“St. Thomas”

The beaches are very nice, but the island doesn't have very many attractions to view. One thing I particularly liked was Coki Beach, the water was crystal clear, perfect for diving.

“Budget Car Rental”
Reviewed November 19, 2010

Do not rent from Budget. We just recently did and they did not have any record of our rental. Reservations just don't matter and they told us that they had no cars on the island. There was nothing that they could do. In order for us to rectify the matter, we were told that we need to work with customer service. No one at the Budget desk would assist. They are totally unreliable and helpless.

“Best Honeymoon Spot!!”
Reviewed November 19, 2010

My husband and I went to St. Thomas for our Honeymoon and it was perfect. It has beautiful beaches and great resorts. If you don't have a passport and you are looking for a romantic getaway, this is the place to go. One thing to know is that you have to take taxi's everywhere unless you are comfortable driving on the other side of the road. Taxi's are very inexpensive. Have fun!

“Don't waste much time or money”
Reviewed November 15, 2010

We had no choice but to stop here as part of a cruise itenierary and had high hopes. Word to the wise: do not waste your time on the "Island Tours" of St Thomas. They pack buses in and herd people in tiny buildings like cattle at tourist traps like "Beacon Point" and the "Great House". The only good thing about these two places is that you have a nice view, although you have all of 10 minutes to spend there. People who had cruised many times before also expressed that this was the worst they had ever encountered. 8, 10, 15 buses packed in a traffic cluster of madness in these places. If you want to go to these places for the view, don't go when cruise ships are in port. Go to St Maarten instead.

“Sapphire Beach, St Thomas”
Reviewed October 30, 2010

Our family of 5 just returned from a weeks vacation on Sapphire Beach, and it was fantastic! We went with other family as well - so the age of the kids ranged from 5 to 13 - and every one of them had an absolute blast!

We could snorkel RIGHT OFF THE BEACH, which the kids all really enjoyed. We saw a lot of colorful fish, sting rays, small squid and sea turtles (even a baby riding on it's parents back)!

We stayed at Paradise on the Beach. The owner, Jeff, was absolutely fantastic as well. Very responsive, always available to answer any of your questions....and has completely updated and renovated condos...right on the white sandy beach. It worked out great for us because he has 2 condo's that are right next to each other (and can join together outside on the terrace) - so my sister's family and our family were right next to each other. The outside of the condo's looks a little unkempt, but the locals say it's owned by 2 brothers who aren't getting along right now - so they must have put the place on 'hold' for any exterior updates. But here's the deal.... the beach is great, the multi level pool was in really good condition, there are chairs, water sports, etc. all available and it good condition. To stay on the best beach (from what I read ahead of time) on St. Thomas- staying at these updated condo's was a no-brainer.

When the cruise ships come in - there are some people who take their excursion to Sapphire Beach - so know it will get a little more crowded btwn like 10 and 2:30 (when they have to leave to go back to the boat). They all pretty much stay down by the rental desk though. With the shade trees lining the upper part of the beach - we chose to grab that area as 'home base' but could easily move the chairs and swim in the sun just below the shady area.

There is a food 'hut' between building B and C (building C is where we stayed). They had hamburgers, hot dogs, beer, etc. - so you can grab a bit to eat there if you like. When we went, a burger was $11 (and it wasn't really all that great). My advice would be to shop at Food Center - which is about 3 miles from the beach. After you pay $11 for a not so great burger, you won't mind paying the prices at the grocery store (which may initially shock you a bit as well). The reality is, it's an island, and a beautiful one at that, but prices are much higher. If you expect it ahead of time - which we did - it isn't so bad. We ended up having breakfast and lunch (for the most part) at our condo and then would head to Red Hook for dinner.

Red Hook has a lot of good places to choose from. Duffy's Love Shack (which is actually in a parking lot), was pretty fun. The food was good and the atmosphere was a lot of fun. Good music, etc. The very best food (and happened to be pretty reasonable prices) were Molly Malone's and the Mexican place upstairs from it. The best burgers were definitely at the Big Bambooze (which was priced pretty well)!

If you have read anyplace to bring bug spray....please do. There are some very small mosquitoes (as they will call them) - or noseeum's (because you can't see them) - and if it's after 4pm - they seem to like legs. We had read about it before we left, brought some "Off" and it worked pretty well.
