Owner description: Located on St. Croix's north shore, the waters are not always gentle along this palm-tree-lined beach, but scuba diving and snorkeling are very popular here where less than 200 yards out is the drop-off called Cane Bay Wall.

Saw so many great reviews of this beach, so we were really looking forward to visiting it, but it wasn't what we were hoping for. Good for snorkeling if you know where to go. Went out the wrong way and it got shallow again, so my foot hit a sea urchin. No fun! One of the guys we were with went the correct way and saw tons of fish, coral and even a turtle. So, just ask which way to head out.

I really enjoyed this beach for a couple of reasons. 1st off out of all the islands that we went to on our cruise this is the only one that offered the best snorkeling right off the beach. Not the best snorkeling I've ever done but still, we at least had something to look at. There are tons of brain corral, stingrays, barracudas, crabs and lots of colorful fish! The sea urchins were to the right of the pier so just remember to swim out to the left of the pier, and you will be fine. Actually, you would be fine swimming over them but it can be a little nerve wracking because even though you are bouyant and are swimming at the top of the water you still FEEl like you are going to brush over them. There were some horseback riders who came through and swam with their horses in the ocean and even some local surfers. It was not busy by any means but enough things going on to stay entertained. From the cruise port it was a 25 mile drive to the beach and cost $18/ person roundtrip. We just hired a tour company right off the ship and they came back to pick us up at a set time. There is a restroom on this beach but it was pretty sketchy so we did not use it. Instead we walked across the street to a restaurant called "Eat." And this was our most talked about meal on our entire vacation. This place had the most amazing food!! We had salads, homemade veggie burgers, and sweet potato fries. It was soooooo good!!! Also, if you purchase something from the menu you can use the restroom here. Bathroom break or not, I highly recommend you make a stop here and sample their menu! You will not be disappointed!

This beach is rocky and not good for swimming. The beach is not wide(deep) and right by the road so there a lot of traffic going by. Did not see bathrooms just a porta potty. Waves are good for older kids wearing water shoes. Not very picturesque by Caribbean standards. No plans to return.

The next time you venture to St Croix, US Virgin Islands be sure and visit Cane Bay. On the north side of the island and a long taxi ride from Frederiksted, it is well worth the effort to go snorkeling. The day we were there the waves were calm and the snorkeling was effortless. Tons of fish and coral. There is a nice restaurant with plenty of items on the menu and of course beer. The beach is not the cleanest but there are trees for shade.
