“Lovely Honeymoon at the T&C Club”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 14, 2008

My husband and I recently returned from our Turks & Caicos Club honeymoon. The property was lovely, as was our poolside suite.

The pros: Compared with other properties we visited (e.g. the horrific Palms), T&C Club was incredibly serene. The beach was practically unpopulated - sometimes we were the only ones there. And this was during peak season. Such a relief compared with other crowded properties - parts of the Grace Bay strip are beginning to resemble an upmarket Cancun! I would stay at the T&C Club again for the lovely, secluded feeling alone.

Our room was lovely. Clean and new and spacious. No complaints. Free breakfast was a plus. No, the portions aren't huge, but it's a nice way to start the day.

The staff was a mixed bag. They are exceedingly nice. That said, as other reviewers have pointed out, they don't always follow through. We had no problem getting reservations made for scuba and for dinner. But when my husband tried to set up a private beach dinner for the two of us, he was met with puzzlement and ultimately told to deal directly with Simba, the on-property restaurant. Not a huge deal, but it's definitely not five-star caliber service.

Cons: Service in the restaurant during breakfast was achingly slow. We sort of learned to just go with it and never be in a hurry. But you have to be able to make that adjustment.

Overall, we'd recommend this property again in a heartbeat. It was ideal for what we wanted on our honeymoon - understated luxury that's not over-the-top. If you're the type who needs to be waited on hand-and-foot, it's not for you.

Okay, it's all relative: on Turks-Caicos, $600/nt doesn't buy what it should, but . . .

The Pro's -- Nice intimate size. Large rooms. Good beds. Spacious, well-equipped kitchen. Generous oceanfront balconies. Exterior architecture (Spanish Colonial) reasonably well executed. Landscaping, layout, pool all get a solid A- (no one would call it 'manicured'). Great location on the end of the beach. (This will change, as developments materialize on both sides).

The Con's -- Very mediocre service. Well-meaning, up to a point, but almost every inquiry is met with an, "Ummm, hmmm, I don't know, let me see." Not exactly a can-do, we'll-take-care-of-it spirit of competence. The breakfast is totally bush-league -- don't even bother offering "fresh fruit," if it's going to be hard, unripe cantelope, etc. Beachfront service sporadic and slow. A lot of the interior is cheap Home Depot-grade stuff -- like the fiberglass shower (not a tile in sight) and the flimsy, hollow doors. This is called cutting corners -- it should not be called "luxury"! The chaises on the beach are close together and made of the cheap nylon webbing, not the more cloth-like material, and the umbrellas are small, so they don't cast much shade. The bicycles were old and broken, and a) they make you fill out a form to borrow one, and b) they couldn't produce a wrench to adjust the seats. Lastly, as one reviewer noted, the workout room really is pathetic -- small and almost unbearably smelly. We took one step in and turned around, and that was that -- joggIng outside and other exercise, but no working out in the 'gym.'

All of this would be okay at a third to a half of the price -- what you'd pay at, say, the Alexandra or the Royal West Indies -- but for this price it's a bit much, even by the standards of Turks-Caicos. (In the US, this should be about $50-100 night, almost regardless of location.) Then again, there are trade-offs, and we really wanted a smaller place, so we weren't altogether dissatisfied, but we just wouldn't go back.

Hello,

My husband and I just came back from 5 days at the Turks and Caicos club and I felt compelled to write a review. We ended up having a great time, thought the beaches were gorgeous, but we would not return to the TC club.

1). We arrived and had no luggage for the first 24 hrs.- obviously and American Airlines issue (also, avoid flying/connecting through Miami at all costs- dreadful- lost luggage and canceled flights both ways). Anyways, the hotel didn't even offer us a toothbrush and toothpaste. My husband and I travel a lot for work and we thought this was disgraceful at a hotel of this caliber.

2). When our bags did arrive American was taking their sweet time getting our bags to us. Mind you the airport is only 10 minutes away (but a $20 cab ride) - its unfortunate the hotel didn't offer to pick them up for us.

3). Dinner reservations- we were there to celebrate my birthday and asked the front desk to make a reservation at Anaconda, we asked them to do this 2 days in advance. When we arrived at the restaurant, very excited to celebrate the momentous occasion, we had no reservation! I know, I should have just made it myself but the hotel prides itself on customer service. We made the best of it and sat at the bar for dinner but were very disappointed.

Other than that we enjoyed the beach. The hotel room was spacious, beautiful, and immaculately clean. Very nice. The beach was nice but it is definitely on the windy side of the bay. If we had to do it again we would probably stay at the Grace Bay Club (they were sold out when I made the reservation) or somewhere nearby the Grace Bay Club. I hear Le Vele is very nice, small, etc. The TC club really had no amenities so if you are ok with that and are looking for seclusion its the place for you. But the beach is very windy and some days had to go to the pool. Also, there is no beach service to speak of, they come by once asking if you would like a drink and then you never see them again.

In addition, if you want to walk to dinner at night on the beach its not safe or recommended. Plus, to get to a decent restaurant it would be a 45 minute walk to the next decent hotel. (The Coral Reef Club and Beaches are the next two hotels up the beach- Beaches is a nightmare) . We were looking forward to walking to dinners and sort of "bar hopping" and checking out all the hotels on the way home. Cant do that, instead you take a $20 cab ride to dinner and back. Also, it seems none of the cab drivers have change for a $20, crazy. Get change before you get into any cab. They tell you they will bring change when they pick you up!! Just wrong.

