We just returned from a 4 night stay at this hotel. We were a bit unlucky in the fact that it rained pretty much every day. Our room was a ground floor in building 3 with a path to the beach. The view was ok but i guess if you are up higher then you would have seen more. The service in the bar and restaurant was excellent and we ate here 2 out of the 4 nights. Prices were really good and i that was a reason i picked this hotel. Beach is amazing, jacuzzi was nice. I would return.

My husband and I have been to several Caribbean Islands and I will have to say Turks and Caicos and our stay at the Sands at Grace Bay is number one so far! If you want a beach vacation with quiet serene beaches and emerald waters this is the place. The beaches at the Sands were never crowded during our stay on Thanksgiving week.

The property at the Sands is located on one of the most beautiful stretches of beaches on Providenciales- Grace Bay. You can walk down this stretch of beach for miles. The Sands does have a wonderful restaurant - Hemingways- however you don't have to stop there. If you like to walk there are several beach front restaurants in each direction. Not to mention you can walk to them from the street if beach walking is not your thing. At night you could either grab a cab or walk to most of the restaurants in the area. There is a grocery store also within walking distance (if you don't have to many packages). There is a shuttle however that takes you directly to the store from the Sands. The pools at the Sands are beautiful and there is something for everyone- large pools, smaller pools with more privacy and even a lazy river.

We rented a car one day and drove to Taylor Bay (voted one of the best beaches in the world I believe). You can walk out in the water forever. The serenity of it is unbelievable. Driving is on the left which is a little scary. Most of the homes on this part of the island were very high end and magnificent as they overlooked the most bluest waters I have seen. Driving around you can stop at the Conch shack for a bite to eat and drink.

As for shopping- if you are a big shopper and like the chain stores you will not find them here. Most of the shops on Provodenciales are owned by Artisans and sell hand made items and souveniers. We found this to be just enough for our shopping needs. The shops are located within walking distance of the Sands in the Salt Mills and you can walk a little farther to Port of Call. There is shopping there as well.

Our room at the Sands was ocean view , was very clean and had a wonderful screened in porch (they all do). We left the sliders open most of our stay. We had a fridge and microwave but there are units here with full kitchens. Both my husband and I enjoy eating out on vacation so if you do as well dinner for two will run you about $120-180, lunch-$80-100 and breakfast $40-60. You will find no Hard Rock Cafe, McDonalds etc on this island.

One of the things I did notice there were alot of families. We did travel during Thanksgiving but I did talk to one of the employees at the Sands and this is a preferred family destination. What this means is there is no night life (clubs etc) in this area. there was live music during the dinner hours at alot of the restaurants. We noticed either familes travel here of couples in their 40's to 60's. We are in our 50's and loved it!

Alot of water sports on this island. Fishing, sunset sailing, parasailing, scuba and snorkeling everywhere! I did hear that our travel time (November) was not the best for visibility however. The waters are a bit choppier.

We are already planning the next trip to the Sands so that we can visit the remaining areas of Turks and Caicos. You can take a ferry from Provodenciales to North Caicos. Then you could rent a car and drive to Middle Caicos. I believe you woudl need to fly to remaining Caicos and Grand Turk.

Room Tip: Our ocean view room at the Sands was roomy, clean and had a wonderful screened in porch. In fact th...

The Sands was a fantstic place. Locared right on the beach ang only minutes to Grace Bay. We found out why the beach is one of the top 10 in the world. Miles of fine powered sand. The hotel is landscaped beautifully. The room we had was a studio, with a small kitchenette and a small washer /dryer. We would definitely stay here again.

In my opinion, of all the major hotels & resorts here, there aren't any really "bad" places to stay on Provo. The entire beach is divine; it's Grace Bay after all! We got a great price here which was the main reason for our decision. Having been to Provo twice before, we were not disappointed. Our room was unbelievable; 1 bedroom oceanview which was huge and an awesome view. We stopped by the IGA and stocked up on drinks and breakfast/lunch items. As with pretty much eveything on the island, food & drink are extremely expensive. Front desk staff at the hotel were great and very helpful. Depending on what pricing is for other places, I would totally stay here again. Great time!

Room Tip: Unless you will not be in your room other than to sleep, avoid the studio courtyard rooms; very tiny...

