“Great stay in St. Croix”
Reviewed April 4, 2013

We just spent the long Easter weekend at the Renaissance Carambola Beach Resort & Spa in St. Croix where we had a very pleasant stay. As we arrived at the hotel (after quite a long drive from STX, reason for which a car rental is absolutely necessary) we were greeted by their amazingly nice staff (with rum punch and all). I must give a shout-out to Ms. Jacqueline Carr, whose hospitality and good cheer certainly stands out. The hotel grounds are very nice (a bit rough around the edges, immaculateness-wise) and the rooms are spacious and comfortable. The resort's beach and pool are both very inviting and rather cozy. Overall, the Renaissance provided a great stay at what seemed to be one of the safe sides of the island.

Room Tip: Keep in mind that there are no elevators on the buildings, therefore if that does not work out for y...

Real nice place at the beach at Davis Bay. Some fine trails i the forrest. If you stays several days you need a car if you want to see St. Croix. There are some distance to shops and other restaurants. The rooms are exellent i small bungalows in at park.

Went there for destination wedding. Perfect setting for a romantic wedding on beautiful beach. Top staff very friendly and pitched in to help with all aspects of resort. However, resort seemed very understaffed. For example, too long of a wait for food in restaurant, limited amount of spoons?, no ice in minifridge, dessert came in ice cream carton.

Wedding reception was great, though.

Rooms and grounds beautiful. But, expected higher quality.

Room Tip: Rooms are a long way from oarking lot

We arrived on marriott points to be upgraded to an ocean side king bed room with sofa pull out. The room is old but nice and could use some freshening up but we didn't come to stay in the room. the beaches are very nice and the cane bay restaurants are nice but service was less than stellar at EAT @ cane bay. Cowboy Steve takes people on the most amazing horse rides on the island. He treats children especially well!!!

The resort had a small pool and a very laid back vibe. No one was servicing or taking orders for drinks at the pool and i felt a little disappointment when i had to go get my own drinks but they were reasonably priced and the food was very good for the price. It wasnt the high end resort that trips over each other to wait on you but that isnt why you come to st croix. We fell in love with this island and the people. The island is very clean and we felt very safe with my two young children. The rooms were old and not in keeping with what i would have expected from a marriott resort but we only slept in them.

Rent a car you will need it if staying here. We drove to Chriantsted and took a trip on Big Beards renegade sail to buck island... very worth it if the weather is good. The snorkeling was very good. The service was very good.

Dont stay here if you want to be waited on hand and foot. Stay here to get away and relax with your family on a very nice beach with a decent pool and friendly people.

Stayed in a king studio with a partial ocean view. Room was very nice, especially the bathroom. Also enjoyed the screened porch. Came with nice soaps, etc. We would have appreciated better towels however.
The beach is nice, especially the west half. There are enough chairs but they are simple and not luxurious. Likewise the beach towels are suboptimal.
The pool is clean and nice. Almost no shaded seating. Old design but still nice sized, shape and exceptionally clean.
Bar area is nice and service is good. Restaurants are better for breakfast and lunch. Our dinner was marginal. Perhaps we should have ordered the simpler fare. Close by are Rowdy Joe's and Eat@CaneBay. I recommend them both.
If you need drinks served to you on the beach and expect every leaf to have been raked nightly from the beach, this place may not be for you. If you want a relaxed setting, don't mind a short stroll for a drink, and don't fret the little stuff, this might be the spot. A plus is the dive shop on site that rents equipment to explore the coral and fish as well as boards to ride the waves. On balance we had an enjoyable time and would entertain visiting again.

We love this place! I was stunned and had a wonderful surprise in the Bell tower. My boyfriend asked me to marry him. Yippee! The bchef made us a special desert when he found out we just got engaged. We were greeted by Amadee and Pearl when we checked in to the resort.
We had some luscious rum punch and they had great infused orange water in the lobby.
We had building 19 rm 192 and it was perfect! This resort has only two floors and the property is beautiful. Staff was attending to the grooming of the property all of the time. We had a flat tire and Earl from the resort changed it for us he was great. Our room was beautiful and it reminded us of "Tommy Bahama" style. The room big and spacious. Had a little fridge with a very nice area to fix cocktails and a sink in the same area. It had a big bathroom two sinks and a really nice shower too. The beach was beautiful with a wonderful view of other islands on a really clear day. They had nice hammocks through out the property too. The screened in porches were fab. We slept with our doors open every night and heard the waves crashing. This resort is at the North end of the island. We loved the location. The North shore has lots of great restaurants. Our favorites Rowdy Joe's -great food and homemade luscious ice cream. We lovved Steve the bartender. Off the wall- great cocktails and sunsets. Fun local snow birds hung there.
Eat- cool place on Cane bay live music. Wave-really nice small rest. right on water.
We had a wonderful dinner. You must visit the Tidal pools there is a trail right from the resort.
Pool looked nice however we did not use it. Spa-massage were good. Very laid back island and resort. We loved this island and we will return.

Room Tip: Building 15, 16, 17, 18 and 19 all have great beachfront views and access.

We visited the beach at Carambola without actually staying at the resort as we are Marriott card holders. But after walking through and eating several lunches and a diner here we enjoyed the classic postcard setting of the crescemt shaped beach, steep mountains down the sea on the left and hills to the right with the Caribian ocean in front. Just a great way to spend a quiet day. One note on the beach - on shore it's nice sand but a bit rocky in the water, best spot for swiming is all the way to the left where it's just about all sand. The resort itself looked to be in extremely good conditiion. The Carambola tide pools are about a 30 minute hike though I would recommend doing the Tan Tan jeep tour as the terrain is very rocky and the tide pools were a bit rough on the day we went.
