“Not only a Beautiful Resort, but a Champion for Reef Conservation”
Reviewed October 29, 2013

In 2008, my colleague, Dr. Scott Strong, and I initiated a Reef Monitoring program on Providenciales in the Turks and Caicos Islands to accompany our Marine Biology course that we teach through Keene State College. We chose the shallow and accessible reef in front of the Windsong resort to collect our data. Working with the protocols from Reef Check International, we have collected data for the past six years. We also have worked hard to include local residents of Provo with our main focus on high school students from Clement Howell High School as we see the future of conservation of the marine environment of Providenciales in the hands of its youth. Coral reefs throughout the world are in a state of shocking decline and the reefs of the Turks and Caicos Islands in general are no exception. But the good news is that our data still shows signs of overall good health for the last 6 years for the Windsong reef. Generally speaking, TCI’s reefs are comparatively better than many others in the Bahamas and Caribbean and other parts of the world where development has been extreme and has left severe impacts on marine life. But the reefs of Providenciales have also experienced impacts, and are now where I consider at a critical crossroad. Which path will Provo take? Follow the ways of others and continue development with no eye towards conservation? Or serve as a model of coral reef conservation where sustainability is integrated into development practices? When we began our reef conservation program, we sought assistance from businesses and organizations on the island. We have been fortunate to receive invaluable help from Dive Provo, SNUBA Provo and others on the island. But without the generous and consistent support from the Windsong Resort and Managing Partner, Jim Molter, this project would not have been able to continue since 2008. Mr. Molter recognizes that the proximity of the resort to most snorkeled reef on Providenciales puts them in a position of stewardship to a certain extent. As such, he has made sure that the Biologists and students involved in the reef work have accessible accommodations that allow us to effectively transport equipment to carry out our monitoring and education program. Moreover, the incredibly helpful and friendly staff has been a huge asset to our work. And so the vision of having development that can support conservation efforts, like the support from Windsong, takes Provo just a little bit more down that pathway of being an environmental model. Keeping the reefs around Provo in excellent condition is a win for all involved: business owners, visitors, local residents, marine biologists and anyone who cares about the environment. Visitors come to the Windsong for many reasons, but partly because of the ability to enjoy world premier snorkeling right in front of their hotel. Another good reason to support the Windsong is to support Reef conservation efforts like ours. - Dr. Karen Cangialosi, Department of Biology, Keene State College

This was our first trip to Turks & Caicos. We read the reviews of the island so we were prepared for the expense of the per person taxi rides. Recommend Ligi's and Grits taxi service. The beauty of the beaches and water is rivaled only by the hospitality of the locals. We experienced first class service and extremely friendly people. A wayward bike trip (flat tire) led us to the Cactus Bar & Grill, the owner, Angela, took very good care of us and we had great rum punch and excellent conch fritters. Highly recommend the Sail Beluga tour - a beautiful day on the water. This was a special trip to celebrate a friend turning 50 and my husband and my 25th wedding anniversary. We could walk directly from our beautiful, very large room at the Wind Song resort onto the beach and into crystal clear water to see an aquarium of different fish around the coral reef. I would say we definitely made the right choice choosing this beautiful location to celebrate our special events.

My wife and I recently returned from a visit to the Windsong Resort. The resort is a wonderful place for those wishing for a nice quiet vacation on a beautiful beach! The Windsong staff were outstanding in their service and kindness . Samuel and Royalton went out of their way to make sure all our eating and drinking needs were met!

The outstanding features of this resort are...
1) The beach and reef right off shore...saw lionfish, triggerfish, barracudas, and sting rays!
2) Free use of a Hobie Cat Sailboat, a paddleboard, and kayaks
3) The staff, from the front desk, to the wait staff, to the beach staff were outstanding!
4) Clean resort and rooms
5) Free bottled water given to you every morning when you went to the beach
6) Nice pool and hot tub, with towels set up for you each day
7) Nice cafe, set up every morning for breakfast for the guests.

And to be honest....there were just a few things that were not so great...
1) After dark, the mosquitos were terrible. The staff did provide OFF repellant for everyone to use.
2) The bed was very soft. The mattress should be replaced in my opinion.

