“Best Island Vacation Ever”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 15, 2013

We just spent the last five days in an two-bedroom Oceanview Suite and were delighted. This was our first trip to TCI and the Sands is perfect for a family with teenage children. The room (more like a villa) was huge and comfortable, everything is just a few steps away. Delighted to have a washer/dryer.

Hemingway's is a comfortable indoor/outdoor restaurant and a good value. Best mojitos ever! And all the no-charge watersports were terrific. My 18-year old son wants a Hobie Cat now.

Thanks to the staff for the recommendations on local restaurants (Mr. Grouper & Smokey's were excellent) and for guidance to Paradise Scooters for a day riding around the island.

Only question? We were in the 4's...which are the 3's with the direct ocean views? We want to book our next trip SOON.

Room Tip: If you choose an ocean view room, ask for one in the 3's.

I just came back from my fifth trip to turks and caicos, my second to the sands and everytime I go back I'm never disapointed, of all the places i'd been is still the best beach ever.if you want to snorkel walk to coral gardens to the bight reef, is around 25 to 30 minutes walk from the beach to the left of the sands past beaches resort, trust me you will liked! We ate at Bay bistro next to the sands a 3 minutes walk to the left of the hotel we also walk to cactus cafe a 10 min. walk and to mister grouper 15 min.walk, once you get here you will know this is not a cheap island but if you do a little reserch you can find nice places to eat.if you feel like eating in a nice pricey restaurant try coco bistro. The sands is 15 min. from the airport and the fare is $14 a person some will try to charge you more if you are traveling alone they will charge you for 2 people I don't know why they do that.We only did one tour the ocean outback with cap. Bill was fun! The sands has a suttle van to the market twice a day for $9 a person and the bellman will help you carry your groceries just remember you can't buy alcohol on sunday!! We stay in a one bedroom because it has a full kitchen with utensils, plates, blender, wine opener, everythink you need. bring you own condiments.the units also have a washer and dryer very convenient. the sands also charges for local phone calls so watch out make sure you review the bill they were charges that were not mine $121 for the restaurant hemingways, if you are a returning guest make to to mention this when you book you get a 15% off.I hope you enjoy your vacation!

My wife and I just went here for our honeymoon and were very pleased. The beach is breathtaking great water where you can view a variety of fishes stingrays and crabs. The rooms were very spacious had a nice screened in porch which offer a great view of the ocean. It was great that they had a washer and dryer and kitchen area in the suite. They're cleaning staff was incredible, they even took care of dishes for us which is pretty rare. They offer complimentary paddle boards and kayaks which were really fun. They have a spa on site and a nice fitness center in the hospitality lounge. Overall it was a great place to stay.

There are however a few minor flaws:

They have a supermarket shuttle offer for $20 which takes you to a pricey far away grocery store. There is actually a much closer and cheaper store less than half a mile away called the gourmet graceway which I highly recommend. I would further warn people to avoid the sand dollar their onsite convenience store at all costs. It's a really bad ripoff $8 for a bag of chips, $4 bucks for a Gatorade. Turks is a pretty expensive island so keep that tip in mind if you stay there. I would recommend a combo of cooking and eating out if you're on a budget. Lack of room service was disappointing but they have a decent restaurant on premise called hemingways. It's a bit pricey but we didn't have a bad meal there. (For example their 8 oz filet costs the same as a 16 oz filet and two sides at Jimmy's diver bar a couple miles down the road.)

Then the only other other downside is the lack of the nightlife. Most restaurants/bars close at 10pm two note worthy exceptions are Danny boy and our favorite Jimmy's dive bars, (don't let the name fool you great food and very reasonably priced).

For a honeymoon this was perfect, partying wasn't high on our priority list we wanted a beautiful romantic and elegant place to stay and the sands fits that perfectly.

