“Great Honeymoon”
Reviewed August 17, 2011

We stayed at the Windsong from August 1st - August 8th for our honeymoon. We stayed in both the One Bedroom Ocean Front Suite (4 nights) and the One Bedroom Penthouse Suite (3 nights). We went in the off season (August) which I highly recommend because the hotel prices are cheaper, the island is less crowded, and it is easy to get a table at pretty much any restaurant without a reservation. I was very worried before we went about the weather being too hot but the breeze makes it very comfortable.

The Ocean Front Suite was fantastic and had two bathrooms, two outside seating areas, a flat screen TV with cable (American, British, and Canadian channels), a washer/dryer, a full kitchen, a seating area, a desk, and a dining table.

The one bedroom Penthouse Suite was amazing (and gigantic). It was almost too big for two people (e.g., there was probably seating for 25 on the private balcony) but it outstanding views, a full kitchen, a bathtub and a double shower, a desk, a gigantic closet, two TVs, a wine cooler, etc. The balcony had a great grill, a fridge, a private hot tub, four deck chairs, two sectional couches, two dining tables, etc.

The resort itself was very clean, well-maintained, quiet, and not too crowded. The staff were all very friendly (e.g., the front desk staff helped us arrange cabs and make dinner reservations almost every night).

The snorkeling right off of the resort was fantastic. We saw hundreds of fish/sealife including a pufferfish, an octopus, needlefish, schools of parrotfish, cowfish, stingrays, conch shells, many varieties of coral, etc. It was the best snorkeling that I have ever done so close to the shore. You can rent snorkel equipment for the entire day for $5 per person at the SNUBA shop. Grace Bay Beach is also amazing and the water is so beautiful.

Be warned that there is a 11% government tax on everything an a 10% service charge on almost everything related to lodging/eating out. So, budget an extra 21% of what you are quoted unless it explicitly states that the tax and service charges are included.

The prices at the grocery stores are really high since they have to import everything. I would highly recommend bringing your own liquor, sunscreen, snacks (e.g., granola bars), etc. It costs about $10 each way to take a cab to the grocery store, which is pretty close to the hotel (its probably a 15-20 minute walk each way). We stocked up on some staples and made our own breakfast/lunches/drinks each day.

Jojo's Cafe (the restaurant at the hotel) had good casual food and great drinks (the mint margarita and rum punch were especially good). You can get a free breakfast but you are pretty limited in your selections (e.g., you have to pay extra for eggs, bacon, etc.).

Cabs to any of the restaurants will cost you $10-$15 each way and cabs to/from the airport will cost $20-$25 each way.

There are many restaurants within walking distance of the Windsong. I recommend Somewhere Cafe (right next to the hotel) for a casual dinner or a great breakfast. We also walked to Bay Bistro (about a 20 minute walk each way down the beach) where we had amazing food. We had to take cabs to Coco Bistro (I definitely recommend going there...the food and atmosphere are outstanding), Bella Luna (don't recommend it), and Tiki Hut (great restaurant for families or if you are on a budget).

I also strongly recommend the half-day snorkeling/conch diving cruise. You can sign up for it in the Snuba shop located at the resort and they pick you up right on the beach.

I would definitely recommend the Turks & Caicos Islands and the Windsong for honeymoons/anniversaries/couples vacations. It would also be great for a group of friends to stay in one of the penthouse suites.

Room Tip: Travel in the off-season. We got 50% off on our rooms and the weather was still amazing.

My husband and I stayed at the lovely Windsong last week for our 20th anniversary. The staff couldn't have been friendlier! After we checked in with Tika - the best source for restaurant reviews, Carianna surprised us with a fruit platter and bottle of wine to start our celebration! The room was amazing - immaculate and just what I requested. A third story oceanfront room with views to die for! The condo was everything the pictures showed and more. We had all the comforts of home in the fully equipped kitchen. We got lunch to go from Jojo's and ate it on our balcony. Who wouldn't love the privacy along with the comfy loungers, table and chairs and of course the view! The water looks like a melted blue ice pop. It is clear and warm. The snorkeling is the main attraction. We walked off the beach and in a few steps were treated to parrot fish, squid, and even a friendly barracuda! It was even better than the barrier reef! Charles at the beach couldn't have been any more outgoing! Watch him when people from other resorts try to sit on the Windsong's chairs! Ian at the front desk was helpful too. He put us in touch with "10 minute Lige" the cab driver who would be there in moments no matter what time of day. Tika's recommendations along with those of Tipadvisor reviewers steered us towards some wonderful places to eat. Walk over to Somewhere and say hi to Alex the bartender. He's a lot of fun, the food is delicious and reasonable, and the view at sunset is breathtaking! Magnolia had great food, Lemon was exotic and delicious, and Coco Bistro had the most romantic atmosphere. We had a blast on Caicos Dream tour - watch out for the rum punch! All in all, the Windsong is a place I can't wait to return to someday. Maybe we'll even bring the kids! For us, two very seasoned travelers, Windsong is paradise! Thanks to all who made it a vacation I'll never forget!

