“A wonderful vacation”
Reviewed March 5, 2014

In Jan. my wife and I spent 5 wonderful days at the Somerset Resort in Providenciales, Turks & Caicos. We have been to many Caribbean islands in our 40 years of traveling. This was one of the most beautiful resorts we have visited.
Starting with the beach with its clear, blue waters the swimming was just wonderful. You could even see the fish swimming with you. The beach staff was very helpful especially Kaye Ann. Even though we did not use the two pools, they looked very lovely.
The Continental breakfast that was included in our package consisted of very healthy food: fresh fruit, granola, and pastries. The portions was so plentiful that I was able to take some back to the room to enjoy later in the day. The pool restaurant provided wonderful service. We were even served while sitting on the beach lounges.
The resort grounds are very clean and well maintained. There were always people working on the grounds or trimming the bushes.
We stayed in a one bedroom suite that was very comfortable.
The entire staff was very friendly and helpful and made us feel like we were very special guests. Every staff member greeted us with a "Good Morning", 'Have a nice day", etc. We had a little problem with our travel arrangements and the hotel manager went out of her way to resolve the problem to our satisfaction
It was a wonderful place to relax, rest and get away from the snow.

Room Tip: Our Suite was very large and comfortable.

My wife and I wanted to get away and so we searched for a warm location so we could snorkel and relax over the long Valentine-President's weekend. We selected the Somerset because it seemed like it would not be overcrowded and we wanted peace and quiet. My wife received a complimentary rose upon arrival. We were assigned a beautiful one bedroom suite with a direct ocean view. I got a big kiss from my wife when we walked out on the veranda. So far so good. She was delighted. The kitchen, was fully stocked with everything you would need to cook, but I had my eye on the blender and my wife was not about to cook. We made reservations at the hotel restaurant and we had live lobsters from the lobster tank that evening. Food was excellent and there was a wide selection on the menu. Next day we headed down to the white beach and turquoise water to lay in the sun and snorkel. So relaxing. Went diving the next day and scheduled in room massages for the following day. Very romantic and had a great time. Would recommend the Somerset.

I came here for spring break and it was absolutely gorgeous the pictures on the website don't do it justice it was way better in person. The website is fabulous so to produce a better view in person was no feat.

With one of the harshest winters in recent history to hit the east coast, our family trip to The Somerset on Grace Bay could not have been better planned! We left Philly at 25 degrees and deplaned in Turks and Caicos at 85 degrees! The Somerset on Grace Bay offered us a spacious, well-appointed three bedroom suite, a friendly, helpful staff, and one of the prettiest beaches we ever experienced! We have already decided to return next year! Thank you for a fun, relaxing vacation!

We just returned from a six day stay at the Somerset. We were warmly greeted by Billie at the airport who helped us secure a taxi. Welcoming refreshments and a cold towel greeted us at reception - wonderful in the heat of the day! The check-in was prompt, thank you Natasha, and in no time we were in our suite - so appreciated with little kids!. We stayed in a very spacious 3 bedroom ocean view suite with a huge verandah. The first breathtaking view of the pool and ocean beyond will stay with me forever. And a similar view greeted us when we entered our home away from home - that is how it felt. Completely unlike the typical hotel room, the unit was beautiful decorated with well chosen expensive furniture, recognized from working with my decorator last year, definitely not commercial grade resort furnishings. The staff told us that every unit is unique in that way. Every day we walked the beach, the soft white sand is unlike any we have experienced in our travels, and the color of the ocean was a balm to my soul!!!! Kaye Ann was a delightful surprise, the kids club was unlike any we have experienced in the past, she took great interest in our children and crafted their time together in a fun, educational way - I didn't realize until we were leaving that she has a Master's in education. Somerset is lucky to have her! And we will come back because she made our time relaxed and my husband and I were able to get some much appreciated/needed time together! Every night my husband and I enjoyed a cocktail overlooking the pool and ocean, the view from our verandah was stunning and many evenings we didn't even want to leave it.
Within a day everyone addressed us by name and we felt at home - thank you Winston and Warren (bellmen)! The new restaurant on property serves delicious food! We can't remember another destination with the freshness and perfection served to us! Kudos to Chef Eric and Chef Thomas!
Don't miss the Tuesday night beach Barbeque ! so much Fun! Great food, a DJ and dancing under the stars - oh my, the stars are unbelievable in this part of the world!
We heard whisperings of a spa coming soon - will definitely have to come back!!!!! hint to my husband: Mother's day????? Please.

Room Tip: The resort is small and well laid out - seems like all would be great.

While I absolutely love the setting of Grace Bay and the grounds of the Somerset, I found the management and service during this stay truly unbearable. I am surprised at how many good reviews there are based on what we experienced. Though there were a few friendly and helpful people working there, most of the staff was standing around talking to each other rather than working. The kids club, though almost non-existent, seemed more of a nuisance for the person running it (KayAnn) than an added amenity as was advertised. I felt uncomfortable leaving my kids with her.
While the other hotels in the area offer complimentary paddle boards and other non-motorized water sports- Somerset only offered scuba gear and kayaks free of charge. Everything else you had to pay for (and it wasn't cheap). The complimentary continental breakfast was very small and repetitive (the same items were brought to our table each day- we did not have any choices).
I hope management either changes or improves dramatically, because the property is too beautiful to have such poor service.

Dear c2014143,

I would first like to apologize that you experienced disappointing service during your recent stay. It is certainly not reflective of our property as we strive for service excellence and to ensure all of our guests have a memorable vacation.

Most families appreciate our complimentary Caicos Kids Club and activities planned by KayAnn, who has a Master's degree in Education. She certainly loves organizing fun, interactive activities for our young guests.

We're also pleased to provide guests with complimentary snorkel and kayaks. We offer the stand up paddle boards, Hobie Cat sail boats and wind surfers to guests on a complimentary basis throughout their stay after an initial paid lesson. The lesson is to ensure the safety of both our guests and others in the waters of Grace Bay.

I will also pass along your comments to our new Food & Beverage team.

Again, we apologize your recent experience at The Somerset was not reflective of our resort's five-star standards. We hope to have the opportunity to welcome you again to our beautiful property.

Warm regards,
Urmas Karner

We stayed in the Sterling House in a two bedroom suite overlooking the pool and the ocean. The staff was absolutely wonderful. it is our second time and the the staff hugged and kissed our children hello, saying "welcome back". They have an infinity pool that overlooks the ocean which is different then most properties on this island which inclose the pool with their buildings. This is a real five star experience. The facilities are magnificent, I understand that they redid their lap bool two years ago with an underground sound system. The beach staff helped to teach us how to paddle board and were very patient and attentive. There is a beach bar-b-que on Tuesday nights with music and dancing for the whole family, it was so much fun! The front office staff is friendly, attentive and helped us plan all of our dinner reservations. The pool restuarant staff is friendly and all of the children at the hotel loved them. The kids club is amazing, they couldn't wait to go. You will feel very comfortable leaving your children with the babysitters there for a romantic night out. You get your money's worth at this hotel, it is an excellent value. Everyone makes you feel at home and this is a place that you definitely want to come back to again and again.

Room Tip: If you enjoy sitting on your deck and seeing magificent views stay in the Sterling House if you need...