With that said, my wife and I enjoyed our stay very much! We will likely return to this resort again in the future!

My overall opinion on the resort is that is good for relaxing in one the most beautiful beaches I had seen. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The food is good, but limited in options. The rooms are very good and the building is about 5 years old, so it's in good shape. I heard that the best time to visit Providenciales is September or October (I prefer less crowded seasons)

I believe the hotel will suit the needs of couples or families with older children. Can't recommend it for families with little kids or toddlers. The food is good, but with limited options and honestly, expensive. It has a pool, but nothing extraordinary, good enough... You have a terrific beach next to you, so, why complain..

We stayed at the room 241b, which is a standard room, with no view to the beach and a single bed. The value for the room is just about right.
The room came with complementary continental breakfast, that will be good enough for some, but if you want more, be prepared to expended at least 13 usd per person if you can't keep eating the same thing every morning. Be aware also, that the mini bar doesn't have any sodas or water or... anything (but a bottle or two of booze), so unless you want to expend a lot of money on the premises, take bottles of water or whatever with you.

The hotel will arrange a trip to the local super market or wine cellar for you to stock your refrigerator or if you want to purchase something else. Anything will be expensive compared to the US, but it's what you get when you live in an island with practically no industry but just tourism.
The round trip for the shopping will cost you $8 usd/person.

The resort is next to the beach, so it's location is great. They have huts and beach seats, so unless it's packed, you will be able to get one of them. If you don't have snorkeling equipment, they will give it to you for $5 bucks the day per person. I can't say enough... The Beach is superb and you can see quite some fish just 20 meters away from the beach using the snorkeling stuff.

If you book the typical activities through the hotel staff in the lobby, you will be probably picked up at the hotel or very near to it in the beach.

For moving around the island, they have "Lige" set up for you. Lige it's like the personal driver of the hotel. He will take you anywhere at a reasonable price... Will be always expensive compared to your typical cab, but again... Nothing much you can't do. I didn't checked the rental car options, but the Island is so small and you will probably will spend most of the time laying on the beach or doing something in the sea that it seems to me there is no need for a car. And driving in the left side of the road seems always strange for me anyway.

If you want to leave and try different things outside the resort, most of the staff will recommend a place or thing to do, but try always to set up things through the hotel lobby. I tried to go to a place using a "recommended cousin" from someone from the staff, and he never showed up, so I was forced to implement a plan B to go where we want it that day... Anyway, just plan ahead and things will be Ok..

So, I can see myself returning to this hotel. With a girlfriend.

Enjoy your stay

This was our first visit to TCI and after our stay at the Windsong Resort, it won't be our last. We enjoyed the laid-back feel of the resort and the awesome staff who made the vacation even more special. Special thank-yous go out to Tika, Ian and Charles who were always accommodating to our requests.
Our room was one of the best we've experienced in our travels to the Caribbean. We were in a 3rd floor oceanfront suite that offered amazing views of the beach front as well as spectacular sunrises and sunsets. We loved the sliding door- paneled balcony that allowed you to open 2 sides of the room to let in the ocean breeze. While the resort shares Grace Bay beach with many others, Windsong's location was simply the best; with primo snorkeling right at the beach. We saw more varieties of sea life there than on our extended snorkeling trips.

Thank you for a great vacation
Cal and Pat

Providenciales (Provo) is a gorgeous place to visit. The Windsong is a beautiful resort. The staff is amazing and their focus is on hospitality. After a week, Ian, Tika, Samuel, Charles, and Francois will be family. The staff goes out of their way to make sure that you are enjoying your vacation. Ian went out of his way to make sure we had everything that we needed and anticipated anything we might need. He helped us navigate the tours and booked them in advance for us. We have traveled throughout Canada, United States, Caribbean, Asia and Europe, our first thought for a repeat trip is Provo at Windsong. Our goal is to avoid going the same places; we are already planning our next trip to Provo. We highly recommend the Windsong. The staff was absolutely wonderful and made our romantic getaway very enjoyable.
