After an exhaustive search to find the perfect accommodation for the best price, we settled on the Sands and couldn't be happier... While there, I visited my other considerations, like Royal West Indies, and while its a very nice looking hotel, there is a huge hotel being constructed next door, with all the construction noise... The Sands seems to be one of the only hotles left on the island that has no other hotle on either side and no construction in its close vicinity. For me, this was important.

The beach itself was gorgeous. The resort was well maintained and very attractive. Our maid came by 1-2 times a day. leaving fresh towels, water and always cleaned up the kitchen. Plus the occasional turn-down service.

Can't go wrong here.

We came in late at night, so we could not see the view from our studio room. When we woke up in the morning, the view was disappointing. The ocean view room in building 2 has very little, if at all view of the ocean on the second floor. The water is behind palms trees, and very far away. The staff was unhelpful in resolving the issue, but at the end we moved to building three on the first floor. Which was another disappointment because the bed was very uncomfortable and the view of the water was to the side in another room. (the bedroom is the first room you walk-in and the living room is on the back).
My advice, forget about the view of the water and go to the beach. DON’T PAY EXTRA; really it is not worth it. Really, it is not worth it.
The beach is wonderful and the food everywhere is great. The restaurant at the Palms was amazing.
Don’t use shuttle to the airport, get a taxi is cheaper.

We were really impressed by the staff, facilites and location of the Sands at Grace Bay where we spent Christmas 06. Right from the start all the desk, restaurant, beach and cleaning staff were really hospitality service oriented. They were all so nice and made our Christmas special.

We lived in two units as we extended our stay we were having so much fun. Both units were great. May not be a bad place there.

Nothing beats the Grace Bay beach and we have sailed throughout the Caribbean for the last three years. Okay, maybe Barbuda! The reef protects theh beach from the Atlantic winds so sailing the Hobie is sheer fun.

We would love to go back some day.

  • Liked — all the resort staff were geared to guests having a great stay.
  • Disliked — They could use more bicycles that work.

The Sands was a great resort! The suites are great and include a full kitchen and a washer and dryer as well. The rooms are very clean and the suites overall are very spacious. The restaurant on site is called Hemingway's. The food was very good at this restaurant. There are quite a few other options to choose from outside of the resort. I did not have a bad meal the entire time I was there. I will say that Provo is not inexpensive. Eating out can add up. But, you're on vacation so why not splurge a little!?! It's reasonable. I just would not call it cheap.
The beach is the very best part of the resort. It is beautiful!!!!! The sand feels like powder. The water is warm, calm and crystal blue. You can see everything. The people are very friendly as well. Overall, the Sands is a great option. And, I will definitely return.

Well thanks to the great feedback, tips, suggestions etc from tripadvisor members we had yet another wonderful vacation in Provo!

Let's see. We are a family of 2 adults, 2 children ages 7 & 12 and grandmom age 64. Just my husband and I were in Provo in 2005. We stayed at The Sand's then and decided to stay there again this trip. We have traveled to Grand Cayman, St. Lucia, Dominican and Virgin Gorda. Provo is one of our favorite places so far!

We flew an uneventful flight out of JFK landing in Provo around 11:30am on Sat. the 16th. Immigration and customs went much quicker than expected. (word to the wise, you need both the blue customs form (just one per family name) and the white immigration card (one per person). If the airline runs out of them in flight then you can get them as soon as you enter the airport to the right hand side. You need to have them completed PRIOR to getting to the window for your turn....so pack some pen's!

The Sand's loaded us onto a van/taxi and paid for our transportation to the resort (this was already in our original package). We arrived there by 12:15pm. We knew our room wouldn't be ready but we did all of the paperwork and went to grab a bite to eat at Hemmingways.. Hemmingways was great but very slow for lunch. I honestly believe they knew our room wasn't ready so they figured why feed us quick. We had no where to go anyway!

