Happened to find Trenchtown Rock while wandering around St Thomas and starving. We were late for an excursion so we got our food to go. The guy was friendly and fast! All food comes with 3 sides. I got the Oxtail with rice, plaintains, and macaroni and cheese. My husband got some amazing Jerk chicken and the same sides. The food was well prepared, well seasoned, and tasted great. Huge portions! Clean restaurant with a fun atmosphere.

Our first trip to the island and Trenchtown was recommended by our cab driver! He hadn't steered us wrong yet! The food was excellent and he staff was vey helpful! You have to try it! We just got back and are already planning another trip. Trenchtown will be one of our stops!

We felt like we were in a Saturday Night Live skit...

We had a group of 11 and went when Trenchtown Rock was otherwise empty (at about 2:00 on a Thursday when the day the AC was out). It took a couple of tries for two different waitstaff to take our order and over 20 minutes for our drinks to arrive. On that note, I requested a soda on more than three separate occassions and it literally took over 60 minutes for the soda to arrive (still arrived before the food--see below).

About 30 minutes after finally taking our order, the waitress came back and said that four of our jerk chicken orders could not be prepared due to a food shorage. We politely reordered and remained civil throughout. After another 30 minutes or so, the waitress came out and informed us that two of the reorders could not be processed, We literally were laughing at how poor the service was and that we did not even receive a simple "I am sorry." Definitely would not go back and advise that anyone entering this establishment be aggressive in their ordering and inquirin upfront whether all of the items are readily available.

Although we kept waiting for someone to come up and tell us we were on Candid Cameria or being punked, this was very sadly not a joke. Notwithstanding the high ratings that Trenchtown Rock received from one of our local friends, the Tripadvisor website and another rating service, Trenchtown definitely did not rock. If you are looking for good Jamaican food in the Virgin Islands, it might be quicker to charter a boat and head to Jamaica.

You can find a number of upscale places to eat in Charlotte Amalie but most offer European/American cuisine. We asked at the Greenhouse what typical Caribbean choices they had on their menu. Our waiter kindly said they had none and we should go to Trenchtown two blocks away on Back Street. Good call. Jerk chicken was good.
