we traveled (wife and 2 kids ages 8,5) presidents week for 5 nights. For reference we have traveled a lot with kids --atlantis, hard rock universal, disney yacht/beach club as well as many trips before kids. I read all the reviews beforehand and honestly felt that the good and bad are true to some extent...however the pluses FAR outweigh the negatives (and they should given the $$$$$ involved). Anyway...
CUSTOMS- a breeze, 10 minutes (If you have traveled to the bahamas you will appreciate that this airport is far more efficient although tiny and a hot boring place to kill time if you need to ie when leaving the island. To be safe on way home leave some extra time- would get there about 2 hrs prior to flight to be safe and stress free) TRANSFERS-- a horror. Now I was ready for a crappy non air-conditioned van given all the reviews. Truthfully we've traveled to carribean resorts and this is not far from the norm and heck a 15 minute ride ..who cares. However after giving a tip to the only beaches associated person who gladly took it --after looking around to make sure no one was looking- he labeled our luggage with our room # and told us they would get us there "fast" directing us to a van (their vans appear to be variable because they use many different cab companies- whichever is around). What I wasnt ready for was our van tailgating the van in front and subsequently stopping short and being rear-ended with the cab behind us having its front severely damaged and me injuring my back (not life threatening but an awful way to begin a trip and with lingering mild pain) After a 2+ hour trip to the hospital ( warning do not get "hospital" sick in TC , you will not make it off the island alive)I called Beaches to get me. On the plus side the physician bill was $50 and being a doctor myself let me tell you - you get what you pay for (the resort did pick it up) Anyway a beaches rep picked me up and i met my family who had already checked in ...which apparently went smoothly .. with apologies although no upgrades etc.. In short beaches management was eventually very apologetic and did eventually make some amends. FRONT DESK- in general not impressed, slow , not responsive ,forgetful and somewhat apathetic. MANAGEMENT- excellent including Francoise, Mr Williams, and the General Manager .... very professional, caring about their guests . OTHER STAFF- in general good to outstanding including waiter/ waitresses/ hostesses ,food servers (always made small talk with the kids), maids (always 2 tines a day with a smile and fresh towels , maintenance with props to Nicholas who managed to be walking by our room when my 5 yo son got his arm caught in the hinge of the bathroom door, and got the door unhinged with his utility knife in about 1 minute and wouldnt take a 20 dollar tip ("I could get fired for taking it")when I practically forced it on him...thank you sincerely Nicholas ROOMS- honeymoon(?) deluxe rm -- what i expected from what I read .. clean , nice size, nice terrace. beds small ..doubles but comfortable. TV reception. picture etc excellent You are not in the room much anyway, bathroom fine.. nothing fancy . Wouldnt want to rely on pullout chair to sleep if i was more than 5. NO bugs,. AC adequate -nothing great. We were happy we picked the main building over the french area - main bldng closer to beach and central/close to everything- Pirates island, restaurants/ playground/ chess / shuffleboard almost all the pools.... French obviously newer but much louder- music shows by french area till about 10pm everynight/ loud. Also no balcony in frenchvillage which is a definite negative. our room was clean and bug free(one tiny ant near door in 6days) FOOD- fair. Breakfast is best meal - we enjoyed Schooners- non buffet, nice setting, not crowded ( for breakfast only) as most people go the buffets for breakfast-- food is about the same in all 3 places for breakfast and the breakfast buffets are good. Omelettes made to order -good Grits at reflections, good pancakes, good breakfast cabbage at guisseppes , good croissants all around (other bread not great, same rolls mediocre at best at all the restaurants for each meal). Fruit plentiful at all restaurants and we ate plenty of it-- good not great with watermelon the best and honeydoo with little taste ;in all rstaurants, pineapple and canteloupe okay- you will have had much better in your life but it tastes good in the dead of ny winter). Water- off tasting but we did not get sick at all from it. Sodas - especially diet all off tasting as well even directly from the soda fountain without ice. Lunch - we liked Arizonas and Guisseppes but buffet hit or miss most food average , not something you would go out of your way for; my wife felt most of the soups esp at guisseppes were among the better things. Nothing "bad" however and certainly no food poisoning or otherwise . Pizza and fries , grilled cheese, noodles, nuggets present at most buffets. Salads decent. desserts not good (except scooped ice cream by the diner/PI area; soft ice cream vanilla/ chocolate good available all day at diner/PI and arizonas-- machines at times went down) . French cafe had best desserts but nothing great, crepes in afternoon were good however, coffee drinks pretty good as well . Dinner- average about everywhere; only adults only place we ate was the french place and the food was better there (we planted the kids outside our dinner table watching shrek on movie night where we could see them