“Mellow, relaxing atomosphere with awesome views, good snorkeling and great staff.”
Reviewed May 15, 2010

We picked The Palms after reading the other Trip Advisor reviews -- primarilary due to the snorkeling right off the beach and the reviews of the snorkel tours given by owner Chuck. We also like its close proximity to Christiansted. The hotel and the location exceeded our expectations. It has a great feeling of privacy and seclusion, but it is so darn convenient to everything.

Owners Chuck and Joyce couldn't have been more gracious, from the great snorkel tour to the jellyfish first aid! All the staff was super friendly and helpful, and the atmosphere was casual and informal.

The grounds are beautiful and well-kept, and our newly refurbished room was perfect (only exception was hair in the shower drain, which was disgusting and never really resolved by housekeeping). Our ocean front view couldn't have been better, and the balcony was a perfect spot in the afternoon when it was in the shade.

The food in the restaurant was pretty good -- better than in many hotels, and the drinks were terrific. The open air dining area and bar can't be topped.

One of the great things about The palms is the abundant wildlife. Pelicans, turtles, egrets and herons, igauna, dogs, and of couse all the great fish along the reef. The beach is beautiful and sandy, but don't expect the sand to extend into the water, or for the water to be typical Caribbean calm. The Palms is on a cove on the northeast side of the island with a great reef system, so the water is a little choppy and the floor of the ocean covered with rocks and coral. It is still a good, but not great, swimming beach. But if you want to snokel right off the beach, this is your spot.

I would totally recommend The Palms, and I would stay there again without hesitation. St. Croix is my favorite spot so far in the Caribbean: mellow, not overbuilt (hardly a chain anything anywhere we went), and the friendliest people everywhere.

We loved practially everything about this place. We met the owners and they took us out snorkeling, food at the restuarant there was great, received a bottle of rum in our room, walking distance to the water. The only thing that we had a problem with was getting on the wireless internet but it could have been our computer.

Anyway, we plan on going back again as it was perfectly relaxing and just what we needed.

Came to St. Croix on a business/pleasure trip for 3 nights. I'll give the lowdown on both the Palms and St. Croix in general, but focusing on the hotel since this is a hotel review!

We made our reservation late, so were in an non-remodeled room the first night. The key for the patio door lock didn't work (really old door), and the bathroom was REALLY dark (hard to see in the mirror!) We waited quite awhile to get the staff to unlock the back door, so that was frustrating because the first thing we wanted to do after a long trip was to just lie down on our patio... not hang in the room. We later requested to get moved to a newer room which they were able to accommodate the following day. It had a new door (yay!) and a very nicely remodeled bathroom. It was nice of the hotel to be able to accommodate our request here. At any rate, the room was clean and comfortable... and RIGHT on the beach. Can't beat that!

The food in the restaurant was very good, and the service was always great at the bar and in the restaurant... absolutely no complaints. The food was VERY good and the open air restaurant right on the beach is really breathtaking at sunset. After a few days, I really settled in and felt at home with the rhythm of the staff and the place. The resort is extremely quiet and relaxing - so keep this in mind depending on what you're looking for. The beach is fabulous.

The snorkeling was great, but I was disappointed that we couldn't go out with Chuck since it was my first time snorkeling. We asked about going out with him and gave them times, but nobody got back to us. My suggestion to make this resort really stand out would be get a little more organized and more attention to detail to really wow the customers. We had little issues like they took the dirty towels but didn't replace them, the Chuck snorkeling thing, the lock on the patio sliding door, stuff like that. It's all in the details. All minor stuff, but wanted to mention it. Would definitely come here again.... the value for your money is great.

Aside from the resort: One of us was in a car accident with a local, and it turned into a BIG problem. They drive on the left here, which is a little disorienting if you're from the states - so you need to be extra cautious. ** Put it this way - get the car rental insurance that they offer, our insurance company initially refused to cover USVI! ** Cape Air somehow lost a bag on a 6 person flight and seemed to be very careless with our luggage, so keep all essentials with you and a change of clothes!! It never crossed my mind that an airline that I watched put the bags on the plane could possibly lose them on the other end, when they only had 2 other bags to deal with. Everything in Christiansted is closed on Sunday, so don't plan to shop on that day.

