Newer hotel - well maintained. Quiet location.
Minor repairs made quickly when requested.
Mattresses could use replacement.
There is a spa on-site.
Convenience store on site & 1/2 hr. walk to grocery store which stocks gluten-free products.
Flat rate p.p. taxis take you where you would like to go and to grocery store.
Beautiful beach and pools.
Hemingway's on site has a good dining.
I would love to go back

This is a long overdue review!
We stayed at The Sands last December 2012, along with most of our guests for our beach wedding next door at Bay Bistro. We, along with all of our guests found The Sands to be a very nice property sitting on one of the most gorgeous beaches I have ever seen. If you are reading this, you have no doubt either already experienced or heard about the incredible turquoise water and the clean, white sand that is as soft as flour. It is even more beautiful in person than in photos!
The Sands staff were all great, we spoke with them often in the months leading up to our wedding and they were always helpful. In person everyone was super "Island Friendly". From our rum punch upon arrival to our departure, everyone was awesome. We stayed in one of the ocean front suites, which was quite large and had everything we needed and then some. Our guests stayed in a variety of rooms, from the studios to two bedrooms and all of them were very nice. The pool and grounds were lovely with island landscaping. Hemingways was a very chill bar/restaurant on the property that was great as many of our guests enjoyed quite a few meals there. Also, if you are considering having a beach wedding at The Bay Bistro this is a perfect location as it is a very short walk down the beach. Cabs are super pricey there so this was a huge benefit.
Overall, we had the best time at The Sands! The price was great (especially compared to many other hotels in Turks and Caicos) and our wedding was a dream come true on a breathtaking beach!

Grace bay is an awesome area with wonderful beaches, water sports and restaurants. The Sands puts you in the middle of all of it and the hotel is adequate throughout but won't wow you. Also considering the price point of the surrounding resorts it is priced well.

The beachfront associated with the Sands was great and the restaurant was fine however the facilities are a little dated and the service was lacking.

The sands had all of the basics of a good resort at a decent price compared to the rest of the resort hotels on the island. It has a concierge, restaurant/bar, spa & gym, multiple pools, beach set up, drink service on the beach and free usage of some ocean activities (sail boat, kayaks etc.). If I had to compare to a well known chain hotel, I would probably say it is comparable to a Sheraton as far as luxury & accommodations. I am extremely picky with hotels but I felt comfortable staying here.

Pro's:
-Clean & decently appointed rooms (albeit slightly worn)
-Our room had a small kitchenette
-On site restaurant, drink service on the beach
-Hammock grove by building 1 that no one tends to use (very relaxing!)
-Location, location location - less than a 10 minute walk to nearby shops & restaurants and a 15 minute walk to a grocery store
-Really good internet service in the room (you can also get some service at the pools & restaurant but not beach)
-If you are a couple, there were not a ton of families with small children

Con's:
-No food service on the beach
-No room service
-Beach chairs could use some refreshing (they were the plastic band kind and you would sink in between the bands)
-Beach towels were pretty small and while clean, stains were frequently not washed out
-A pipe burst our first night there so we did not have water until the next morning
-Staff was not super friendly, no one was rude, just not overly friendly, kind of like the opposite of excited (there were some friendly standouts, this was just the overall general feeling we got)

Tips:
-Make sure you go to the bank beforehand and get change for a lot of small bills - there is a lot of tipping from the moment you step off the plane and NO ONE will give you change
-Cabs are super expensive so again bring cash (although they do have ATM's there but they give you very large bills, 50's was the smallest we got)
-If you want to go more than a 10 minute car ride from your resort, rent a car in advance for that excursion
-Don't pay to take the shuttle to the grocery store, it's definitely walkable, just bring a backpack to put your groceries in for the walk back
-Everything is very expensive on the island so set your expectations
-Airport is absolutely horrible, worst airport I've been to so far (going home, coming was fine), bring food with you if you have a long flight or wait time
-There is a lot of amazing restaurants on the island so definitely make sure to venture out!
-If you want to do horseback riding, make sure to book that in advance as both the companies I found on the island were full when we were there
-Local phone calls cost money from your room so you need to go to the front desk and ask them to call to make reservations

Room Tip: We had an ocean view room, it did have a view of the ocean but it was pretty far, we could see it th...

Was so excited to finally visit the Turks and Caicos. Arrived at the hotel and took forever to check in. Seems like just poorly maintained, the bath always had 3 inches of water while you showered and got a surprise on the second day with water coming out of the light fixture in the master bath ceiling. Seems like it was caused from the bathroom above, but not surprised that the management had no comments. Then again, no one at the front desk makes eye contact unless they are forced to talk to you. Not sure I'd ever visit here again

Loved our week at the Sands; oceanfront room gave a view of God's majesty every morning; the staff is customer friendly; housekeeper we had each day was friendly and greeted me each day. Big John at the excursion desk is Mr Can-do. He aims to make your vacation memorable. he arranged a great 1/2 day excursion for us with little notice and our last day my daughter wanted her hair braided and within 20 minutes, LIly was by the pool braiding her hair. Big John knows how to make things happen and he is happy to do so. He is a major asset to his resort. Also, eating at Hemingways is consistently excellent and the view is amazing. FInally, front desk staff is professional, polite and friendly. I needed Tylenol for my daughter late one evening and the front desk person personally drove me in her car to get it. We will be back.

Room Tip: Pick a room in your price range, because the entire resort is beautiful and you are steps away from...

My wife and I stayed at the Sands in mid-December, and found the place perfect! It was reasonably-priced and tremendously comfortable. The grounds are well-kept, and the screened-in balconies, which we thought were odd at first, allowed us to sit outside without being bitten. We were somehow upgraded to a Garden View apartment, and it was terrific...spacious with a washer/dryer, mini-fridge, etc. The hotel restaurant, Hemingway's, was just right...casual, good food, good service, right on the beach. We were within walking distance of the other resorts (via the beach) and the local bars, restaurants and the few shops on Grace Road. We never go to the same place twice, but would return to T&C, mainly because of our experience at the Sands!

Room Tip: For a single room, Garden View is the way to go.
