My boyfriend and I stayed at the Windsong In February,on our first trip to the Turks and Caicos. We went for a relaxing vacation and that is what we got. The only thing I would say is that we ended up with a unit with no balcony and that is one thing I wouldn't do again. Hotel staff was helpful and friendly, snorkeling right in front of the hotel was handy, beautiful long stretch of beach to walk. This resort was quiet and not too busy as were some spots on our walks. The food was okay and fairily expensive but "Somehere" next door was a fabulous spot, and we visited on several occaisons as it is a short walk on the beach to next door, and the bartender Alex and his cohort Caro were amazing at their jobs and a pleasure to watch work! Not the place to go if you are looking for night life, but we hear the resort down the beach did have some parties but they starter later in the evening and we never quite made it that late so can't comment on that. There are numerous great restaurants that we checked out and Lige the cab driver was a pleasure to deal with.

Room Tip: Opt for a front view with balcony!

My husband and I loved our one bedroom oceanfront suite at Windsong, on Grace Bay Beach. Even though we spent most of our time outdoors, we enjoyed how spacious and comfortable it was and we took advantage of the fully equipped kitchen for our lunch. Windsong has a small restaurant where we had breakfast. The staff at Windsong was very helpful and friendly, as were the people on the island. It was our first trip to Turks & Caicos and we loved it. Grace Bay Beach with its clear turquoise water and powdery white sand is the most beautiful and longest beach that we have seen in the Caribbean. To us, Providenciales is unique with its touristic development offering comfort and luxury, outstanding restaurants and its natural beauty that can still be appreciated in peace. Driving and/or walking around, it was easy to find ourselves alone on the beach away from resorts. The island is also ideal for snorkeling, particularly when staying at Windsong located right in front of the Bight Reef. Even though the reef is presently partially roped-off and can be busy, snorkeling is great. Smith's Reef, off Turtle Cove, further West on the beach is another ideal spot for snorkeling. In short, we had a wonderful holiday and plan to go back to Windsong as soon as we can.

I read TA reviews to help make decisions on every trip we go on. If a property isn't featured on TA, I start to wonder about it. So, I know people rely on these reviews for their travel adventures.
I see many 5 star reviews for Windsong Resort, but for this property, I feel a 5 star review isn't one I could give.

The property is situated on a stretch of beach where the reef is, which is really fun for kids and anyone else. It was great to be able to walk straight from the property into the water and start snorkeling. The units have a large kitchen for preparing snacks and making drinks, although a meal may be difficult as we had no pots or pans. The ocean facing units are worth the money. They have a beautiful, unobstructed view of the water and spacious deck space.

Also, most of the people at the Windsong, such as Charles, Alicia and RJ, were very nice and helpful.

However, the food at Jo Jo's is in dire need of improvement. Jo Jo's isn't meant to be the main restaurant where meals are taken by guests, and we dined every night at wonderful restaurants on the island, but there are times when we had to rely on Jo Jo's for the quick lunch or beach/poolside food. The oil must not be changed often for the fries, they have a stale taste, and the other menu items fell short as well. One dish we sent back, it was unacceptable. The menu items are expensive at Jo Jo's and I wish they would improve upon their food and in the process more people would eat there more often!

The pool area is a bit rundown and could use some improvement. There is peeling paint and broken spots here and there around the spa and pool. The spa is small. I think 4 adults can fit in it max. There are towels for guests in the morning, by afternoon getting a towel becomes spotty. My guess, there is only one washer and dryer and they can't get them out quick enough.

Windsong uses a cab driver, Lige, for guests. Beware of this guy. He is not a friendly person or on the up and up. We had an unpleasant experience with him the first time we used him, and after that, we started calling other cab drivers. They were all TCI natives, kind and honest. Try Gregory or Sir Charles...great guys. Lige has a reputation. Why does the Windsong continue to use him?

Finally, booking/confirming our trip with the 800 number at Windsong lead to an unprofessional phone operator who is obviously quite bored with her job.

We did enjoy our vacation relaxing, snorkeling and playing in the pool. The resort is low key, quite, and a great spot for family enjoyment. I don't want to put anyone off from staying here, but I do want to paint a realistic picture of how we felt about the property.

Room Tip: Ocean facing rooms are worth the money.

Mike H, General Manager at Windsong Resort, responded to this reviewResponded May 8, 2012

It is very disappointing to read this review and not be able to associate it with any complaint or comment brought to our attention. The Windsong staff works hard to assure each and every guest has a positive vacation experience and when we error and an issue does comes up, it is our policy to address it immediately. To that end and to assure any deficiency is corrected promptly, my business card with my personal cell phone number is given to every guest at check in; and I welcome their communication if any member of our staff does not conduct their self within our guests expectations.

To address specific comments within this review:

Our preferred taxi driver, Liège, received the Cab Driver of the Year Award in 2010 and is respected for the quality of his service and equipment and is the source of numerous compliments each month. As in any service business, issues can occur and we welcome comments from our guests (preferably close to the time of the incident) so we can make modification or changes when necessary.
We undertook the task of moving our laundry from one building to another recently and I must apologize, it did not happen as smoothly as we had expected and our terry and linen service did unexpectedly fall short for a period of time.
Restaurant service and food preparation is a very subjective subject and our guests have a wide range of expectations. JoJo’s is a café setting developed to provide tasty menu options for all three meal periods. We do not have deep fat fryers, our French Fries are actually baked. I do know our staff is committed to providing tasty menu items and our research indicates our pricing, although high by US standard’s, is exceptionally competitive within this island market.
Your comment about the attitude of our reservationist, a guest’s first contact with our resort, is quite upsetting and has been made the subject of a special staff meeting. If the opportunity presents itself and you favor us with a return visit, I will gladly personally handle your reservation.

We appreciate your taking the time to comment and can assure you your review did receive immediate attention and action from our management staff.

Kind regards,

Mike Hryniuk

Having last visited Providenciales 10 years ago, we were pleasantly surprised to find the Windsong Resort. What a fabulous hotel! On our last trip to the island many years ago, we stayed at Beaches and absolutely HATED it there. We wanted to come back to the island and were so happy with our stay at Windsong. The suite was beautiful, immaculately maintained and the staff was fantastic. Charles on the beach is the best!!!! He was so accommodating and friendly every day. The entire staff was so friendly and helpful. The beach is beautiful and you can't beat the fantastic snorkeling right in front of the hotel. Mike, the General Manager was fantastic on our last day. We had an evening flight home on our last day (after check-out), so he generously arranged for us to have use of the facilities and a room for showering and changing before we left for the airport. The cute little cafe, Somewhere next door at the Coral Gardens made up for the lack of dining options in the evening. We were regulars there....great bar!!! We will definitely be back and I've recommended Windsong to all of our friends!

Room Tip: All the rooms are great, facing the ocean!
