“25th anniversary with Hurricane Irene”
Reviewed August 29, 2011

We went to Turks to celebrate our 25th anniversary but to our suprise Hurricane Irene arrived on our special day.....!
The staff at the Alexandra always kept us informed with letters, voicemail if we were out, moved us from oceanfront rooms to pool view as a precaution, gave us flashlights in case the power went out..and it did. Besides the inconvenience of this hurricane we truly enjoyed our time, the rooms exceeded our expectations ! Sure there are other more glamourous resort, but this was perfect location and on the most beautiful beach.

My husband and I stayed here for one night in August, before taking a ferry out to Middle Caicos for the week (we generally enjoy more private vacations). We had read the reviews and anticipated a nice place to stay for a night; we were extremely pleased with our experience. We were greeted very warmly, given a welcome glass of rum punch, much appreciated after the plane ride, customs line, taxi, etc. All of the amenities were explained to us even though we were only staying the one evening. When we got to our room, we found it to be very clean!, and fairly spacious. If we were staying longer, it would have been very nice to have such space. The room had a small kitchenette, a washer and dryer, a large bathroom and a nice balcony. And again, very, very clean.
We had a nice late lunch at the Mango Reef pool bar, where our waiter/bartender was extremely friendly and provided fantastic service as well as great local advisement (i.e. where to find a grocery on a Saturday afternoon within walking distance, etc.). Later, we enjoyed a couple drinks beach side and regretted our late lunch as the waiters brought by dish after delicious looking and smelling dish to the lucky diners. We even met one couple who told us they followed the recently relocated Mango Reef restaurant from their last location to the Alexandra.
The beach out front of the hotel is well kept and beautiful. The grounds were well manicured and structures well maintained (not the case for all the nearby hotels). And though it may seem a minor thing, I do believe I had the Best (obviously fresh squeezed) orange juice in the am from the Mango Reef.
We were so impressed with the Alexandra; we stopped again on our way back from Middle Caicos to the airport in Provo, to have lunch, where we had the same great waiter/bartender and great service, food and relaxing atmosphere. (Which, as a side note, turned out to be a good idea vs. lunching at the crazy crowded airport where everyone was still trying to get home after being “stranded” during hurricane Irene).
We are not “resort” people by preference, but if we were to be, this is a fantastic choice.

We just returned from a 6 night stay at The Alexandra. It was AWESOME! We weren't sure where we wanted to stay on Provo, but we knew we wanted a certain type of place. The Alexandra matched our requirements perfectly!

First off, we knew we wanted NO BEACH PEDDLERS! And we got it! We were only approached once by a guy doing parasailing, but he backed off once we said no. I'm pretty sure if we HAD wanted our hair braided, cheap crappy souvenirs, or a booze cruise, we came to the wrong island. We took several walks along the beach, passed many other hotels, and didn't see any.

Another requirement we had was peaceful, with minimal families vacationing. We're not heartless beasts; we just wanted a more adult environment. Again, we got it. Beaches, from what we heard, is the way to go if you want to bring families.

The next requirement was the ability to explore outside the resort and feel safe. We were totally able to do that. We took many walks both down the beach and on the street, and felt very safe.

Another plus was the fact that the whole Grace Bay area wasn't crowded at all. We're figuring this is because it's an extremely hot time of year there, and trust me, it was HOT. But this made it so easy to get a table at restaurants, no problem getting chairs at the beach, etc.

These things I mentioned seem not related to the Alexandra itself, but that's probably because the place itself was so similar to all of the other hotels we walked through, which are all on the same strip of beach (Regent Palms, Sands, Regent Grand, Veranda, Seven Stars). They can all easily be visited, and in fact, you could probably use some of their facilities and go completely unnoticed by the staff of these places. In other words, you might as well stay at the less expensive place, which was just as beautiful!

The staff was super friendly, helpful, and kind. The food at the Mango Reef restaurant was delicious! Oh, and don't bother with the shuttle to the IGA. Go to the Graceway Gourmet instead. So much nicer!

The only downfall of the Alexandra, which really wasn't a big deal, is the location. It's not near any shopping at all. You can walk to some down by the Regent Grand, but if you don't like to walk or don't want to get a cab, you might want to try a hotel closer to the middle of Grace Bay.

All in all, we had a fantastic time, and we are definitely going back!!

We spent 8 days at the Alexandra and loved everything about the resort. The room, the views, the food at Mango's and the staff were fabulous. The beach was quiet, they had bar service on the beach most days. Mango's deck was overlooking the beach where we had lunch several times. The rooms and the property were very well maintained. We had a pv/ov studio and it was perfect for the 2 of us. It had a small fridge, microwave, sink, coffemaker and a washer and dryer. The staff was wonderful and very pleasant all the time. We will definitely return to Provo and the Alexandra. There were 5 adults in our group looking for relaxation on a quiet beach and we found it.

Great location. 2 bedroom 3 bath property was very big. The balcony and view were superb. Awesome location. It is a smaller resort, so more relaxed and quiet. Yet, the larger resorts are very close. Perfect place.

Through the years, we have vacationed throughout the Caribbean at a number of different islands -- and have truly enjoyed ourselves. But Turks & Caicos is the best ever................... and a big part of that was the Alexandra Resort. It was awesome in all aspects............... from the courteous resort staff to the beautiful beach and its magnificent sand. The restaurant on site, the Mango Reef, was top-shelf............ especially the fresh fish entrees, peas & rice and the homemade ice cream. One could not have asked for better weather, with a continuous breeze and beautiful ocean setting providing a relaxing, fun-filled atmosphere. I loved my room and the view from my balcony overlooking the pool and ocean................. it was picture perfect. Contrary to some other reviews that I saw beforehand, I found the locals very friendly and very helpful no matter what the situation. Some other restaurants that I would recommend would be Hemmingway's, Baci Ristorante and Chinnson's. We truthfully had an amazing vacation -- and I definitely believe that we will be returning to this paradise in the Caribbean. And should we do so, I look forward to my next stay at the Alexandra. It was perfect in every way! I'll be back!
