Owner description: An imposing yellow Danish fort built to defend the Christiansted harbor.
Reviewed November 29, 2013 via mobile

We had a strange experience at the fort. We decided to pop in and check it out after a morning of shopping in Christiansted, so it could've been our fault for not checking schedules in advance or something... But there was nobody there despite the doors being wide open! There wasn't another soul in sight, employee or tourist alike, and with the wind howling over the fort walls it was downright eerie. Needless to say we didn't spend too much time at the fort. The day we visited happened to be the day after Thanksgiving, with the town of Christiansted getting ready for Jump Up festivities, so maybe that was the reason there was nobody at the fort?

There was a sign on the front gate saying there was entrance fee of $3, but there was nowhere to pay! The room that most resembled a visitors center towards the front of the fort was locked shut. So if you're interested in learning about the fort's history, taking a tour, or getting info from the visitors center, we suggest calling ahead or at least checking online for a schedule or something.

We enjoyed the view of the harbor and the fresh bracing air all the same :)

The guide was very passionate about the fort and knew his stuff. If you are a history buff you should visit this fort.

The fort is very nice to visit and learn about the history of the Danish presence on St. Croix. I just don't thing the site is worth the fee. I know $3 isn't much but there isn't really much to see at the fort.

We really enjoyed our visit. The cashier was very friendly and helpful. We could have had a tour guide but just used the notebook we borrowed. It cost $3 per person we think. The fort was very well preserved and had a lot of historical info to read in appropriate spots. Definitely a must see place. We learned a lot.

Altho it needs some fresh paint...such an interesting place to learn of St Croix history...the guides are excellent and the fort is well maintained (except for needing paint)
