“Calmest spot on island”
Reviewed June 12, 2014 via mobile

With the natural protection of Green Cay (pronounced "key") the waters are unusually calm here. Nice sand beaches with sea grass beds 30 to 40 feet off the beach. A great place to practice snorkeling - you won't see tons of fish, but the gentle swells and shallow depths make it an ideal spot for practice. The truly adventurous can snorkel all the way to Green Cay about a half mile off the beach. And, you can walk to the Chenay Bay restaurant for facilities and beverages.

“Beautiful beach location!”
Reviewed May 14, 2014 via mobile

Been here many times over the years and am never disappointed. This is a perfect beach local and a hidden gem next to a bird preserve. Quiet, picturesque and best part is NO crowds. Snorkel right off the beach on lively reef and walk the soft sand for almost a mile. Bugs were a pest recently but not too too bad, bring a picnic and make a day of it!

“Pleasantly Surprised”
Reviewed April 13, 2014 via mobile

I booked this a few months ago and afterwards started reading reviews. I have to say I was trepadacious prior to arriving because I had seen so many negatives. To be honest, I had already made a contingency plan in case we got here and this place was not acceptable. You WILL NOT LIKE THIS PLACE if, you are young and looking for a party atmosphere, if you like to be in the middle of all the action, OR if you are expecting five star accommodations. You WILL LOVE THIS PLACE if you are looking for a place to relax comfortably, if you are looking for a place that is peaceful and quiet and away from the action, and if you can be content with a clean and tidy place that is cozy and comfortable. It's like beach/coastal rentals of any kind, plumbing runs a little slow, exteriors are weather worn, but for the price you are paying, you are getting a good deal. If you want to be pampered and treated like royalty, there are plenty of places around the that will do that. If you want a clean and quieter place to stay where the living room as well as the bedroom is comfortable for relaxing, this is a great place. As with any place, there are things that need to be repaired or upgraded, but my goodness, you are just here for a week. It's not like this is a place you just committed to a thirty year mortgage on.

TIP- last night was our first night and we went out after unpacking to grab something to eat. We headed west and found Ziggys which I had on my list to try. They had stopped serving food for the day and sent us next door to a little bar called Castaways that serves food. DON'T get the ribs...DO get the Smokey and the Bandit Pizza......especially if you are like me. I avoid pizza because I hate tomato sauce. This pizza features smoked gouda and smoked ham and it is to die for. Crust is yummy too.We will be eating there again before we leave!

“Perfect beginner snorkeler beach.”
Reviewed October 27, 2012

This beach is GREAT for people getting used to snorkeling. It is does not get very deep and there is nothing intimidating about it. Amazing clear water like every St. Croix beach, and social without being crowded.

“Nice & Tidy...But deader than a doornail!”
Reviewed June 30, 2011

We visited for snorkeling, and toured one of the cottage rooms. Rooms were clean and tidy, nicely decorated and upgraded countertops, etc. Looked like a couple of full beds and a tiny sink with a microwave and a mini-fridge. Way too small considering you need a full kitchen in St. Croix due to the terrible restaurant food, IMHO. The price per day was not that much less ($23) than our 1500-square-foot condo, so we were right to pass on Chenay Bay. The staff there were pleasantly indifferent (typical St. Croix), the restaurant was a ghost town and the bar was popular with a few people because the fans kept the no-see-ums away. The beach was clean and pretty, but the snorkeling was poor with few fish, and a grassy bottom and just a few areas for fish to hide in. There were nice-sized starfish here and there, but not worth a return visit for snorkeling. I laughed at the "no coolers or pets or glass on the beach" signs because in St. Croix ALL BEACHES ARE PUBLIC UP TO THE TREELINE. I brought in my beach chairs and cooler full of Caribe & Presidente in glass, no issues mon!