I would highly recomment renting a car, don;'t even think about not renting one, you will spend more money on cabs than you will by renting a car. Everyone we met had rented a car.

The restaurant Simba was excellent, we only had one bad entree and that was the fish and chips. We loved the restaurant and all the staff- very friendly, helpful, courteous. The Ceasar salad is FANTASTIC!!

All in all, not a bad vacation. The TC Club is extremely relaxing and a beautiful property, they just need to work on their customer service if they want to consider themselves a 5 star resort- certainly not in our opinion based on our experience.

From the guidebooks, website and numerous reviews we read, we were comfortable with selecting the Turks & Caicos Club as our place to vacation. After just returning from an incredible 7 days, we highly recommend the resort!

The hotel grounds were beautiful! Our room was oceanfront was splendid with a beautiful view from our balcony, lots of living room, stainless appliances in the kitchen all seemed brand new, comfortable beds and nice Bulgari bath items.

The resort never felt crowded. In fact, most days and evenings, we felt like it was our private house (a big one.)The beach is INCREDIBLE. There is construction further up the beach, but in all honesty, it never bothered us as it wasn't next door. It's a shame to see so much overdevelopment of a beautiful beach, but that's why we consider this a nice secret as we found there aren't many small hotels left on Provo. We met the owner and she was very kind to stop and chat with us one evening. She does a nice job and her staff was very helpful, Abdul in particular whom always seemed to go the extra mile.

Couple tips - the food was very good and full breakfast is included but the IGA is a few minutes up the road to stock up on items to snack on during the day. Plus, be sure to check out some of the other restaurants like Magnolia overlooking the marina and Grace Cottage (for a romantic night out.) We did enjoy the hotel restaurant. Service was sometimes slow in the mornings, but people in general on Provo seemed to be that way. We assumed this was what is meant by island time. We rented a car from Grace Bay Car rentals after we arrived (not before.) We were glad we did and recommend it if you don't mind driving on the let as taxi rates are per person and can add up.

We hope to now make this an annual trip and consider the Turks & Caicos Club to be one of the best kept secrets in Provo if not the Caribbean.

We stayed at the Turks and Caicos Club for five nights in March and we loved every minute of it. As soon as we arrived we felt welcome and at ease. Everyone we encountered was genuinely friendly and helpful. We had a pool view room with a large patio surrounded by beautiful gardens. The room itself is the same as the oceanfront rooms – a one bedroom, living area and a fully equipped kitchen. The bathroom was a little on the small size but there was plenty of storage. Robes and Bulgari shampoo, conditioner and lotion were supplied and replenished and there is also a washer and dryer. The maid service was great and there was turndown service too.

The beach is large and mostly empty. There was one time where my husband and I were the only two people on “our” stretch of beach. Umbrellas, lounge chairs, towels and snorkel gear were always available. You can walk five minutes down the beach to snorkel in front of Coral Gardens. We saw turtles and two barracudas along with all sorts of fish. It was great to be able to snorkel whenever we wanted.

If you are looking for peace and quiet along with a friendly easy going atmosphere, this is your place.

My wife and I just finished a four night stay and had the "Pictures in Paradise" package. What a sweet vacation. The view from the huge oceanfront porch was unbelievable. Much nicer than The Sands where we stayed two previous trips. I liked the smallness of the property, only 21 units, and the friendliness of the staff. Get unit 315 if you only need one bedroom. The restaurant, Simba, is one of the best on the island, and the complimentary full breakfast helps justify the cost. They also changed dates for us with no hassle when a work conflict came up and we were unable to go on our original booking date in February. The only negative was that there is so much construction on Grace Bay - the noise can be distracting, so check the construction progress a couple of lots east.

We just got back from our 4 night Romantic Escape at the TCC. It was everything I hoped it would be! The hotel is beautiful -- the prettiest that I saw along the beach. When we originally booked, we got a first floor garden room b/c ocean was not available. I requested that we be moved to second floor ocean front if one should become available (not really thinking this might happen). Low and behold, when we arrived, we did indeed get second floor, ocean front. What a view! We had a one bedroom suite and I loved the set up of the room with the bed raised a level, directly facing the ocean so you could make the ocean your first sight of the day....There were also several windows which provided great air circulation -- we did not use the A/C at all while we were there.

It is a very quiet low key resort, just what we needed. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. We're very simple people and don't ask much in terms of service but it was there anyway, quiet unobtrusive. Abdul is awesome!

I'm not sure I would take my kids there -- who are ages 5, 9 and 11 -- might be a little too quiet for them at those ages but I would be sad going anywhere else. I just loved it.

The beach is gorgeous, best I've seen. The snorkeling down the beach is terrific although a pretty sizeable shark appeared there in the shallows (4 ft of water!!) -- even the "belongers" were very surprised by this. I was a little nervous after that although I am very much a novice snorkeler. We also saw a huge sting ray, baracuda, lots of pretty fish.

If I were forced to say anything negative it would be that we could hear construction to some extent from the Toscana which is going up between Coral Gardens and TCC. It was very minor though and with the beach and beautiful accommodations, "no problem mon...."

We had a great meal at Simba, also at Grace's Cottage (beautiful setting), Coco Bistro. Hemmingways was good for more casual dinner.

I would highly recommend TCC and think it is a good value, especially if you check out some of the prices of the other upscale resorts.
