“Average Resort”
Reviewed March 26, 2013

My husband and I recently spent five nights at the Alexandra Resort on Grace Bay, and my overall takeaway is that it is an average resort. It is evidently a mix of hotel, timeshare, and condo units, but we booked it like a regular hotel. The pros: the beach at the Alexandra is rather deep and wide compared to the beaches of some of the other properties on Grace Bay; the Mango Reef restaurant on the property is rather good and quite popular; the wireless internet worked well in our room and on the beach. The cons: the property seemed a bit dated and unimpressive; the workout facility consisted of a few weight machines, one elliptical, one bike, and one rather old treadmill all crammed into what appeared to be a one-bedroom unit on the back of the property; our room was not particularly lush or well-appointed; the bathroom was TINY. Granted, we stayed in a ocean front studio because that was all that was available on those dates, but the layout of the room really made it seem cramped. Overall, I think the Alexandra is probably a good value, but there are nicer accomodations on Grace Bay that in hindsight I wish we had investigated.

Thank you for your recent stay at the Alexandra Resort. We appreciate the positive aspects of the resort that you described in your review - we do indeed occupy one of the best stretches of Grace Bay Beach and offer excellent value for a four star beachfront resort. We are very sorry to learn that the resort did not meet your expectations, particularly that our 550 square foot oceanfront studio was too small. We continue to introduce new services and amenities, so we do hope that you will consider the resort again for a future visit and that next time we will have available one of our spacious one or two bedroom suites or perhaps our four bedroom penthouse!

My wife and I recently spent 5 nights at the Alexandra Resort along with some close friends of ours. We have all been trying to get together and do a trip like this for several years now. We ended up choosing Turks and Caicos and the Alexandra Resort based on a recommendation by a close friend and we were not disappointed. Turks and Caicos and the Alexandra were exactly what we were looking for. The island was a very short flight from the East Coast and the Alexandra was only about 15 minutes from the airport, if that. We had 3 couples in our group so my wife and I stayed in a standard guestroom and the other 2 couples shared a 2 bedroom suite. Our room was nice but I'm honestly not someone who cares too much about the quality of the sleeping room at a place like this because you spend so little time in the room. If it has a bed and a shower, I'm good. One thing I did find a little odd about the room was that there were no drawers to put clothes in. My wife and I hung a few items but for the most part we lived out of our suitcase for the week because there was no place to put the clothes. Again, not a big deal overall because we were barely in the room. I just thought it was a little strange. The 2 bedroom suite that my friends had was really nice. We spent a lot more time in their room than ours because of the large balcony and because of the full kitchen. We went to the IGA when we got there and stocked up on breakfast foods, snacks, coffee, beer, wine, etc. so it was nice to have the kitchen. Overall the resort was great though. All of the positive things I read about the beach and the water was completely true. It is definitely one of the most beautiful places I have ever been. Staff was great, plenty of beach chairs available every day, Mango Reef was outstanding for lunch and dinner and it is only a short walk to other restaurants along Grace Bay. Overall I could not have been any more happy with our vacation. It was the first time that we have taken a trip like this with a group of our friends (minus our kids!) and based on the amazing time we had I hope it becomes an annual event. I also look forward to bringing my kids to Turks and Caicos and the Alexandra in the future.

Alexandra Resort exceeded my expectations from begining to end especially for the price. We were greeted at the apirport by a resort rep who assisted with getting us into a taxi. We chose a garden view studio which had a beautifull view of the ocean beyond the pool/grounds. The room was very clean and updated. Cofffee is provided in the room which I wasn't expecting. All the staff from the front desk, beach and restaurant were wonderful, very friendly and service was excellent. The resort was busy but not overwhelmingly so. Beach is wonderful with plenty of chairs and umbrellas. Great restaurants you can walk to along the beach. Had a wonderful time and looking forward to a return visit.

Room Tip: garden view studio on the second floor had a view of ocean in the distance.

We just returned from 9 days at the Alexandra in Turks & Caicos. We rented a condo through VRBO as it was half the price of going direct through the resort for the same condo category. We had a 1 bedroom, 1 1/2 bath unit in the Marilyn building that had a very large balcony overlooking the pool with the ocean in the distance. It had a full kitchen and two TVs- the separate bathroom was nice. The furnishings and fixtures were all relatively new and comfortable.

The property was clean and well-kept. There were always people working on the grounds. It was easy to get chairs on the beach or at the pool, towels were always accessible, and they offered all types of equipment to use: snorkeling gear, toys for the kids, sea kayaks, etc. We also played tennis once and they provided all the equipment. The pool was lacking a bit- it was cold and though it had a pool bar, there was no alcohol set up there- they just brought you drinks from the attached indoor bar. Nobody used it, it was in the shade most of the day.

This resort feels like a motel on the outside- not very attractive at the entrance, but the units are nice. There are not typical "resort" activities during the day- it's very quiet. One great feature - location. You can walk to either side- the restaurants and shopping areas to the right and the snorkeling to the left. You can take the beach or walk along the street side at the front of the hotels and be into town in 15 minutes. It felt very safe. The staff at this resort was terrific. Every person you walked past smiled and said hello and asked how you were doing. We had particularly good service from Darren at check-in/check-out as well as Johnson at Mango Reef. Oh- Mango Reef- probably the best feature of this resort. We had lunch there once and dinner twice. Open ravioli, conch fritters, Lobster Curry. Just delicious! And a decent value in this expensive area.

