“Pineapple Villas-"A Terrible Experience"”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 3, 2007

We had hoped to have a beautiful spring break vacation at the Pineapple Villas in St. Thomas but unfortunately that was not the case. We checked the property's website and there it described the Villas as first class accomodations situated right on the beach. It showed detailed color photos of the property and the beach. Unfortunately it appears that the photos and the description of the Villas was fairly old because what the website failed to mention is that the Villas and their facilities are part of an abandoned hotel complex . The facilites of the Villas are shared with the hotel which you must pass through and by to access the Villas. The hotel itself is covered with mold and is rotting away. Not a pretty sight from your Villa. The Villas are right on the beach. However, the beach is filthy and covered with debris including trash, used drug paraphenelia and overgrown vegetation. The access to the dock on the beach is blocked off because the dock is rotting and unsafe. The pool for the complex looks like it has not been cleaned in months. The Villas complex has many many units but most of them were unoccupied which made the Complex very errie at night. In fact, one evening we we accosted by a group of young men who eventually left. We were all alone and very frightened. The complex is supposed to have controlled security access according to the owners but what it actually has is a gate manned by a "security guard" who either lets everyone in during the day or, at night ,is either not there or asleep, and therefore leaves the gate up so that anyone can gain access. Not very comforting. We tried to tolerate our Villa and stay for the full 8 days (because we were required to pay in full in advance) by leaving it first thing each morning but on the fifth night we observed rats trying to get in through the windows and then on the morning of the sixth day we awoke to find the kitchen being over run by huge brown cockroaches. That was the final straw. We packed up and left. We would not recommend staying at the Villas until the hotel is rebuilt and the place cleaned up.
