We arrived at the Divi after a 15 hour flight from Seattle on December 30, 2007. The staff at the counter was friendly but not over eager to assist us. Out total check in process was about 15 minutes. We parked our car right next to our room and walked in to a very nice size room. The room was what you would expect from a 3 star hotel. We had room number 209 and were very happy with the view of the ocean and the hammocks by the beach. The door to the balcony stuck a little when we first tried to open it but it opened easily after that. We made the mistake of locking ourself on the balcony within the first 5 minutes of our stay in our room, however, a passerby was kind enough to get someone from the front desk to let us back in our room. We had wonderful service at Big Al's Bar down by the pool and Scotty was a great bar tender all week. The food was pricey as it is all over the island but very good and large portions. The bar price was actually below average for the island. We ate at the Starlight for breakfast and the staff was VERY attentive. Definatly on island time but very attentive and making sure that we were alright and checking in many times. The one evening that we ate at the Starlight the service was VERY slow once again and they were short staffed however, the staff that was there checked in with us regularly and made sure we had everything that we wanted.

The maid service does begin at around 8am each morning, however, we put the do not disturb sign out on our door until we were ready to leave for the day and never had a problem. Our room was always neat and tidy when we were back. The water is very choppy for snorkeling, however, great for wading and shell searching.

Advise: This is a great hotel if you rent a car and want a nice base away from the main towns etc. Get used to Island time right away and you won't be disappointed with the service. The bar is definatly the friendly spot in town and expect to meet new friends each and every night.

I'm originally from the island of St.Croix but it's nice to go home and receive some preferential treatment once in awhile. The Divi offers and delivers.

The rooms were nicely adorned in rich blues that seemed to extend from my oceanfront room, right into the sea. Waking up to the surf rushing against the beach every morning was definitely worth the money spent. Room service was prompt, the food was well prepared (although variety in dining selections is limited to the Starlite Grill and Big Al's Bar), and the staff was courteous as to be expected in an island setting.

The miniature golf course was nice, the drinks were potent (just the right amt of alcohol), and the water activities made for a fun filled day, whether you were snorkeling, kayaking, or just taking in a few rays on the dock.

Xmas is very festive on St.Croix and the Divi added to the experience. Felt very much like home, except with a few extra perks. My week and a half stay was extremely tranquil and rejuvenating. Will definitely stay again.

My husband and I stayed at the Divi in St. Croix from Dec. 14-21. We were extremely disappointed with the Divi Carina. The reviews I had read were mixed, but overall the hotel sounded okay. Not the case. We got to the hotel around 8PM our first night. I immediately found the staff to be unfriendly and not very helpful. We got into our room quickly however. We stayed in room 160. The room itself was very average and in need of some repairs. Grout missing in between tiles on the floor, lots of peeling paint, chair pads missing, etc. But it was fairly clean. That morning we awoke, eager to check out the beach. All the rooms are beach front, which gives a nice view. However, the beach needs much improvement. Our first day the beach smelled of dead fish. There was seaweed everywhere-especially right in front of our room which was somewhat near the pier-there was more seaweed than sand. The hotel staff does try to clean up the seaweed, but it quickly accumulates again and makes the water and beach look very dirty. We later found out that the Divi's beach was once pretty much all seaweed and was man-made, so that explains some of the problems. It was always easy to get a beach chair, although many of them were broken. The water at the beach is pretty rough also. The pool water was always cloudy and looked dirty. The first day there the hot tub water was dirty and full of sand. After that, it was half full of water and filthy. The pool bottom had lots of peeling paint. The hotel food was good. The upstairs restaurant is pricey, but the grill on the beach had good food and average prices. The maid service was poor-they were very rude and would bang on the door early in the morning and act very annoyed if you didn't want them to clean the room right then, and were reluctant to come back later. Over the week the room developed an ant problem, and we spoke to several people that had the same problem. The hotel bar is fun (take advantage of happy hour from 4-6 every day when the drinks are half price). The bartender Chris was very nice and helpful. The hotel itself is very isolated-we rented a car and were very glad we did so. The island is beautiful and there is a lot to see. We did the Tan Tan tour which was very cool, and the Buck Island tour with Big Beards tour group which was a very fun day. Run Runners and Cheeseburgers in America's paradise were great restaurants to try. We also heard South Shore cafe was good. Check out the beer drinking pigs at the Domino club-very entertaining! Overall, we had a great trip and loved St. Croix. Just choose a different hotel. We saw The Carambola and The Buccaneer and they both looked very nice.

When you first arrive at the Divi Carina, don't expect the front desk staff to great you with a smile. You almost feel like you are inconveniencing them if you have a question about something.

The first room we were given had two double beds even though we booked a room with a king size bed. So they put us in another room which had all of the grout missing from the bathroom floor and had not been cleaned from the last guest who had stayed there (dirty towels on the floor, dirty sheets on the bed, garbage in the waste baskets and the toilet wasn't flushed from the last guest ... who also left the seat up ... oh and by the way the water wasn't working in the whole hotel so we couldn't flush it down ... which is something the front desk staff didn't mention when we checked in). Eventually they got us a room which had the right bed and had been cleaned beforehand.

The room was good. Nothing fancy, but about what you expect from a 3 star hotel. They are all facing the water which is nice. Our only complaint is that the pillows smelled a bit moldy.

The answer to when the water would be turned back on moved from 4pm to 5pm to 9pm. Not sure when it finally got fixed, but we were able to take a shower in the morning so it wasn't so bad. The safe broke a few days into our stay with our stuff in it. They were able to get out our stuff out, but it was never fixed so that we could use it again.

One day at about 3:00 we went to the water sports center to rent a sailboat. The person working there said "oh well I was going to close out early today in about an hour" So I said I would just rent it for half an hour at which point he changed his story and said that all of the boats needed new sails .... every sail boat needed new sails. That's what he came up with so that I wouldn't keep him from leaving early. Not good.

The starlight restaurant there is pretty good. We had breakfast there 3 times and they do pancakes and french toast very well. We had dinner there once and it was good, though a bit overpriced.

At checkout, we had a car coming at 10:50. So we checked out at about 10:15, left our luggage with the front desk and went to get some breakfast. At 10:45 we came back out and waited for our ride in the lobby area. We were in the lobby area for half an hour at which point I asked the front desk if they could call. It was at that point that they finally told me that the driver had already come and that they told him that they didn't see us anywhere. It wouldn't have taken much for them to actually look around before sending him off. Our luggage was right there so they should have known we were still there. We ended up having to pay for another taxi and the driver for the original service wouldn't refund our money (never use the Travellers' Tours for your airport transfers because he's got a reputation for coming early and leaving if you aren't there according to our new driver).

My mother and I stayed at Divi Carina Bay for 7 nights. Our room was right off the beach and we had a private porch; perfect for 2 fair-skinned women who can't be in the sun all day! I rented snorkeling gear and snorkeled in front of the resort; saw many types of fish and a seahorse! We went to the casino twice; it was smoky but fun for a short period of time (i.e. 1 roll of quarters!). The staff was very nice, helped us with a car rental, etc. The only complaint is service at the bar/outdoor dining room. It was not a busy time; but we waited 15 minutes on many occasions for a drink or menu!
