“Great Setting, but service depends on the day”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 25, 2013

The Beach Side Cafe has a fantastic setting, especially at sunset! Often times there is a large Sand Castle built right off the deck by the ocean. Saturday nights there is a live band. The band I have heard most often is "Jazmine" (spelling?) and they are wonderful. The restaurant will accommodate request to have a small table setup on the beach and that can be quite romantic. So for ambiance and setting Beach Side Cafe is tough to beat.

The food and value can be very good, other times it is good but not great. I have eaten here often and it is one of my preferred places to eat on the west side of the island.

Service: Even though I have eaten here many times I have not left a review, I think it is because I am finally annoyed enough with some of the servers that I have decided to leave a review. I figure maybe if customers start to say something then changes will be made for the better. Two servers are always outstanding - Bruno and Scott. Bruno will sing happy birthday to the guest and is the one that builds the Sand Castles, Scott is usually bartender. Both of these individuals are friendly and appear to try to give the guest a good experience. Most of the other servers lack professionalism or at least struggle with being polite. These are the ones I have experience with and have observed several times - Liz and Rita they can be flat out rude at times, other times they seem pleasant enough it really depends on the day or if it is a regular that they are friendly with. If it is your first time to the restaurant or they are not familiar with you, its 50/50 what your experience will be. They have both been negative often enough that I specifically avoid them as my servers just so I don't have to take the gamble. Natalie may just be inexperienced but if the owners aren't around don't hold your breath on getting timely service. She is not necessarily rude but customer service is not her hallmark.

So to sum it up - I rate it as very good because it can be a great experience its just not consistent. Fantastic ambiance with the scenery and the live band, if you get the right server and the chief is on his game then your experience will be A+. If the chief is not inspired and you end up with servers that "island quality" customer service then you could be disappointed. I do recommend this establishment and will be returning, because the good outweighs the bad, and to their credit, the owners will correct issues if you bring them up.

“Not the best for your money”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 25, 2013 via mobile

Expect to pay around 25 dollars for a dinner entree. The food was not that good for the price. Food is a bit high there, but everyone brags about this restuarant. The Sunday brunch was ok. We ate here several times (due to convience to our hotel). The food was not all that bad but not worth the price.

Service was great and the views are breathtaking. The webcam on the site for Sand Castle on the Beach is placed right above this cafe.

The food is always GREAT. Usually have the fresh fish of the day but have never had a bad meal. Ask for Rita or Liz they are great servers.

“Food is great here.”

We try to eat here every time we go to St. Croix. It is very close to our condo so it is super convenient. Very good entrees with nice Caribbean presentation.