Room Tip: Go for the oceanfront room - you won't be disappointed!

It was our first time to go to Turks and Caicos and to the Windsong. We had great service, great staff and the accommodations looked just like the internet pictures. Everything was as billed. We caught fish and the chef cooked them for us and it doesn't get any fresher than that. We had good outings fishing and snorkelling. We had a fabulous trip and will likely return. The water is the same color that it is on the pictures. In summary we loved the trip and the place and assuming we go back to Turks and Caicos the Windsong will be the first place we look. We also enjoyed the Karyoke and the live music(don't miss Finger Smith if you like smooth jazz) that was on site.
Very minor negatives: The continental breakfast gets a bit boring after a week(would be nice to be able to order anything off menu) strangely everything else is less than the continental breakfast. The island is very expensive groceries are about twice what you pay in the states along with gas and resturants. The exercise facility is sparse although appeared to rarely be used.
The resturants in the area are excellent with top picks of the Lemon Cafe and Magnolia wine bar and resturant.
We rented car and did not need airport transportation and we did not use the spa.

Room Tip: No tips rooms were excellent. We had minor problem and staff was great to reconcile problem

The resort's charming Havana Club offered a very professional and funny Magic Show, followed by an even more humorous standup comedian. Surprising to find two such accomplished entertainers so far from the big cities.

We stayed at the Windsong Resort for our 6 year anniversary. It was amazing!! The hotel is gorgeous!! Small, boutique hotel...only 50 units. The service was amazing. If I needed something from the from desk, after my call they were there within 5 minutes. The food on the property is delish!!! And reasonably priced!! We had a 1 bedroom ocean front suite and it was i mpeccable. From the granite and stainless steel kitchen to the awesome bathroom. The pictures of the hotel rooms you see online, are exactly what it looks like. The beach is amazing as well! The best snorkeling reef is directly in front of the hotel. There were people from other hotels coming to this reef with their snorkel gear to snorkel at this reef. Best thing is that in the hotel is a place called "SNUBA" where you can rent snorkel, mask and flippers for only $5 for the entire day! Tons of fish on the reef! Grouper, Snapper, you name it!! Great service on the beach by "Charles". He's the best! Always has a smile on his face, remembers your favortie things and genuinely an amazing person. The Windsong is lucky to have him!! The water is so clear and the most gorgeous color turqouise!! I've been to a lot of carribean beaches and this is the best yet! They also have complimentary kayaks and bicycles. Can't see much on the bikes because of the area. Best bet to rent a small car from Grace Bay Rentals. About $50 a day. They drop off the car to the hotel and you can leave it at the hotel or airport. Car is the best way if you want to get around the island.. A taxi will cost you about $20 roundtrip to anywhere for 2 people. Best places to eat...The Conch Shack & Sharkbite. Actually we ate at tons of places and the food everywhere was amazing! You must go to Provo Ponies and ride the horses! They take you into the ocean on them...AWESOME! This was our first time here (Turks & Caicos and hotel) and it will defintely NOT be our last. Our trip was AMAZING!!! We didn't want to come home to Miami!!!

Room Tip: Get the 1 ocean front suite. You have a full size kitchen with stove, fridge, dishwasher, everything...

My wife and I celebrated our 20th wedding anniversary by taking a trip to the Turks and Caicos and staying at the Windsong Resort. This is a very nice, cozy place with a very friendly and accommodating staff. The location can't be beat for snorkeling with the reef right there and they let us borrow the gear free of charge.
