“Best beach bar on St. Thomas”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 7, 2010

A group of friends landed at the BlueBeard Beach Resort Lime Tree Pool Bar and beach and had a fabulous time. The bartender, John, made the best drinks; Sonic Tonics, Bushwackers, cold beers and great conversations. John claims he made the Sonic Tonic drink up himself and our group agrees it was one of the best drinks ever. Trust me, our group has enough drinking experience to be excellent critics. Thanks for an awesome afternoon John!

Bluebeard Beach Club is like being on an island. You better bring all you need and have a vehicle-- a small SUV preferrably. This is the most disappointing Wyhdham resort I have been to--I am an owner and if I had brought guests with me on this trip I would have been embarrased. The view and beach at this resort are without a double its most appealing features. There is a small beach bar that has minimal food. The pool is closed nothing else in the resort is open. If you a desire a very private place with no ammenities this one is for you. The units are clean and comfortabel but they have neglected to list that you will be charged a $22. a day energy fee. The green and spacious grounds and in need of upkeep. The beach is narrow and chairs and hammocks are available under the trees. Repairs are being made to the buildings but it will be a while before it is anywhere near the standard expected of a Wyndham property. The resort staff are as helpful as they can be with what they have to work with. I called ahead to see if my Sprint would work there and was told yes--it did not nor did others with Verison. The Internet was not available except for in the lobby--one computer....... As I said like an island with a 15-20 min tortous drive to get to anything else.

Nice rooms and a great pool and beach. Very friendly staff. Would recommend to everyone. It is out of the way, so to see all that St. Thomas has to offer, you really need to rent a car. Don' t be afraid to drive on the left, it's not hard.

For anyone planning to come to this resort in the next month or two be advised that they closed the pool indefinitely. There does appear to be quite a few structural things that can use repair. In speaking with people that work on the resort the pool is safe and clean. They blame the resort owners board of directors for horrible management of the property. The pool has been closed with no adequate reason given and no bids accepted to even begin work on it. Open the pool back up to your paying guests and owners until the work can be performed in a more timely manner. Board of directors ... Get your act together!

This resort, owned by Wyndham, has lots of potential. There are a few things we would change about the condo units....#1 the kitchen is tiny (no oven) and there is no "dining" table/chairs in the unit...you have to sit outside on the balcony. We loved the balcony but you can't really sit out in the early morning or after sunset due to the "no see um" bugs. The units mostly face the south so it gets hot out on the balcony during the day. We loved the beach and how secluded you feel during the day....away from the crowds of town. You can occasionally see a cruise ship at a distance coming into Charlotte Amalie......nice.

A sign at the entrance gate states ‘You survived the road’ ‘The fun begins now’. The road from Hwy 30 is steep, narrow and bumpy but not a serious safety concern.
If you want to get away from the crowds, this is the place. However, dining is a challenge. The restaurant is not open. You have to sign-up, at the front desk, the day before. Food is catered as theme basis. i.e. BBQ day, Italian day, etc. etc. I was there Sep 12-15. No food catered onTuesdays or Wednesdays. Kitchens are available in the units for preparing your own meals. Closest restaurant is in Havensight, less than 2 miles away.
Beach is not long but sandy and calm. Pool and a nice exercise room on the property. Free wifi in main office.

Bluebeard's Beach Resort is a diamond in the rough that Wyndham is not polishing. We really enjoyed our stay here, but were disappointed to see that Wyndham offers limited (any not really any) amenities compared to its other resorts. The points cost to stay at this resort is high, and If I owned at this resort I would be furious at the lack of attention Wyndham gives to this resort. That being said, we did have a fabulous time and will return..

Pros:
1) Very obvious that staff worked hard to make our stay enjoyable. I bedroom condo was very clean (although obviously outdated), with no bugs (even at night), no mould in the washrooms, and a new comfortable mattress on the bed.
2) grounds, for the most part, are well kept and very beautiful. Beach was very relaxing with plenty of loungers
3) One computer with internet access in the lobby
4) great drinks at the pool bar. Bo and Stephanie were very friendly and helpful (but do not work for Wyndham-see the con list)
5) Taxi service readily available (but expensive)
6) Isolated location, with a great private beach but only about 8 minutes from Charlotte Amalie, and 20 minutes from Red Hook
7) Wyndham staff very helpful and knowledgeable in setting up excursions
8) Great natural wildlife-iguanas everywhere. They don't really bother you, although I think one took a shining to me and seemed to follow me everywhere
9) Cat cafe-cat refuge on the resort. You see the cats, but again, they don't bother you
10) Internet available no charge in the lobby. I couldn’t get a wi-fi signal

Cons:
1) Condos are old and worn out. Although it was obvious that Wyndham staff worked hard to make them comfortable, it is time for Wyndham to update the kitchens, and livingroom furniture. Air conditioners are old window units. They are quite loud, however was great for me in drowning our my husband's snoring
2) Limited activates. Tennis court was overgrown. You could rent kayaks and snorkel equipment (a freebie at a Wyndham resort I own at), but they were not well cared for.
3) The pool bar is not managed by Wyndham. Independents run the bar. Bo and Stephanie are great and I hope Wyndham allows them to continue this.
4) No store on site. Again, Bo is taking this over and hopefully this will be opened soon for the convenience of guests as there is no other store/grocery nearby (you have to go into Charlotte Amalie)
5) There is no restaurant. The pool bar offers sandwiches during the day, and at night (after 6pm when the pool bar is closed) they offer a buffet 4 nights a week for $20. The food is fabulous. Bo's sister (who owns a restaurant at Bluebeard's Castle) cooks up the buffet. They do a great job and I hope they continue with this. Perhaps Wyndham could give them use of the restaurant area (the least Wyndham could do)
6) No shuttle service at all. Taxis are readily available, but do get expensive after a while. We rented a car and found this to be a little cheaper (not to mention convenient), but don't forget to drive on the left side
7) After the pool bar closes, there is no activity on the resort AT ALL. If you are here for the quiet, then this is the place to be
8) Oh yes. They also allow locals in to use the pool and beach. Wouldn't be a problem, except I paid good money (points) to stay, and security allows them in for no charge. When we were there, they monopolized the pool bar, were loud, offensive, extremely inappropriate language. Many guests were older, and this infringed on their good time as they were unable to access the bar, and even felt they needed to stay away from that area of the pool. Should this practice continue, they should charge a fee for entrance to use the pool, beach and chairs.

Overall we had a great time, and do plan on returning. We hope Wyndham gives this resort (and the staff) the respect they deserve and puts more resources into the property to bring it up to the standard it should be at.
