Arawak Bay: the Inn at Salt River
Ranked #1 of 13 Christiansted B&B and Inns
Certificate of Excellence

Thinking of having a really, wonderful place to stay in St. Croix and enjoy the views of beautiful aquamarine waters in a peaceful tropical paradise, the place is Arawak Bay: the Inn at Salt River. It is a great place to stay I enjoyed my stay there immensely. It is definitely not your typical B&B but you still have the coziness of an inviting home. The lovely plantation verandah gives you that relaxed feeling. Lionel and Jennifer are the perfect hosts and they do see to your every need.

This was my 2nd time staying at the Arawak Bay, and it only reaffirmed my opinion from the first trip that this is the best place to stay in St. Croix. Jennifer and Lionel are awesome (and Jennifer makes a great breakfast, by the way!) The rooms are great. The view of the Salt River Bay is incredible. The location is quiet, but close enough to Christiansted and Cane Bay to be convenient. It's just a great place to stay. Plus, the other employees besides Jennifer and Lionel are great, too. A lady working behind the counter, for instance, helped me out with a car problem I was having on my last day by making calls for me, etc. She really went above and beyond, because the people at this hotel really do care.'

The only con I can think of is that it's very difficult to get a cell phone signal on this part of the island, whch can be tough when you're there on business like me. But the room phones are free of charge...and if you're not traveling on business, do you really want people bothering you on your cell anyway? :)

I love this hotel, and will keep coming back as long as I am on-island.

We were advised to check out this inn by another place that was fully booked. This turned out to be our lucky day and the beginning of a wonderful week!
The inn is located on the north side of the island - a beautifully green and hilly countryside, away from crowds. The beach (the same where Columbus landed) is 15 minutes and the Salt River Bay with dive shops and canoe rental 10 minutes walk away. A car is needed for getting around the rest of the island.
All the rooms are spacious and spotless, with an ocean view and all the necessary amenities. Air conditioning can be a bit noisy, but there's almost no need for it if you cool down the room before going to bed.
Jennifer and Lionel really know how to make their guests feel like home! All those little extras one wouldn't expect - a telescope on the balcony that was great for watching the stars and cruise ships passing by, your choice of freshly made food for breakfast, chairs for the outdoor concert etc. It gives you a flavor of real care.
As we had forgotten some of our things in the room and already left for Puerto Rico they were sent to us by mail immediately. Jennifer actually waited in the airport while she was sick, just to find someone flying to Puerto Rico in order to get the package delivered even quicker than by mail!
If you like exercise you can join Jennifer for the morning hike around the hills. As we heard from a friend it's quite challenging to keep up with her. You'd also have to wake up very early, we didn't make it. :-)

The location of Arawak Bay was perfect for me, as I was in St. Croix for a wedding that took place just a couple minutes up the road. However, it is about a 15 minute drive to downtown Christiansted.

The service is excellent! If I understood correctly from my friends who were getting married (and frequent the island), Arawak was designed and built by the owner who is a retired architect. His wife and co-owner is a retired chef, I believe, and cooks an excellent breakfast each morning that usually includes a local dish for you to try.

The dining room has a small fridge stocked with soda and water priced very reasonably (honor system with a bowl on top of the fridge). Additionally, there is a small bar area outside next to the pool with beer, wine and champagne for purchase (again honor system). These features made our stay very convenient.

Our room was on the upper floor (two story building) which offered an excellent view of the ocean and the balcony was the perfect place to drink our morning coffee.

Overall this was a great place to stay and I would recommend it to anyone who is looking for excellent, family style, service at a great price!

My wife was hospitalized on St. Croix after a heart attack. On discharge the hospital recommended Arawak Bay whilst awaiting repatriation to the UK. Could not have been better. The owners, Jennifer and Lionel, treated us as one of the family. Although evening meals are not supplied, they arranged take outs or meals from their own kitchen as my wife was not completely mobile.
This place is a little gem, if you are looking for a home from home, this place is for you.

We look for alternate properties on the wonderful island of St. Croix, which we've visited several times in the past year, and were delighted to learn about Arawak Bay. We had driven by the property when it first opened and were curious about it. The location is terrific on the north shore, and steps from our preferred dive shop on the island - the dive shop and Arawak Bay Inn have a relationship, by the way, enabling visitors to book everything (diving, accommodations) through the dive shop, resulting in a slight discount on the accommodations. Four of us were spending a week over the holidays diving, so the proximity of Arawak Bay to the dive shop, and then a short drive into town for dinner, made for a good choice for us. Because we wanted to do morning dives each morning, Lionel even woke up earlier than the advertised breakfast time to ensure we had our wonderful, full breakfasts before heading out to dive, even asking our preferences in choices to eat. On New Year's Eve, they held a party (having many relatives in town) and invited guests from the inn to join the party. Finally, the rooms are kept very clean and we were never lacking for an abundance of clean towels. We were overwhelmed by the hospitality shown to us by Jenifer and Lionel - never have we met more gracious, or interesting inn owners. This is probably the best deal on the island; surely the most enjoyable and hospitable.

I've stayed at many hotels in the USA and abroad, and the Arawak Bay Inn is by far the best! Besides the fact that it's clean, neat, large rooms, great food, and has Internet access. The number one stand out feature is the friendliness and hospitality of Jennifer and Lionel, the proprietors of Arawak Bay Inn. Never before have I received so much service and attention, regardless of the price. If you're going to St Croix, there is only one place to stay, the Arawak Bay Inn at Salt River.
