We were met at the airport by Maria and Connor (I think that was his name). She was wonderful...he, not so much. He had quite an attitude, refused to make small talk, and didn't attempt to help with luggage or anything until my husband requested that he take my case from me, and then you could tell he was very unhappy about doing it. Once we arrived at the house, he left Maria and my husband to deal with the luggage, and he escaped carrying only a very small case and disappeared into the house. He clearly does not want to be there and is a real detriment to the checking in process. He does not make a good first impression upon island arrival.
This house has a lovely private beach, with a nice sitting area and space down on the beach as well. The waters were warm and wonderful, however, this particular area is very full of seaweed. You had to hike down the beach a bit to find an area worthy of snorkeling or swimming, but not too far. The beach was very quiet, we saw only a few people all week, up the shore near the casino. We really enjoyed sitting down there on the provided chairs and listening to the waves.
The pool was pretty on first sight, but falling into disrepair. It definitely needs some maintenance, as does the tile surrounding the pool, there are some cracks in the tile. Some of the lights around the pool are out and could stand to be replaced as well.
Upon checking in, we were told the pool didn't need to be heated and it would be warm enough to swim in. We will not be taken in by this one again! We have previously stayed in St Croix and the pool was heated and we find it to be a definite must! Perhaps it was because they had just opened the pool on the morning of our arrival (or so we were told), and it just didn't have enough time to warm up, but we never found the pool temperature comfortable. Night swimming was out of the question, and even swimming in the day time was only "refreshing" once or twice. We were very disappointed by not being able to use the pool. We bought some inflatable rafts and left them there, so hopefully someone else will get to enjoy them.
The home was spacious, again in need of some upkeep. Window trims were rusty, the home smelled musty, we were unable to use the dressers due to the smell coming from them. The kitchen could use some new pots and pans, but other than that, we found it to have everything we might have wanted. One piece of advice, the place is crawling with little bugs, they call them no see 'ums. Make sure to clip or bag all food, otherwise it will be lost to these little guys! We brought home a pizza and the entire thing had to be tossed in the trash due to these little bugs. We had to leave our toothbrushes in plastic bags or they'd be covered in the AM. Probably an island thing, not specific to the house, but just a tip to future travelers.
There is no alarm clock in this home, at least not that we could find. I understand their concept of island time and relaxing, but what about flights home? Early charters or tours? We luckily had brought a computer with us and were able to buy an alarm clock app, but it could have been a nasty situation, as we didn't realize we didn't have the clock until after midnight one night, and we needed it the following AM.
The Wifi in the house is very sketchy. We had a heck of a time getting hooked to it and even after we did, it would go in and out quite frequently. There is no TV in the bedrooms, in fact, there is only one in the entire home, in the living room. I need TV to sleep, so we'd hook to Netflix on the computer at night, and it was tough to do. Also, cell service is about non-existent. Perhaps some like that, but as our 2 children were home with their grandparents, we would have liked better reception. After a day or two, we found that one of the seats on the porch outside the kitchen had excellent service for our Verizon phones.
This house is very close to the casino, but pretty far from almost everything else on the island. Half hour to just about any other place you'd want to travel. We didn't mind that though, as it was nice cruising the island in the convertible we rented.
The beds and mattresses in this house desperately need to be replaced. All are hard and uncomfortable. We actually drove to KMart and got new pillows to use, we were that uncomfortable! We left them there, so hopefully the next person can have a better nights sleep!
East End Pizza near the casino is very close and has great food. We went to the local grocery store and took advantage of the grill on the property several times while we were there.
There are outstanding views from the home and we took a multitude of beautiful pictures.
We'd recommend a day trip into Christiansted for dinner at Tavern 1844 and shopping. We also chartered a boat to Buck Island and that was a lovely way to spend a day. Waves at Cane Bay has a romantic atmosphere and you are so close to the water, you might get splashed! It's perfect!!
In all, we'd probably not come back to this house, due to the lack of pool heater, but it wasn't a bad stay either. The pool heater is also the reason we'd not recommend this property to anyone else, because we feel it's needed. Perhaps it was just not open long enough to have reached a comfortable temperature, but either way, we were very disappointed that we couldn't use the pool too much.