but we could eat in the rstaurant on our own- no kids allowed and people were adhering to the dress code at these selected places- long pants , shoes for the guys). If ate at the nonbuffet for dinner (schooners at night had long lines if not there early and outside setting beautiful) the porions were fairly small (except the crab legs) but believe me you didnt want or need more. Kids place - "diner" -food for kids always happy , went there a few x a day each day for kids , pizza, fries, spaghetti, chips, ice cream ,cookies about 11am to late night everyday; staff there good, clean. The food available at the diner was the same type food elsewhere - for example the nachos there were the same as the nachos at arizonas the mexican restaureant for lunch/dinner (not that the nachos were bad but this is not a compliment) . Drinks - not big drinkers- only complaint is at dinner- about the only time we wanted a drink they would bring you one and though staff good in general you would need to track them down or get up yourself for more wine etc. Bartenders near pools all good, liked the hummingbird and other frozen drinks but doubt there was much liquor in it -although did not care and people were right could always ask fot extra shot etc. Turks beer fine. . Turtles bar in main bldng for best drinks- adults only , could take out. Best advice i got b4 trip-- can take out food from anywhere . adults only places .. wish we did that more and would recc if dont want to leave the kids. NIGHT SHOWS - fun for an hour or so at night with kids . Go to the french cafe get a cappucino and bring it to the show are 20 yards away and relax. The shows were basic and they certainly got the the guests involved if desired however something seemed wrong with the miss and mr thing/ teen contest but I'll leave that alone and it did get provide laughs POOLS - landscaping and pools beautiful. Pirates island- only 2 small slides but kids spent HOURS here and loved it and the swim up bar for milkshakes -staff great. Kids also liked the caves and pirates island and other pools. Pools clean , cool but nice . NOTE beach/pool chairs problematic. I think people are "reserving" chairs at several places as many chairs are unoccupied the entire day with towels on them-- especially some of the concierge guests from what i could see of "butlers"reserving chairs for essentially no one. Go early .. no later than 730 am . Only issue with pools was it seemed one pool a day was closed for cleaning and no schedule of such was displayed- would have been nice especially if you had set up chairs there. PI pool had to be cleaned once due to poop accident obviously not the resorts fault but the parents. BEACH -- THE REASON to be here and the reason we came. gorgeous , thanks potcake. OUTSTANDING snorkeing 10 minute walk to the left-- we saw barrucuda , 4 turtles. rays...Saw more at beach reef than beaches snorkeling boat ride although we enjoyed thAt too- sign up 1 day b4 . Note weather beautiful but windy some days and beach activities close if windy-- advice do stuff early in trip , can always do it again and you never know if youll have another chance . Water temp nice- prob about 75 degrees MISC- kids loved xbox room but hot inside and games down sometimes especially in the am. Full size chess- kids loved and played with others/made friends.Shuffleboard. basketball fun. Pingpong - equipment lacking. Beautiful clean grounds, after staying at the atlantis it seemed there should be fish in the many small ponds but that is just an obsevation. Stray cats - some some each day - am allergic to cats but they were not close to us, did hear what sounded like a "cat fight " one eve. Camps- cant comment didnt do, appeared to be okay but did not feel they were closely watching kids from what i saw. Pirates island is only place with lifeguard most of time . Place never seemed crowded except with beach chairs. towels available always. floats easy to get... OVERALL -- very nice vacation . Is it worth 8000 bucks with airfare for a week..no, what is? it is not ritz and you must know that going in or you will be quite unhappy. For FAMILIES however you cant do much better and the kids will in paradise(thats what vacations are for right) have fun

Just came back from turks and caicos
We loved it
We were really scared because of the bad reviews, but we loved it. It was clean and the staff was very polite and helpful. The only problem was there were alot of kids, I mean 90 percent of the hotel were families with young kids. I wouldn't go back because of that.

Just returned from Beaches Resort, spending 15 days there from 05/02/06 to 20/02/06 we can honestly say it was one of the best vacations we have taken, having travelled for the last 36 years all over the world to many Caribbean resorts including Sandals Resort Montego Bay ,Sandals Royal Caribbean, Sandals Negril, this was one of the best.We were greeted at the Airport taken to the resort in an older van, but fully acceptable plenty of room for passengers and luggage. Arrived at reception French Village , given drinks & booked in promptly. Rooms were excellent, cleaned every day Towels were plentiful and luxurious, turn down carried out each night even more clean towels. No smell at all in the room. The gardens were well maintained, with a lovely smell of Jasmine as you walk around, we visited other hotels around and found no grounds laid out as good as Beaches.
Pools were well maintained and the layout was very impressive.