Glad that you had a good time and thanks for your wonderful comments. I wish I had been there to introduce you to snorkeling, but I left island the day before you arrived and was away for a few weeks. Our staff person that assists with snorkeling went out with unexpected medical issues at the same time. After this we arranged for our Facilities Mgr. to do the snorkeling, but it was the day after you left. Sorry it did not work out, but we will make sure it happens next time. We have already replaced many of the older patio doors, and just received a shipment of replacement PVC/Stainless Steel doors which will be installed over the summer. I'm not sure why housekeeping took used towels didn't replace them at the same time, but we are visiting with them about it. Looking forward to seeing you on your return visit.

First things first, the beach at The Palms is amazing. If you happen to turn on the local Island Tour Channel when you're on St. Croix, you'll see that the channel awards this beach 5 palms out of 5 possible palms for scenery (Cane Bay Beach only gets 3 palms!!). A lot of locals we met told us that they swim or hang out at the beach too. If you're going to St. Croix for the beaches, look no further.

The atmosphere at the hotel is wonderful--great beachside dining at The Palms Restaurant and, on an island with little to no nightlife, the Mahogany Bar serves delicious drinks late. Also, you couldn't really ask for friendlier or more helpful people. Crucians are notoriously friendly, but the people at The Palms go above and beyond. Everyone will say "good morning" to you, so make sure you return the courtesy. We got married at The Palms and the hotel staff made sure the day was perfect. The Wedding Grove at The Palms is a beautiful place to get married with its white, sandy beaches and palm trees.

We opted for the roof-top suite with a private terrace and I would certainly recommend this option to other people. The terrace has lounge chairs for sun-bathing and awesome views of the beach below. Our room was recently renovated with a huge bed and bathroom and mahogany everywhere. The complimentary bottle of Cruzan Rum and daily fresh flowers really make the experience more memorable.

The hotel is even closer to downtown Christiansted than it appears to be on a map, so you can't beat the convenience. Also, great restaurants nearby.

We'll be back!

At breakfast time the sounds of the waves lapping no further than 6 ft away was heavenly.
The room was very spacious and beautifully decorated, bottle of complimentary local rum went down a treat.
The staff ,Chuck and his wife were so friendly I felt I was home in Ireland.
The local taxis trips to town took about 15 mins.
I would definitely stay in Palms Pelican Cove again and would highly recommend my friends and others to do the same.

We spent the last full week of April at the Palms At Pelican Cove and had a wonderful stay. Had a 3rd floor suite with amazing views from the large balony (see the photos attached!). The king four poster bed was very comfy. Large flat screen TVs in both living room & bed room. Housekeeping did a great job daily & kept us well supplied with coffee, soaps, etc. Everyone on the staff was so friendly.

The beach was usually quiet - just a handful of others around. We usually went down in the morning & took a couple loungers into the shade of some palms (use lots of sunscreen). The water warm & clear. The pool was well maintained. The pelicans and other birds entertained us daily. The grounds are covered with flowering bushes & trees.

We ate 3 meals at the restaurant & all were good. On our last night, our friendly waitress obliged my request & took a couple photos of us. When we ordered dessert, she brought us a HUGE piece of cheesecake to share: chocolate, coconut & mango. Oh my! The views for restaurant & bar are beautiful since it's a stone's throw from the water.

A stunning setting, nice people, attractive rooms, yummy food... who could ask for anything more?! This was our first visit to St. Croix. We will return & when we do, we'll stay at The Palms!

I had booked our stay on Hotels.com and didn't now exactly what to expect not having been to St. Croix before. The hotel far exceeded any expectations that I had. The food was excellent, rooms were large and comfortable and the staff was very friendly.

Chuck, the owner, went out of his way to take us snorkeling on the reef off the beach at the hotel. He even took pictures while we were out and presented us with a CD containing all of the pictures. He helped us schedule tours and gave great suggestions on local restaurants and destinations to visit.

If you are planning a trip to St. Croix this is the only place to stay.
