Really wonderful snorkeling with both magnificent coral and a great diversity of fish. It can feel oddly crowded as there are several boats filled with people arriving around the same time. We sailed out, which was great fun in its own right.

Loved having lunch on the island. Was beautiful and views are spectacular. However bathroom facilites could us a little attention. Basically a hole in the ground, and didn't look like anyone maintaining or cleaning.

We went to Buck Island with Big Beards adventure earlier today. The trip to the island was with a catamaran and took approximately 1 hour using both engine and sail at the same time. There's not a lot to do on the boat, except for enjoying the view and taking pictures.

The first stop on the island is at a small beach with screensaver perfect water and sand - though the water is almost completely empty from life. It's meant for an introduction to snorkeling and to prepare for the actual reef snorkeling on the east side of the island.

The actual reef trip is rather short, but there is plenty of life to see. During 20 minutes in the water we saw parrotfish gnawing on the corals, a large school of beautiful blue fish and a shark. The reef itself was 80% dead and thus very brownish in color and not very vibrant.

For anyone not familiar with scuba-diving or snorkeling elsewhere, it's a fine place to try it out for the first time.

As beautiful as Turtle beach, which is the on the west end of the island , looks from St Croix it is even more beautiful to stand on and swim in its perfect turquoise water. It is a screen saver come to life right under your feet. For the full experience of visiting an uninhabited island with a clean white sandy beach, I recommend getting there with one of the charters that is sail power only. The quiet ride with only the wind and the waves splashing off the hull is very soothing. We took Buck Island charters with capt. Carl on the Teroro II and they were excellent. Make sure you wear sandals or flip flops if you decide to take the walk around the back of the island to check out the tide pools as the trail gets covered with wet dead leaves and small branches in some spots. Just enough to not be comfortable under foot. Next time we go , we are planning on the trip up the trail into the forest and to the top of the ridge. Can't wait.
