We did an ATV excursion with Gecko's, which ends at Rainbow Beach. We stayed on at Rhythms for several hours, enjoying the live music, the rum punch, swimming, the beach. We changed our clothes from our ATV riding gear into our bathing suits in the bathroom at Rhythms, then rented two beach chairs and an umbrella from the two guys under the tent that rent them - they dug a hole in the sand for us, got the umbrella situated perfectly. We then got 2 rum punches and settled in for a lovely afternoon of swimming and 'hanging out'. Our cruise ship was in port, the Celebrity Summit, which we could see from the beach - we got many great photos with our waterproof camera from the water. There were some fantastic waves that day, as Hurricane Sandy was churning, very far north, but we did get some fun wake for wave riding. I was very disturbed to read the review that locals were lurking about to steal from the tourists, though we did not notice that during our visit, though they might have been there but we had taken precautions so we were not concerned. We knew ahead of time, that no matter where you go, it is NEVER a good idea to leave valuables untended on a beach, so to that end, we purchased on Amazon, a largish waterproof bag - it worked perfectly - maybe we looked on the dorky side swimming with an 8x10 waterproof strap bag, but the last laugh is on those who get their valuables stolen from the beach - unfortunate, but a sad fact of life that we must as tourists, guard against. Our money, our cell phones, our identification, were all safe and dry in our bag, as we swam for well over an hour without a single care. Some beaches have lockers for valuables, but most do not.
