The final scene in the movie Trading Places was shot on the beach at this wonderful resort and it really is that beautiful.
Stayed for a week in Feb 2013.
wonderful resort. the go carts could be quieter otherwise great place.
You will need to rent a car to get to nearby restaurants hear the golf course is great but didnt make it to that.
great dive shop.

Room Tip: east side is a bit more quiet.

This resort is reasonable priced (remember this is an island so reasonable is not cheap) and the restaurants have fantastic food. You can come to this island and never leave Carambola Resort and be well satisfied as there are so many activities and events going on every day. Or you can just relax but the pool or on the beach with a drink which they will bring to you.

Room Tip: Ocean views are great here but a long walk back to the parking lot. Top of the hill rooms are nice...

My husband and I just returned from a long weekend at the Renaissance St. Croix Carambola. We went to relax & that's exactly what we did. Though our stay was brief, we found both pros & cons of the resort.
Pros:
*HUGE rooms (kitchenette, sofa, 2 flat screen tvs, double sinks, walk-in closet, enormous shower)
*screened in porch with cushioned banquettes
*it seemed the rooms were recently updated (except refrigerator & stove top, which was stained/burned)
*vacant beach/pool chairs (could be due to time of year?)
*friendly hotel staff
*friendly spa staff
*beautifully manicured landscape
*free parking
Cons:
*there was no hot water for showers. At best the water was luke warm (completely undid what the massage therapist achieved when I took a shower after massage)
*the resort was extremely remote. I suggest renting a car as a taxi rides to & from airport/cities could be pretty expensive
*only 2 restaurants (except Fridays). Only one restaurant open at a time. The menus are very basic, the prices a little on the high side, & the food good, not exceptional (entrees over priced & not worth it, the sandwiches were better tasting & better value). Hence another reason to rent a car.

Having said all that, I would definitely return, if my goal was to decompress & relax.

First off, I will say that we have not stayed in the guest rooms, as we are locals half the year and live just up the hill. But we do by a "resort pass" so we get to experience all the other amenities of the Carambola like any visiting guest.

The beach, on Davis Bay, is one of the nicest on St. Croix - beautiful sand, some waves, and rarely crowded. The resort invested recently in new beach chaise loungers and new beach towels - all first rate and very comfortable.

Food is pretty good here as well. While not a big fan of buffets, they have a nice Pirate Buffet with music on Friday nights and we have enjoyed their special Thanksgiving Buffet. The bar at poolside has a nice casual restaurant.

We do frequent the Spa at Carambola with some frequency. Recent improvements in professional staff and attention to detail have been much appreciated.

St. Croix is a wonderful island, fairly easy to get to from the mainland US with connections via Miami and San Juan. It's not at all touristy here...but it is, indeed, America's paradise. You could do no better than to book a stay at the Renaissance Carambola on St. Croix's gorgeous north shore. If you're looking for casinos and nightlife...look elsewhere. If you're looking for sun, surf, relaxation and restoration...stay here.

Room Tip: The rooms are decorated in an Indonesian style with nice screened porches for some down time. Room...

So like other travelers - we found this resort to be quiet and comfortable. The rooms are very large and comfortable. The bathroom are beautiful and we had a walk in closet! The screen porch is really the best feature of the rooms. It's such a relaxing place to spend the evening hours.

We traveled to this resort with our 4 year old daughter and while this isn't really marketed as a 'family resort' they staff were very engaging with our daughter. The restaurants both had children's menus (although you have to ask) and the kitchenette area in the room makes it easier traveling with a child. The beach, while amazingly beautiful, was a little rough for swimming. We ended up driving to other beaches (Rainbow Beach and Cane Bay) to swim with our daughter.

As for the downsides of this hotel . . . there is never a pool attendant to give you towels. We were told at check in to just go to the front desk if you need one - pretty inconvenient. Then at one point when I went to the front desk, they were frustrated with me for asking for a towel. Overall the service at the hotel was pretty good, but the front desk staff could be more engaging and accommodating. When I called them one time they put me on hold and never returned. When I called back and explained that I'd been left on hold for 10 minutes with no response, their response was 'oh yeah, my bad'.

Overall, we liked this hotel - we might consider returning because we really loved the island.

This place is gorgeous and the perfect get away with it's pristine beaches surrounded by a huge mountainous area. The people are all very friendly. It is one of the most beautiful places on earth. My one and only let down was the price of food at the restaurant. We ate there only twice, once for dinner and once for breakfast. I hate to cook but ended up going to the grocery and cooking in the room so we could afford to do some diving and day trips to Buck Island and other fun things. Spend $100.00 for an ok dinner or make an awesome dinner for about 10.00 and use the other $90.00 for fun stuff.......no question.
I would give this hotel a 9 out of 10. I think they should reduce the price of food slightly to encourage more people to eat at the restaurant...there weren't very many people there anytime we walked through.

Room Tip: The oceanview rooms are very nice. You can sit on your screened veranda and see & hear the ocean...
