Owner description: Estate Whim has long been known for its colonial-era Great House, slave quarters, and mill factory complex; but much more can be found on the museum’s twelve acres. Various museum exhibits include My Granny House, the Living Museum, and rotating exhibits in the North and South Exhibit Halls. Also located on the museum’s grounds is the Research Library & Archives, where visitors can conduct genealogical and historical research and purchase photographs from our unique photograph collection.

We had such a great experience at the lawaetz museum that we were so excited to visit the whim. The place is nice and well preserved. The view magnificent but was so disappointed of the lady that was supposed to give us a tour. She didnt give us the history of the place or the family that owned it. We asked questions when we did our own tour she would just give us abrupt answer. She was busy talking on her cell phone. Probably it was an off day or she was. So relaxed because there were no other people there but we paid the admission so regardless that it was only us we deserve some information. I recommend that they hire staff the knows the history of the place and willing to entertain and inform the paying public

The tour guides are fabulous. The furniture is authentic. Sometimes there is someone making johnny cakes (yummy) in the cookhouse on the grounds. Nice gift shop.

We visited the Whim Estate upon recommendation of a Crucian friend. We found it eye opening to see island history up close through the buildings and land of a Danish sugar plantation. The guided tour was not very long and only included the main living quarters of the land owner but was well done and informative. The cookhouse is still in working condition and you can purchase pates (empanadas) and juices there. The historical descriptions were very helpful in getting a sense of what St Croix was like during slavery and ended up being connected to other parts of our island tour. I would recommend a short visit to Whim Estate.

The Whim Plantation has wonderful candlelight concerts with a totally mixed bag of entertainers. Check the local Avis for their schedule. There are also antiques, etc. for sale.