My husband and I just returned from a much needed get away. We have been to Turks and Caicos before and have enjoyed other hotels very much. We did some research on-line and decided to book with Sands based on on-line reviews and price. The room we booked was not consistent with the room we were brought to when checking in. The door to the room was flimsy, had a large window with broken wooden blinds. Upon opening the door there was a small room with a bed, the corner of which barely cleared the door. The bed was apparently a UK queen, which is smaller than a US queen sized bed. My husband is 6' 2" and would not have fit in this smaller, UK queen-sized bed. The room had a small room on the other side of the small hallway with a coffee maker and small fridge. We immediately asked for other options as the description we agreed to on-line was definitely painting a MUCH different picture. The only options were to upgrade and so we agreed to look at whatever else was available. The people at the front desk were very helpful and friendly. Finally, we agreed to a new, more expensive room. We were in a building closest to the beach and had a screened in deck which opened to its own path down to the beach. Great. We finally felt better, although a little cheated having had to pay more for what we were expecting in the first place. After waiting for housecleaning to clean the room for 4 hours and for the room to be inspected we were FINALLY brought into the room. Having traveled all day we were exhausted and anxious to unpack, shower, and get ready for dinner. We had originally figured we'd throw bathing suits on and head to the beach. However, with the room situation we couldn't really do that. Upon entering our long awaited room we found a large puddle from a broken air conditioning unit. We were embarrassed to call the front desk at this point since we already felt like we were seen as being high maintenance. However, a large puddle needs to be dealt with. A maintenance person was over within minutes and he plugged the leak. Fine, we were on our way. After showering I tried to use the hair dryer, it was attached to a broken outlet, which also was fixed that night. Needless to say, dinner was delayed... After staying in the room for a few days here were the additional problems that, unfortunately, my husband and I decided to just deal with since we just wanted to try to enjoy our vacation. (1) we could hear EVERYTHING going on next door, conversations, shuffling of feet, e-v-e-r-y-t-h-i-n-g (2) the once loved screened in deck had a floor that clearly hadn't been cleaned properly in a very, very long time. there was a layer of sand over the entire floor and apparently sand fleas. I have NEVER felt so dirty in a hotel before. I usually shower once, maybe twice per day on vacation. In this room with the film of sand on everything I found myself showering twice or three times per day. We showered when we came back from the beach. Unfortunately, the lack of keeping things clean allowed for sand fleas to become ubiquitous throughout our room. We had our bed sheets cleaned, showered before going to bed and would still wake up with new bug bites we didn't have before going to bed. I felt that I needed to wash everything extra upon returning home as I was afraid of bringing flea eggs or larvae home with us because of its clear infestation in the room we stayed. Upon expressing our concern when leaving the management seemed to not think having a sand flea infestation was a problem. I guess when I spend about $400 per night, I have much higher standards by which I expect a room to be kept.

Things we liked about the hotel were the staff in general. Everyone throughout the vacation was overall helpful. We had a beautiful view from the beach. The food and drinks from Hemingways Restaurant were wonderful and it was really nice to be able to order from our seats on the beach.

We have stayed at other hotels where the room opens to a private sanded path to the beach and bugs weren't a problem there. Perhaps having better room cleaning standards, a private foot bath for guests before entering their rooms, or spraying down the flooring of the deck regularly would help with the problem... because although a problem wasn't acknowledged, there is a problem with bugs happily living in a hotel room. Although having seen two rooms only a few rooms away from our room having their mattresses switched out makes me think that the management IS aware that a problem exists...

Room Tip: avoid a room in the building closest to the beach and on the ground floor. honestly there are really...

We appreciate every ones feedback and will look into all issues that are brought to our attention to determine the validity and take corrective action as necessary. We encourage everyone to contact the hotel directly for more particulars or questions on our room descriptions or bedding. Our studio courtyard room (lead in category) has queen size beds. All other rooms have king size beds. The A/C leaking is not up to our usual high standard. However, we are pleased to know the response time from our maintenance department was quick and efficient, and they were able to fix the problem. The hair dryer is plugged into an outlet that has a safety fuse which prevents individuals from getting shocked if it were to be accidentally submerged in water. The building code requires all bathroom electrical outlets to have this safety feature. Our maintenance report shows the fuse was tripped possibly by someone pressing the “test” button causing the power to shut off. The reset button was pushed to reactivate power to the outlet. With regard to the housekeeper, there is a thorough checklist when cleaning rooms which includes sweeping and mopping the floors, including the patio. Normally, housekeeping service is only needed once per day by our guests. However we would be happy to have provided service multiple times a day to keep the room clean.

You mentioned sand fleas, these do occur naturally on many beaches throughout the world. They can be more prevalent and active after rain. During your stay with us we had had multiple rain showers (which is unusual for this time of year), hence the increase in activity of sands fleas. Unfortunately, unlike mosquitoes they can be hard to see, as they are only about 1/16 of an inch. They do not live indoors, they are found in and around sand and mud near springs, ponds, creeks, lakes, and trees. In most cases, bites occur at night while people dine outdoors but do not notice the irritation until later. Let me be clear, there is no infestation. If we had an infestation, multiple guests would have come forward. Sometimes people are extra sensitive to sand fleas, we make the following recommendations to avoid exposure to them. Sand fleas come out at dusk and tend to be more active again at dawn. For some, insect repellent usually helps before heading out. Check the label to make sure that the repellent works on sand fleas and not just mosquitoes.

We want to make a correction to your comment about seeing staff change out a mattress. It was simply due to our regularly scheduled mattress replacement. Most hotels do the same based on wear and tear and life expectancy of mattresses change outs occur in our hotel throughout the year based on and determined by these factors. By no means was your assumption correct.

Lastly, we appreciate suggestive comments in all forms as it gives us a means to either praise a member of staff or correct any short comings in our operation. Again, thank you for your feedback.