Food was excellent wherever we chose to eat and we certainly had plenty of choice with no problems to get booked in any restaurant.Has for complaining about the drinks being watered down and weak we had no experience of this at all, we had the best drinks Black Label, Remy Martin. Bombay Saffire, Chivas , Courvossier, Henessy on the rocks or mixed with soft drinks to our liking.Staff were very friendly we had plenty of laughs with all of them especilly Fabian at Schooners, Simone at the Turtle Bar.Whilst on this vacation we had one member of our party celebrating his 65th birthday, guest relations LEANNE was fantastic she organised a table at the French Restaurant along with a delicious cake. Thanks Leanne, Princess ,Derrick for making this a holiday we will never forget. The only moaners we found on this holiday were the Americans complaing about most things , even a few Ants walking along the pathways with them, what do they expect when in the tropics.
We! like the last few holidaymakers had doubts about this resort on reading the bad reports from youve guessed it the "Americans" but glad we took no notice and visited this fantastic resort.Has for the lousy reports on the Trip Advisor from mainly Americans it makes you wonder what compensation they want next because after all thats all they must be thinking about when thay put in such bad reports on a resort that definately doesnt deserve it.
We would like to thank all the staff at Beaches Resort for such a fantastic holiday, we will recommend this to all our friends and cant wait to get back to visit you all again. Chris Gordon Jackie & Dave, West Midlands England

We have just returned from our trip to TCI and only have wonderful memories of the time we spent there. We were there 2/19 - 2/26 (President's week) which I'm sure is one of the busiest weeks of the year. Although it was crowded (expected) we felt that the resort handled the crowds in the best possible way. There are plenty of things to do and plenty of places to go that reduces the crowds in any one area. Our boys are 14 & 16 and honestly, we were a little nervous that there might not be other kids there their ages. But within the first day they met tons of friends their age and had a GREAT time the entire week. There was a 20 something resort employee that helped them all get together and constantly provided them with things to do. I can imagine that traveling with very young children would be difficult at a place like this. But excuse me...what did you expect traveling with very young children?
Our room was in the Salt Cay Villa and it was wonderful in every way. I do admit that we were very glad that our room was not on the French side of the resort. I'm sure the noise from the nightly entertainment would have been a bit of a downer. Also, it was very nice to be close to both the Cascade Pool (my favorite) and the beach.
The only bummer that we experienced was not the fault of the resort itself. You definately have to play the lounge chair game early in the morning (7:30-8:00 was fine for us even on the busiest week of the year) But my guess is that selfish people were simultaneously "saving" 4 chairs on both the beach and at the pool. Multiply every family by 8 and you run out of chairs quickly. 90% of the time most chairs were unoccupied. Not the fault of the resort! In fact, I'm sure that they would do somthing about it if they could. But unfortunately, the "it's all about ME" crowd is everywhere.
Overall...great food, great staff, great pools, great beach, great water activities. If you are the kind of person who understands how hard it is to run a resort like this on a Caribbean Island and doesn't expect mountains to move for you...you will have a wonderful time!

I just returned today 2/26/06 after spending 9 days there with my wife and three children (2,4,7). The thing is we get it,it's not supposed to be a Ritz Carlton or a Four seasons but for over $1000 a night this is what you can expect:
1)A room that may or may not be cleaned every day.
2)6 is the magic number...A.M. This is the time to stake your claim for a shaded spot on the beach, or P.M to stake your claim at the resorts best restaurant Schooners..miss it by more than 15 min and your kids are burnt that day eating at the buffet.
3) speaking of schooner's ..It opens at 8:00 for breakfast. We have kids! we're up early, would it kill you to open it an hr. earlier?
4) We have stayed at many caribbean resorts, On the 5th night a roach the size of a small mouse crawled on my wife's shoulder as she was sleeping ,after she totally freaked, and me killing it, we realized it probably found the mattress as uncomfortable as we did.
5) my boys puked for two days, maybe it was the poop that forced the closing of two of the pools while we were there ,or maybe it was the buffet?
6) on a lighter note, when we got home, my 4 yr. old put his empty plastic cup of milk on his head after guzzling it, "just like they did at the beer drinking contest at the french village pool"...nice.
7) Bring portable oxygen if you plan on eating at Kimonos or Reflections the ventilation systems leave a lot to be desired.
8)The ride to and from the airport..don't use up all the oxygen from above dinners..you'll need it for the rides.
9) $50 per week wireless internet access (You've got to be kidding)!
10) A room that had no dvd player (this is a kids resort ..right?) they probably don't supply it because they want you to realize how bad the t.v. reception is.
11) still can't figure out what was louder while lying in bed ...the ceiling fan or the mini fridge. either way , we had to shut both off at night.
