We enjoyed a terrific full day of sailing on Slo Dancin with Captain Kim and her very experienced mate, Josh. The sail began at Red Hook, a picturesque harbor on the east end of St Thomas that would be well worth visiting even if you were not planning to sail. Captain Kim met us at the dock and motored us out by dinghy to the boat’s mooring. We were under way in a few minutes, heading toward St John. One of the great things about the day was that we had complete freedom to choose how much time we spent sailing or snorkeling, whether and when we made stops and even which course we followed. Captain Kim and Josh suggested options and we were able to decide what appealed to us. For most of the day, we decided to take advantage of the very good sailing conditions, making the crossing from St Thomas to St John and then proceeding along the North shore of the island to see the beautiful bays and beaches of the Virgin Islands National Park. We returned downwind, and Captain Kim served a chicken salad lunch as we sailed toward a small island south of St Thomas for afternoon snorkeling. Captain Kim provided masks, fins and snorkels and Josh acted as our guide in the water, showing us the best spots to see exotic reef fish and three large stingrays and using specially prepared food in plastic bags to attract fish that we could then feed by hand. We returned to Red Hook around 5 pm.
If you want a very personal sailing and snorkeling experience in the Virgin Islands with a wonderful Captain and mate, you should consider Slo Dancin.
