We spent a week on St Thomas and headed over to Water Island for the day. The ferry ride over is 10 dollars round trip with Captain Joe. When you arrive on Water Island, you walk up the hill and take your second right to Honeymoon Beach. We went on a Wednesday and had the beach to ourselves for three hours. A woman was cooking BBQ for a cruise ship excursion that arrived around 1:30--the food smelled delicious. We soaked up the sun to a terrific view. There is a floating dock you can swim to and chill out on. Joe's Beach Bar is located to the far left. What a great way to kick back, chat it up and drink up with a few locals. This is a great place for a quiet day free from crowds (50 people max when we were there). This is a must do for any honeymooner wanting a day away with beach and sun.

I traveled to Water Island with my family of five (kids 8,12,15) for a week in mid july last summer, we had such a great time!

We stayed in a condo we found on VRBO that had a pool and great views. The condo also provided a golf cart, which was great to get around becuase we didn't rent a car, plus there were more golf carts than cars on the Island.

We were able to get on the golf cart and drive five minutes to Honeymoon Beach, which was absoulutley beautiful. It was never to crowed and had just a few people everyday except for one day when a small charter boat brought in some people for a few hours in the afternoon. The beach was always clean and the water was beautiful and warm. On the beach was also a little place called Heidi's they had the best hamburgers and a bunch of other lunch foods. She also does a Sat. night dinner and a Monday movie night, we didn't go to either but they both sounded good. There was also a pizza boat that came in that had great fresh pizza.

I was a little worried that my teens would find this trip boring, but that was not at all the case. My 15 year old son and my husband enjoy fishing and were able to fish right of the island! We also brought our snorkeling gear along and had fun snorkeling right of the beach. It was also relaxing to just sit on the beach and swim in the beautiful water. When we didn't want to be at the beach we could go back to the condo and swim in the pool they had there. Plus, two out of the seven days we went to St. Thomas. One day we rented a boat for the entire day, which I think coast about $400+fuel, and was well worth it. They provided a tube to go tubing and we could fish off of the boat. There was not much nightlife, but we did eat in St. Thomas one night, which was good. My kids are begging me to go back!

Also, Ioved how easy it was to get on the island. We had a direct flight from ME right into St. Thomas, we went grocery shopping right when we got there. The food was a little bit more expensive than home, but not too much. From there, we took a taxi to the ferry and took a ferry to Water Island.

My whole family loved this trip and would with out a doubt go back anythime!

We took the ferry over to Water Island to hike to the Fort. This island is so quaint and unpopulated. It looks like there is one restaurant on the entire island. Honeymoon Beach looked nice. The hike to the fort was neat as well.

This hilly, tranquil island - population 150 or so, offers the anti-tourist experience.
If you're looking for a myriad of sweaty tourists, beach hawkers and expensive bars, then Megan's Bay is the place for you.

Available via ferry, Water Island offers Honeymoon Beach, a lovely crescent about a 10-minute stroll from the dock.
As we made our way to the beach, a kindly island local (Alex) chatted with us, making us feel most welcome.

Once there, the beach was clean.
Food choices were Heidi's Honeymoon Cafe, and a pull-up pizza boat (with freshly-made pies), plus a shack for brews and cocktails.

We met other locals, swam in the gentle surf (the beach faces St. Thomas so waves are low), and enjoyed a lazy day.

As we made our way back to the 3pm ferry, we met a kind woman (Te-wu) and her companion, Bill, who operate a B&B on the island.
Bill invited us to board his golf cart for a trek back (carts are the prefered method of transport here - very few autos). He showed us Te-Wu's lovely hillside B&B and then took us to the dock.

We will gladly return to this unspoiled piece of paradise right next to St. Thomas.

Tell everyone, or better yet, keep this gem to yourself and go!
