Booked Cap'n Will well in advance because good guides get booked out quick and didn't want to end up with one of the larger, more commercial firms. Will was really helpful in advance of my trip. This trip was a big deal for me and I wanted to push the odds in my favour by being as well prepared as possible. Will replied to all emails by return and his enthusiasm is infectious. To be fair it was going to be a tough day and Will made this clear. Tide levels were high, moon was full and change of weather was approaching however despite this adversity we waded some really great flats. Will got me three good shots at big fish but without success. With the first fish I was just plain unlucky, and second two misses were result of my own errors so should really have had two fish for a tough day which would have been a result under difficult circumstances. They won't be errors I will make again! A good guide is as keen as his client to see fish landed and Will tried all he could, covering different areas, creeks and flats. On another day, it would have been a different result. The effort was there and even though the wrong result I learned plenty. He is clearly a really accomplished fisherman and a great guide. I would have no hesitation in recommending him to beginner or pro looking for a days fishing. From talking to fellow fisherman in hotel one thing seems clear. Stick with the smaller specialist charters and don't be tempted by the companies that offer it all. I hope to be back.
