“Going back.”
Reviewed February 24, 2014

Enjoyed all aspects of our adventure. Very helpful staff. Mango restaurant grilled lobster was a real treat and indulged two evening. Walked to Mr. Grouper one evening were to outdoor setting and grouper was great. We went to the Thursday evening local fish fry and will skip that the next time back. Al, the conceire, was extremely helpful. I wanted to go someplace nice for our anniversary dining. He suggested Fire and Ice at their other resort. They provided a lemo to and a return. Enjoyed the evening with a fine meal and afterward sitting by the water around the fire pits. The pool was beautiful and hardly used. Plenty of beach chairs and umbrellas. The Beach chairs get uncomfortable after a while, but plenty of towels are supplied to use as padding. I'm old and fragile. We took the snorkel half day trip from Alexandra and brought back a conch shell for memories. Very much enjoyed our stay from our third floor pool and ocean view. We made the mistake of taking a bicycle to the IGA toward the airport. Bad move only to find out we went to the wrong IGA for our groceries. We also walked to the village as you walk left after the entrance.

Spent 5 nights at the end of January with some friends to celebrate my 50th birthday. Had the most perfect time. All the staff were so nice but a very special thank you to ALEXIS and MIKEY for making our trip extra perfect. What wonderful people you are!! The resort itself was clean and modern, and the beach was perfect. We did a lot of walking along the beach and we felt we were definitely in the best spot. The rooms were spotless, I was on the second floor and the view was great, (view not as good on the ground floor) The restaurant the Mango Reef was amazing. We also ate at Coco's bistro which was in an amazing setting, with excellent service and food, but all 9 of us felt the food and service at the Mango Reef was better. (We ate there twice). Thanks to Norman who managed to taxi 9 women to their dinner reservations and airport on time- no mean feat!! All in all, a wonderful place that we are all still talking about and wishing we were back there.

We too were at The Alexandra Resort during the ENTIRE ISLAND power outage.
The Hotel's Restaurant, The Mango Reef, was the ONLY restaurant open and they did a wonderful job! We tried several restaurants and loved the Mango Reef the BEST! Many appetizer choices, which we love, and delicious main courses at reasonable prices. You don't feel that you are getting ripped off! The morning after the blackout I was able to get coffee at the Bar and everyone was soooooo accommodating. Everyone hung in together, I felt. They even gave people plastic bags of Ice and put peoples ice packs in their fridge which was run by a Generator.I did not see anyone angry.

The one night without Air Conditioning was fine for us, as the weather was spectacular....
breeze and not humid. There also were emergency lights, in our Suite and in all of the outside
hallways. We even forgot about the blackout!!! Lanterns at the restaurant helped too!

Oh by the way, at the Reception they recharged your phone , had them hanging out of every socket they could! A nice touch!

We had a one bedroom 1 and another half bath Suite with washer and dryer. It was enormous! The kitchen was larger then many in New York City apartment kitchens! It was on the third floor and had a spectacular view! Our food stayed well in the fridge, if you don't open the door too much, like any other blackout situation.

The beach was gorgeous! Plenty of chairs set up, so you didn't have to get up at the crack of dawn to save them... AND umbrellas. Also you didn't have to have tips in your hand for getting towels and chairs, you just put the towels on an empty chair yourself. In our opinion this part of the beach was the best as it got narrower as you went to the left, to the right is beautiful also. The sand was white and soft, the water turquoise and spectacular!

The Alexandra is a low key hotel for young and older people alike.
We felt at home as soon as we arrived and found the Staff very friendly!

After returning back home to Snow I look at the photos of the beach and remember the wonderful time at The Alexandra. We will return!!!!

We had a very pleasant stay at the Alexandra Resort. Nicely located on Grace Bay, about a 1/2 hour walk down the beach to the village. We had a one bedroom, 1.5 baths, kitchen, dinning area and living room. We also had a very large patio overlooking the pool and the ocean. The service was great. Don't miss their restaurant the Mango Reef. Its a popular spot, even the locals dine there. You can reserve a table right on the sand for a romantic dinner evening. Turks is very expensive so this place isn't cheap but you can spend far more. I would return again.

Room Tip: Choose a room with a view of the ocean.

The best part of this hotel was the beach and the fact that you could easily get chairs and an umbrella! ( important for those of us who burn in 5 minutes!!). I have to admit that I expected a nicer room for what we paid! Don't get an ocean view studioroom unless it's not on ground level- great view into the hill of the beach, the sand fly bites were a bonus too- keep the windows shut at night. The power outage (over 24 hours) was fine but we lost our recently purchased groceries ($$$)- but hey that can happen at home too. Would have been nice if the staff or anybody actually explained to us what was going on -I thought they'd contact us or offer some compensation but no one ever did.
The beach and water were fantastic and we enjoyed the paddle boards and kayaks. It's a good resort for couples but you'll need to leave the resort at night as the only place to hang out is the restaurant. The restaurant food is quite good and we found the staff very friendly. They should look into some kind of meal plan - even just for breakfast. Have to admit that we've stayed at less expensive all-inclusive resorts that were much better than this but it's the nicest beach we've seen.