I would like to say Hello to Ri ann, Priscilla,Shamara, Eugene, Big John and all the rest of the staff at the Sands, I would like to say hi and Thank you for all your kindness and wonderful care that you gave us while there.
We Dined at the Hemingway Restaurant and the food was wonderful....mouth watering, and the service was nice hats off to the Staff and Chief Bravo, while there we rented scooters from Paradise Scooters and travel around the Beautiful Island, a must do, I will say this come prepared to spend money.....the cost on the Island is expensive, While there please go check out a place called Boogaloos, the food there is very good and you will love the down home atmosphere. I drown in Pina Co Lada,....yum yum, lol, oh yes if you need transportation seek out Eugene he will give you VIP treatment and he has a really nice vehicle. If you like to Gamble there is a Casino as well.

enjoy all the Excursion, Island hop, Snorkeling, Spa, Horse back riding......Just do it all if you can, I promise you will love it. We will be back.

Have Fun

Daddy D and Ms Grayson

Room Tip: Get an Ocean view suite.....Beautiful view, and peaceful as well as romantic.

I was there in early July 2013. The rooms/suites are roomy and generally well appointed. It was great having a washer and dryer in the suite. The tvs work less than perfectly and there are some amenities [e.g, hair dryer] that could really use an upgrade. The property overall is nice and reasonably well maintained. None of the pools are really suited for swimming. The beach is lovely. The included watersports are limited and the water sports desk is less than outgoingly friendly. It is totally worth taking a walk down the beach to Bight Reef for snorkeling. The hotel will lend equipment if you don't have it. Also, the hotel is perfectly located for watching the sun set. The kitchen in the suites are a real bonus as the restaurant [good] at the property and surrounding areas are extremely expensive. It is nearly impossible to get out of local restaurants for less than $70 per person at dinner.
The reception/concierge staff is friendly, but not reliable sources of info except for Shawanna. Also, Big Blue Unlimited is a far superior operation [though expensive] to the ones recommended in the first instance by the staff. The spa is not fully staffed to the point where getting an appointment really depends on luck.

Dear sm381,

Thank you for taking the time to share your experiences with us and your kind words regarding our staff especially Shamara, this will be shared with her and our entire team.

We are delighted you found our rooms/suites to be clean, spacious and well-appointed. Yes, many guests find it a bonus to have a washer/dryer in our suites as well. Indeed, our grounds are quite lovely and we are happy you noticed how well maintained the landscaping is. There are a number of tropical Caribbean foliage throughout, from Orange Cordia, Purple Ruellia, White Ginger Orchids, Jasmine, Dessert Rose, to Plumerias and so many others.

With regard to Big Blue Unlimited, they run a great operation and are considered one of the best amongst the many other wonderful tour operators as well.

We are sorry the TV in your room wasn’t working so well, and hope that you did report it to us and that we addressed it quickly. If it was not, please let us know so that we can prevent future occurrences. Additionally, we shared your remarks about your experience with booking spa appointments so that we can make any necessary improvements.

Again, thank you for your feedback it is because of caring guest such as yourselves that we have a concrete basis for improvement

With warm tropical regards

Stayed at the Sands June 2-11 and couldn't have been more satisfied with our stay. It is not pretentious, leaning more to the utilitarian aspect of beach living-exactly what we were looking for. Great service in Hemingway's and on the beach. A mention of Carolyn, Larry, Steve, and the rest of the staff who made our stay so pleasant. Will return again.

We just returned from the Sands. Can not say enough about the people, accomodations, beach, Ocean Vibes crew, beach crew. We loved, loved, loved it. Thanks to everyone who made it special. Larry was always there with a friendly smile and Big John booked all our excursions.
Clean, quiet, peaceful, breathtakingly beautiful. Riding the bikes from the resort around the island was a great extra. The local fish fry at Bight Park is a must on Thursday night's! Thanks Turks, we will return and dream about your island until then!

Room Tip: Building 2, third floor was lovely. View of the ocean, not too far a walk to the beach. Highest floo...

Dear Mary W,

Thank you for taking the time to share your experiences with us we are pleased that you found Larry, John and the Pool & Beach Team to be friendly and helpful. We are happy to know that you enjoyed your one bedroom ocean view suite and we will be certain to share your comments with our entire team.

Also, it was nice to know that you enjoyed the Island Fish Fry at the Children’s Park on Lower Bight Road. Indeed, with the food booths, arts and crafts and music it makes for a fun experience for all while experiencing the local flavors and culture of TCI.

Again, thank you for your feedback, we look forward to the opportunity to welcome you back.

Sincerely yours,

Adrian Archer