At quick check back at the desk and they had our room ready and we were in it and unpacking by 1:30pm. We had reserved a 3 bedroom oceanview condo. What we got made our day! It was a two bedroom, two bath condo with full kitchen, dining room, livingroom and large oceanview balcony along with an adjoining door to a studio unit with a full bathroom, small kitchenette, king bed, sitting area with TV and another private balcony. This setup made grandmom VERY happy! Our unit was clean, well maintained and bug free. They cleaned it daily before noon, turned our beds down nightly, recleaned our bathrooms and left us fresh bottled water.

The Sand's ground, gardens and pools were a delight. We loved the beach of gracebay. It was never crowded outfront of the resort and if we couldn't get a little tiki hut then the cabana guy quickly put up an umbrella for us and brought over chairs for our party of 5. We loved the kayaks, hobie cat and even tried our hand a windsurfing (unsuccessfully!).

We rented a small honda accord for the week $264 from Gracebay Car Rental. They brought it to us by 3pm the first day and we were able to get to the IGA, restaurants, Sapodilla bay, Taylors bay, mini golf, the semisubmersible submarine, etc without paying the taxi fees that can really add up when you are a party of 5.

We dined at Hemmingways for dinner on day one. Services was much better at dinner and the food/kids menu was great!

We did Magnolia's. We were not impressed this time around. Last time we loved, loved, loved it but this time....no! The food was only mediocre for the price. There was no children's menu and the waiter/gentleman that waited on us was clearly annoyed that we had brought our two very well behaved children to the 6:30pm seating. The pasta with red sauce was $18 PER KID!!!! No sunset that night or any other night for that matter. There were beautiful blue skies with clouds and somehow every night the sun found the clouds to set behind!

Sharkbites was decent bar food with a good kids menu. We went for lobster night Tuesday only to be told lobster season is closed until August 1st!

Tiki hut for chicken and rib wednesday night was great. $12.95 for a great meal and they have an extensive kids menu.

Mango Reef was nice. The food was very good and they had a kids menu. What we didn't like was the fact that the restaurant sits right on the pool deck edge and people were in the pool throwing fresbees, cursing and being quite obnoxious while we were trying to dine. I think next time i would ask for a seat on the back patio area away from the pool.

Gecko Grill by far was my favorite meal. They have a great kids menu, lovely atmosphere and the food was just wonderful. We were disappointed because we went for Jazz night but the Jazz guy was off island that night! (figures!)

The Grill at Grace Bay Club was just lovely. A very pretty setting, nice service, a kids menu and good food. They have very nice pannini's and some grilled meals. Not too extensive of a menu but has a little something for everyone and at a very fair price.

We did a kayaking tour with Big Blue Unlimited. It was a blast. We went through the mangroves, across to little water cay and half moon beach. Overall a very nice 4 hour trip. Definitely recommend it.

We did the semisubmarine trip out of turtle cove. Wonderful, Wonderful, Wonderful. Saw two turtles inches from the window, saw stingrays, tons of fish, beautiful corals and it was all narrated by Betty as her husband Alistar drove the sub. My youngest got to sit in the front seat and be the "turtle spotter". It just made his week.

Snorkeled Coral Gardens. It was loaded with stingrays, two good size barracuda, lots of beautiful fish. We drove down to save grandmom and the kids energy but you could definitely walk it from The Sands.

Spend a morning at Sapodilla Beach. Were the only people out there. What fun! Warm, shallow and crystal clear.

Wondered over to Taylors Beach one afternoon. Meet a family staying in a rental unit there and enjoyed their company. Taylors beach is very lovely also and worth a visit.

The MiniGolf place up on leeward highway is a lot of fun. The kids loved it. They have a bar with bar food available and do Karaoke at night. You should see some of the local talent on the island...unbelievable singers! We just had so much fun we hated to board our plan to come home. We can't wait to return to Provo and The Sand's. It had everything we needed for a wonderful family vacation.