Thank you for staying at the Alexandra Resort, and for your positive feedback about our beach services and staff. We are sorry to learn that you were not fully satisfied with your visit. As you noted, you visited during the island wide power outage, which caused some challenging situation for management. We did distribute flyers to every guest suite in an effort to keep guests informed of what was happening, however our communication efforts were also reliant on the information we received from the power company. Yes, sand fleas are an annoyance throughout the Caribbean. All of our patio doors and windows have screens, so you can enjoy leaving doors open if you keep the screens closed. We do offer a B&B option for our guests, which we hope you will consider for a future visit. Due to the fact that all of our suites have kitchen facilities, and the majority of our guests enjoy dining at the many fabulous restaurants on Provo, we do not offer an all-inclusive plan. We do hope you will stay with us again.

IMHO, everything in Provo/Grace Bay is terribly overpriced. I paid $400 for one night here and the room was just okay. The staff and grounds were not bad, not great. The pool is nice and the restaurant has an unreal view on the beach, but we didn't eat there. We stayed a few nights at the Royal West Indies and everything about it was light years better to me.

Room Tip: I got a beach front and had a corner view of the ocean, pool, and restaurant. View was nice...

We appreciate receiving your review and we regret that we did not fully meet your expectations during your brief stay at the Alexandra Resort. Our suites are some of the most affordably priced accommodations on Grace Bay Beach and a stay at the resort include many complimentary amenities. We would welcome an opportunity to help you experience the tremendous value offered at our resort if you visit Turks & Caicos again.

We arrived Saturday afternoon (Feb. 8), a little less than 24 hours before the power outage that others have mentioned. We rented an oceanfront studio (directly from the owner) on the 3rd floor of the Chelsea building, which is between the reception/concierge building and Mango Reef restaurant. The view was fabulous, and the studio was more than adequate for 2 people, including a cooktop, microwave, and refrigerator. It didn't have a washer/dryer, but we didn't seem to miss it. The only downside was the close proximity to noise from the restaurant, but with the doors closed and the ceiling fan on, it was not a big deal.

The 30-hour power outage was an inconvenience, but not nearly what we thought it would be. My husband is very impatient about things like that, and even he commented that it really didn't impact our stay too much. I can see that traveling with a family might be more difficult under those circumstances, but we had purchased groceries Saturday evening, which were all still unspoiled in the refrigerator after the outage. We even still had ice in the freezer. So unlike others' experiences, the power outage was more of a minor inconvenience for us. And I also have to commend the staff for doing the best they could. We had Sunday evening reservations on the beach at Mango Reef during the outage, and the service and food didn't miss a beat. It was one of our best meals on the island. The Monday evening manager's reception also went on as planned, complete with music, drinks, and dance contests. The power came back on toward the end of the manager's reception, to everyone's applause.

We planned to use the pool, but ended up spending all of our time at the beach, so I can't comment too much on the pool, but it looked nice and relaxing. The beach was fantastic - wider than a lot of nearby properties (wide enough for three rows of chairs/umbrellas), chairs not stacked on top of each other like Beaches and some others, complimentary water sports equipment to use (we took advantage of snorkel gear, paddle boards, and noodles/rafts). The only downside was no beach service for food and drink, but Mango Reef is right on the beach, so it was easy to order and pick up food. We had purchased our own beverages that we brought to the beach, so it was not a big inconvenience. We thoroughly enjoyed the beach, and while we did usually reserve our chairs by about 9am to get ones closest to the water, there were chairs available at all times during our stay.

We found the staff to be very friendly. We had a long wait for toilet paper and towels a couple of times (they seemed to be replenished scantily, so you run out quickly), but other than that, everyone was always smiling and accommodating. The first day we were there, one of the grounds workers even cut down a coconut and cut it open for us on the way to the beach. I also left a jacket in our closet, and the front desk attendant put me on hold while she personally went to our room to get it, and is working to get it mailed to me. I would not hesitate to stay at The Alexandra on our next visit to the island!

We are pleased to read that you had an enjoyable vacation and thank you for acknowledging the efforts of our team during the power outage. We also appreciate you bringing the lack of food and beverage service on the beach to our attention. While Mango Reef is an independent operator, we will work with them to ensure that food and beverage service is consistently made available on the beach. We will also follow up with our housekeeping department to ensure that replenishment of supplies is done promptly.
