One of the best meals for the money on the entire island. The only reason for not giving it 5 stars is the need for more service. Don't go here if you are in a hurry. Otherwise, you will find it a fine place where the natives go for a reasonable meal.

“Fantastic local restaurant”
Reviewed November 29, 2013

We asked our taxi driver on the first night for some recommendations for local dining, and he steered us to Mr. Groupers. We spoke with several other guests staying at our hotel and they also recommended. The food is superb, and affordable. Not a fancy place, a bit of a hole in the wall but go for the food!!!! From appetizer (Conch Fritters), to entrée (Coconut Shrimp w/potato salad and fried plantains and Breaded Pork Chops with mac/cheese and cole slaw) through dessert (rum raisin ice cream) dinner was to die for! And, we walked away without a gaping hole in our pocket. We were only on island for a few days, otherwise we'd have gone twice!

“Good local food”
Reviewed November 29, 2013 via mobile

We saw so many good reviews about Mr. Grouper that we thoughts we would try it. The area looked a little sketchy (lots of stray dogs wandering around), but that didn't deter us. The food was good and our server was very sweet. I'm glad we checked it out!

“Oasis of Reality amid the Fantasy”
Reviewed November 27, 2013

Away from the beach, not inside a hotel, and looking a bit rustic, this has become our favorite Provo eatery. Service is even warmer and friendlier than the already high average for this area. Atmosphere is...well, not 5-star luxury resort....which was a very welcome relief. It was very pleasant to eat in a more relaxed atmosphere, with actual local music playing on the PA, some handpainted signs. Cooking was top notch. Prices reasonable by TCI standards. I had pecan crusted conch, really tasty. Our waitress was very concerned about rain and cajoled us into moving inside...as we left, the rest of the al fresco diners were scrambling amid a tropical downpour, so we were thankful for our server's wisdom. This is the only restaurant we've been to so far where there were non-tourist among the clientele.

“Locals only”
Reviewed November 26, 2013

We biked to this restaurant for lunch and were very excited to see the local favorite. The food was just ok compared to other places and the service was the slowest we experienced on the island. Locals came in droves to pick up take-out orders and got priority over those in the dining room. I wouldn't go back.