We rented a car for a couple of days to drive around the Island. Went to Taylor Bay in the Chalk Sound area, and Turtle Cove. We also went to Blue Hills to visit Sailing Paradise. We had a great meal there and the staff was VERY friendly. Beautiful location right on the beach and off the beaten path of the Gracy Bay Area. Conch fritters, Jerk Pork, Fish Tacos and of course, Rum Punch! While in T&C, we ate at a ton of restaurants. Coco Bistro (delicious- go!), Magnolias (good- pretty view of the harbor), Yoshis (Very good), Mango Reef (excellent), Anacoana (very good- lobster tasting menu- very expensive), Grill Rouge (just ok), Hemingways (our least favorite), Somewhere (excellent happy hour specials- food and drinks and live music on the beach), Caicos Cafe (very good- lobster fra diablo).

The beaches were the most beautiful part of T&C. Clear, blue water, warm and nice flat sand for walking. There is not much shopping or other things to do. We did go snorkeling off the beach at Bight Reef- Coral Gardens. The first day we saw tons of fish and even a turtle. The second day was busier and we didn't see as much. Go late afternoon when the crowds leave. This island is VERY expensive. Grocery stores are pricey for standard items. (OJ- $6.50, English muffins-$7.00, a 6-pack of beer $12-$19). If you like tequila, bring your own. It's very expensive here. It was a peaceful and relaxing holiday- but if you like more activity or higher end resorts, this probably isn't the best location for you. It definitely has a 'beach' feel. We have been to several AI resorts in Mexico, Dominican Republic, Jamaica, etc. and found this area to be quieter and pricier. But beautiful, and probably the best beaches we have ever seen.

Room Tip: Ocean front would be great if you can swing it. But if not, make sure to get a room on the 3rd floo...

Thank you for your recent visit. We will share your compliments with the team, who work very hard to provide exceptional service. Thanks also for pointing out the great food and value offered at Mango Reef. Your observation about grocery store prices is correct - food prices across the Caribbean have increased, and we are working hard to help guests offset these vacation costs in other areas, such as offering a daily grocery store shuttle for a nominal fee, and an optional B&B plan at Mango Reef for a terrific price. When you plan your next visit please check the specials page on the resort's web site. You'll find great offers that are usually very competitive to VRBO pricing. In addition, our guests benefit from extra services such as daily maid service and the complimentary weekly manager's cocktail reception. We appreciate your review and hope you will stay with us again.

Great staff, everyone is super friendly and helpful, the grounds are beautiful and there is constant upkeep being done to the gardens to keep everything looking super. Mango Reef, the restaurant is excellent, great food for very reasonable (by island standards) prices. Having the snorkel equipment available right on the beach as well as the bikes that the resort provides at no additional cost is super convenient and just adds another layer of relaxation to the vibe of the island. You can walk to many other restaurants from the Alexandra, it's very centrally located in the middle of the resort area. There is a great reef for snorkeling just down the beach, about a 10 minute walk or you can sign up for a half day or full day snorkel adventure with the dream tours, located right on the beach at the Alexandra, we did the half day trip and it was amazing!!!! We also rented a car for one day, they dropped it off for us at the hotel and then came back and picked it up as well, super easy. We basically used the car to poke around the island and snorkel at turtle cove, this was one of the highlights of the trip, great beach, only a few other people there, and terrific snorkeling. Da Conch Shack is also a must do, a tiny restaurant on the other side of the island, so yummy and a view that is to die for! We loved Turks and Caicos and can't wait to return, will definitely stay at the Alexandra again, big beautiful rooms and amazing service, can't be beat!

Room Tip: get a room facing the ocean, preferably not on the first floor because there is a sand dune that may...

When I'm on an island, I don't want to feel like I'm staying in NYC. This is a very cute hotel on an island. The "resort" in the name is a little bit of a stretch. There is a pool with a pool bar and the beach is right there. There aren't a lot of "resort" activities except for a one hour managers reception. There are no daily activities. It also doesn't have a gift shop or store to buy forgotten items. No worries though, right next door is a resort with shops. We are rarely in the room so it was a perfect size for two. We also don't cook on vacation because we are ON vacation. :-)

The Alexandra was very accommodating. The check in and check out was painless. The people who work here are very, very nice. Remember to say good morning/afternoon/evening before asking questions. The maid service was great. The food at the Mango Reef was yummy. Drinks... tons to choose from. It's not a five star but if you are there to enjoy a good meal, drink while relaxing on the beach or by the pool, this is a good choice. Remember, you're on an island. Service is on island time, not on NYC time. Sit back and enjoy.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Prima Donna Building and the view from the room was nice. If you look down, we saw...

Thank you for your recent visit to the Alexandra Resort. You are correct in noting that this is a quiet property that does not offer a lot of "organized" activities. However for the information of other readers we do wish to point out that there are a number of other amenities at the resort that include complimentary use of tennis courts, Spa Sanay, Caicos Dream Tours (boating and snorkelling excursions depart direct from resort), complimentary use of non motorized water sports, and complimentary use of pedal bikes and helmets. Some of the best snorkelling in the world in a short walk away down one of the top ranked beaches in the world, golfing and horseback riding are about a 10 minute drive away, and younger guests will enjoy pelican Kids' Club, which is open from 9am until 1pm and offers games, crafts and water based activities. We will share your kind comments about service with the other members of the team. We hope you will stay with us again in the future.

I used this hotel often for business and this time I used it for family as well to have a vacation. The location is great rather central for me and right on Grace Bay. Yoiu can walk foir miles and take in several area restuarants. The staff are always friendly and accommodating. In particular our room was kept spotless by a wonderful lady named Lucilia. We were extremely happy with the way she cared for us an adjusted her schedule to ours.

We wilkl definitely be back to this hotel/prporty again. Of course the added bonus of the Mango Reef restaurant makes it a real winner.
