“The perfect dive with the perfect people! Highly recommended”

If you are looking for a professional dive center with truly personalized service, please go to Anchor in Salt River, St. Croix.

My husband and I were visiting St. Croix and we were looking for some quality dive shops. We discovered Anchor Diving as we were driving towards Cane bay and decided to stop and ask questions about the dive sites, prices and the sailings they had.

We were warmly greeted by Glen who immediately answered all of our questions, pointing out the interesting areas of Salt River. He added historic facts mixed with his incredible knowledge of geologic formations and fish of the area. He explained that Anchor dive center is so close to the dive sites that they prefer to take divers to the site and then return for the surface interval, which we thought was pretty comfortable and relaxing.

February 10 was our diving day. I have to say it was THE PERFECT DIVE!
Glen gave a full briefing on what we would be doing, including details such as defogging the mask right before plunging in and safety when getting out of the water. The ship's captain also briefed us with all details about the ship and the emergency procedures. They offered to assemble our equipment, but we declined because we are used to doing this.

When we arrived to the dive site he helped us, and again offered extremely detailed descriptions on what we would be doing (all of this mixed with his excellent humor and great attitude). We plunged into a great adventure with sharks, lobsters, angel fish and lionfish hunting. On the latter, he explained to us that the area had been invaded by these fish and divers were authorized to hunt them. In consequence, he asked if we were comfortable with doing this, and once underwater he ensured complete safety throughout the hunting, and in general, the dive.

Once we surfaced, Glen and the Captain made sure that we were warm, rinsed our gear and organized the boat for our comfort. Afterwards we went back to the shop where Glen offered books of fish so that we could identify what we had just seen and gave more explanations on our sights. He also started on a new briefing for the next dive, which was equally amazing and full of adventures.

All in all, extremely personalized service, overly knowledgeable people and friendly smiles. I can only rate five stars for their professional service, but I wish that I could give many more stars to them.

“Laurie ruined it all”
Reviewed December 30, 2012

It's actually been a couple of years since we dived with Anchor Bay, but only now has it become possible to rate them on Trip Advisor. Before and since we've been diving around the world. For whatever reason, I flashed back recently to that past experience with Anchor Bay and how miserable one truly nasty human being can make an experience.

Wiz and his wife Laurie run the place. Wiz and the rest of the staff could not be nicer or more skilled, actually; that was true the last time we dived there and on a couple of other visits before that.

Wiz's wife Laurie, however, an omnipresent feature, treats members of the Anchor Bay staff so badly that we were embarrassed by it (condescending does not begin to cover it, and she definitely has no standing or skills to condescend to anyone).

She treated our family the same way after we'd been diving with them for about a month. When it came time to pay the bill, we did not receive discounts we had been promised by email (which yes, was painfully slow), despite having the hard-copy emails to document the pledge, and Laurie could not have been more unpleasant about it. One of her staffers stood by mortified while she acted like a nasty child and permanently lost our business.

If at some point Laurie stays behind the scenes where she belongs--she should definitely not be out with customers--maybe we would change our minds about keeping our distance, but until then, there are way too many great dive shops on the island for us to even consider it when in St Croix. Pick any of them but this one.

This is one of those situations where the "excellent" reviews will likely be accurate...if Laurie is not present when you dive. But it's simply not worth taking the chance that this terrible excuse for a service industry representative will steal your serenity and ruin your day...or week...or month.

“Great service; laid back dive operation”
Reviewed December 8, 2012

We just returned from a week of diving with Anchor Dive Center. I was a little concerned with the company as emails were late in being answered, not very specific, and they generally didn't seem all that concerned if we were coming or not. Also, there didn't seem to be an entry for them on Trip Advisor (until now), just mentions of them here and there on some trip reports. They were located right by Salt River which we wanted to dive, so we signed up and hoped for the best.

Well, it turned out we couldn't have been happier. We were warmly greeted by Wiz who is quite the friendly character, along with some of his captains. Filled out various paper work and then met the dive guide for the week, Bob. He went over how the boat works, what they do, what we need to do, etc. With about 10 people split into 2 groups, each with a dive master, off we went. They claim 1 dive master for every 6 divers and that was true our whole week with them. All dives except the one to Cane Bay were 10 minutes, about 5 of which were getting out of the creek at 5 mph/no wake speeds. Surface intervals were back at the dock. Cane Bay was about 30 minutes and the surface interval was mostly the ride back closer to the dive center.

Dives were led, but plenty of leeway to go off within sight of the divemaster. Typical profiles were 80 feet for 20 minutes, 50-60 feet for 20 minutes, then 10 minutes at 30-40 feet plus the normal safety stop. Reefs were in good shape, with very few lionfish spotted. Don't think they've been eradicated, just maybe deeper depths. It was nice to see more fish than we've seen on previous dives in other parts of the Caribbean. After the dives, the crew took your gear off the boat, washed it and had it ready for the next day. All you had to do was get your wet suit and make sure weight belts were on board.

One day we did not boat dive, but got tanks from the shop and did Frederiksted Pier by ourselves. They gave us plenty of info on how to get in, how to get out and what to look for. No pressure to do it with them at a higher cost. Just charged us $20 per tank plus the package for the other days we dove. Couldn't have been easier, and it was a great dive with a few seahorses and a frog fish among the many things we found ourselves.

It was great diving with Wiz and his crew. If you go with these folks, I think you'll be in for some great diving and service.

“Best dive shop on the island”
Reviewed November 18, 2012 via mobile

We have been visiting st Croix twice a year for the past 6 years and there is not a better outfit to dive with than anchor dive! They are friendly and very accommodating, and the dives are amazing!! I can't remember a dive in the past 2 years where we haven't seen turtles and sharks and plenty of micro life! We absolutely love and trust our dive masters wiz, bob, Sean, Eliot, and glen- they are knowledgable and fun but keep you safe. We have tried other dive shops on the island, but we will ALWAYS dive with them.

“Anchor Dive Center in St. Croix is AWESOME!”
Reviewed November 17, 2012

Just returned from St. Croix where we dove with Wiz, Laurie, Sean, Bob, Carlos and the crew from Anchor Dive Center in the Salt River National Park for 4 days.

Wiz and Laurie have put together an amazing crew...they are an easy-going and fun-loving bunch but when it comes to the diving, they are all business, exactly what you want from a dive shop! They run a very professional and safe operation with guidance and instruction given where needed; we could easily have been charged for a buyoancy class but Laurie, Sean, Bob and Carlos gave us pointers that made all the difference in our dive experience.

Three of our dives were a 5 - 10 minute boat ride from the shop and surface intervals were on shore where there were bathroom facilites, drinks, etc. Our other dive was at Cane Bay which was a 25 - 30 minute boat ride and well worth the trip.

We saw many beautiful fish, sting rays and had numerous sharks swim along with us, the reef was beautiful as well.

We also went on the bioluminescence kayak tour with Wade...all we can say is WOW! If you have never seen this, you definitely need to experience it, you'll have your mouth hanging open in amazement by the end of evening!

Thanks Anchor Dive Center Crew...we look forward to diving with you again!