We honeymooned at the Sands in October 2004, and after the vacation disaster we just had last week to the Dominican we had decided that the Sands is the best trip we have ever had. Dont let the Hurricane season fear mongers scare you if you are planning a fall trip - we had perfect weather for 8 days and not one drop of rain. Was absolutely the best time of our lives.

Do not miss Bacci Grill and their Vodka Pasta sauce, and I think Wednesday nights the Tiki Hut has ribs and chicken - also worth mentioning the food on this trip was the best food weve ever had travelling.

If you are on the fence, go for it - you will not be disappointed.

What a wonderful stay for the dollars and the scenery. If you haven't been to Turks and Caicos Islands (TCI), Providenciales and/or Grace Bay then you must put it on your agenda immediately. Now if you're looking for a resort that is not overly crowded, has good food and at a reasonable price, the Sands is the place to be.

LOCATION:
Located slightly east of the mid-point on Grace Bay, this resort has the ocean at it's fingertips. The beach is immaculate with turquoise clarity water, ultra-fine sand almost near white in color, and spacious-ness not to provide annoyance from surrounding resorts.

PRICE:
We paid $200/night for a room on the ground floor in building 3 facing the pool.

ROOM:
The suite had 3 rooms including a bedroom, bathroom, and living room with a small kitchenette. Since we weren't there to spend time in our room, it fit our expectations exactly. The room appeared to be recently renovated with a wood/bamboo finish on most of the walls and furniture. The entire room had a white tile floor with some area-rugs. There were two TV's (Bedroom/Living Room) with approximately 60 channels including BBC, CTV, Local Miami Station, Local NYC Station, and Local Chicago Station.

There were some minor aesthetic issues including a noisy A/C, thin walls (which you could hear babies crying), outlet covers missing, and some grout on the shower tiles, but everything else appeared to be in crisp order.

SERVICE:
The service was efficient if not courteous. No one was ever rude however some people just worked harder then others. My hats off to Edward, one of the pool attendants who also helped manage the water sports areas. He took a full hour to help my girl friend and I learn how to wind surf, even chasing my GF out to see when she got the hang of it but couldn't stop. He had so much patience with us (naturally we tipped him). Front Desk was nice and average by my standards although they did serve us a free Rum Punch when we checked in (granted in a plastic cup).

FOOD:
Hemingway's did not let us down one bit. The food was better then average and the menu had enough to choose from without being over bearing. The prices are high ($9 for a bagel sandwich) but everything in TCI was expensive. At least I know that when I went to Hemingway's, I was ordering quality food. Additionally, the waitress would walk to the beach once a half hour to get drink orders for those laying around under the permanently fixed bamboo umbrellas.

Additionally above, we checked out Coco Bistro and HIGHLY recommend it . It is pricey but has an exquisite selection of Caribbean meals. The restaurant is in this very secluded garden but it does not overlook the water.

We did also eat at Calico Jack's which was mainly a bar with some tables. We happened upon CJ's after getting lost one night. They did have a band that plays every Friday. The 4-piece band played a mix of Caribbean and top 40 songs. This place was absolutely packed out with locals and definitely hopping. Only a 10 minute walk from the Sands.

If you are in to Sushi, Yoshi's is about 5 minutes away and serves up good types of sushi however again, quite expensive.

Finally, we had a lunch down the bay at the Orchid Restaurant which was part of the Alexandra Resort. Minimalist menu (maybe 10 items) of which I had the jerk chicken sandwich (good lunch choice).

AMENITIES:
The Sands offered free shuttle to and from the airport. They had free Wi-Fi in the hospitality lounge only however this was also the place where there were two internet terminals (Free), the gym, and the spa. The two free-form pools were clean and well kept, which were a nice break from the ever salty ocean. Finally, all the water sport equipment was free to use (just needed to check it out). This included: Noodles, Sand Castle buckets, wind-surfing board, 2 hobies (sail boats), 2 kayaks, rafts, inner tubes, and towels.

You could pay $800 a night for an all inclusive, but why would you?? The sands is perfectly situate for all your needs.
