The Buccaneer is the most beautiful and accommodating resort I have ever been. The staff is so friendly and helpful. The grounds are immaculate and the food is terrific (breakfast is included with your stay). You won't ever want to leave. The views from my room were breathtaking and the room was updated and had all the conveniences of home. This resort has everything imaginable including lovely sunsets with a piano bar music while sipping cocktails from their covered outdoor dining area.

We (wife and kids) spent a week down at The Buccaneer in mid-June and had an amazing time. The hotel and the grounds were simply beautiful and the staff was quite helpful. The location of the hotel is good as it's only a 5-10 minute drive into Christiansted for shopping, dinner and off-resort activities.

The pool by Grotto was very nice and convenient if you're on that end of the resort. The other pool up by the main hotel seemed a bit small and out of the way but we didn't use it so I can't tell you more than that. The three beaches on the resort were wonderful. Grotto Beach is a lovely sand beach about a mile long but can be a bit difficult to enter the water as there is only one obvious gap through the coral to the water. Once through that it's quite nice. Whistle Beach is much more secluded, located past the golf course, and was deserted whenever we popped over to look there. Very scenic and more surf than the other beaches on the resort due to the angle toward the ocean. But the star of the resort is Mermaid Beach. Centrally located in a gorgeous crescent of soft sand with palm trees lining the beach, this is exactly what you imagine when you think tropical paradise. Myriad free activities to engage the kids and a restaurant/bar for refreshments right there for convenience. Truly a spectacular place to spend some time.

We stayed in the Ficus Suite (Room 400) right above the Grotto pool and found the room and the view to be amazing. It's a wonderful setup and the location is great. the resort was pretty empty when we were there so that view might be less perfect with a million people in the pool but in June it was great.

As noted by some other reviewers, the free breakfast included in your room charge is really nice - many options and you can get the kitchen to cook something special if you don't see what you want. Remember to tip the waitresses though, that part isn't included!

Only small issues, and people have also mentioned these, is that service on the beach is pretty slow and the dining options at night on the resort are a bit limited. On the beach, think somewhat slower than usual "island time" and you'll get the feel for the pace on that. We had a rental car so we went out to eat most nights and found some great places around the island to eat.

All in all, a great visit and resort and we wouldn't hesitate to go back.

Room Tip: Stayed in the Ficus Suite (Room 400), view is amazing, very big suite, terrace to die for.

The resort compares with some of the best in the world as far as natural beauty, beaches and location go. The rooms and room service were excellent; the beaches were pristine and the sweeping views from the restaurant and lobby was breathtaking. I do have a couple of suggestions for follow travelers:
1) The menu choices (esp for dinner) on the resort are somewhat limited, so it might be worthwhile looking for options outside the resort (we were there for a short impromptu trip and didn't look into these).
2) The main hotel and restaurant are at an elevation compared to some of the beaches and suites - so pack comfortable shoes.

Overall very happy with the trip, plan to go back.

Room Tip: The suites near the beaches are the best

Just returned from a week at "The Buc". It was fantastic. We started out on a great note when the staff upgraded our Ocean View room to a 2 room suite with 2 full bathrooms and an amazing view. I was traveling with my 12 year old and wanted to be in the main building vs. an out building as it felt safer, and they were quick to accomodate. The staff treats you like family and each one of the employees that we got to know hugged us goodbye on our last day and asked when we would be back. Special shout out to Alvin and Pat at the Terrace (Martel Lounge), Dave at The Mermaid, and Larry Love at the Terrace bar. Julie the concierge was top notch. I had lots of requests trying to work many things into the trip in the best way and she crafted a custom trip for us that was outstanding. The beach staff was also amazing and so fun. The crab races are not to be missed on Friday's at 3! The 3 beaches were each unique and beautiful and we were able to snorkel, kayak, and paddle board right at the resort and all non motorized water sport equipment was free. The room rate includes a daily breakfast buffet that is amazing and if you don't see exactly what you want they will make it for you (I had blueberry/banana pancakes on our last morning and my daughter had a bacon, ham, cheese omelette). The location of The Buccaneer is outstanding as it is very close to Christiansted, and also to the marina at the Tamarind Reef (Green Cay) where several of the snorkel/sail trips leave from (including the Teroro II and Captain Carl who was amazing!). The owner of the resort, Elizabeth, hosts a cocktail party every Tuesday night with Macko Jumbies (not sure about spelling here) and fun local music. She is also very often around the resort and it's nice to see an owner be so involved and it definitely lends to the family atmosphere. The amount of activities for children/families is astounding. At the Mermaid beach, in addition to all of the water activities, they have Corn Hole, Frisbee golf, Ping Pong, basketball, tether ball, beach volleyball, basketball, as well as daily organized activities like treasure hunts, soccer/volleyball games, and of course the crab races on Fridays. I also saw an impromptu baseball game with a large family visiting from Virginia and the beach staff. So much to do it's hard to be bored, but if you just want to sit in your chair and sip a cocktail you can do that too! We will be back!

Room Tip: Room 104...awesome
