had a great time

Sounds like your vacation to our resort was all you desired! We appreciate your mention of the warmth of our staff and comfort of the infinity pool area. Also, we work to control the iguana population and I appreciate you mentioning that so I can follow up with our property maintenance team. Thank you for taking the time to share your post with the Tripadvisor community!

This beautiful resort is very clean and has welcoming staff. They have a nice beach if you don't want to travel to Megan's Bay (which I would encourage because it is beautiful there). They also have a really nice buffet down on the beachfront which is scrumptious! The views from our balcony and the cocktail terrace are just gorgeous. Nice pool and good breakfast buffet. Loved the little cocktail lounge. Would definitely go back there and stay.
