“Wonderful Beach Location and Setting”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 5, 2011

We have been to many beach locations in Hawaii, Mexico, and the continental US and this was as nice of a beach location as we have experienced. The the turquise water is beautiful and perfect for swimming (other than the hot tub, we didn't use the pools at all) Tthe beaches are wonderful great for walking. The resort was perfect for our needs, as it is very laid back. Service was available, but nothing is pushed on you. Calvin, the food beverage/food service guy at the beach is as friendly a person as you will ever meet. The grounds and gardens are beautiful, as has been frequently stated in other reviews.

We did not feel renting a car was necessary, as there are several outstanding resteraunts within walking distance. We particulary enjoyed Coco Bistro, Caicos Cafe, and Bella Luna. If you like to snorkel but are not into commercialized tours, walk about an hour done the beach to the Windsong beach are (just past Beaches) and rent some snorkel equipment from Jodi ($5/hour). There is a protected reef area just off shore with excellent snorkeling. Overall, a great vacation at Royal West Indies, T & C . We WILL return!

nothing negative to say. all pluses. room was great a 1 bedroom suite garden view. quiet and the quiet area was just that, quiet. beach was fantastic, on really hot days get there early and " reserve" your chaise lounge with the beach towels provided. hard working group the beach guys. restaurant reopened in nov and is outstanding. we met the chef our last night there great guy. bartenders a fantastic group of guys. dry humor and wit. jamesy is a riot and ask for the "governor" they will understand. willie the waiter fantastic. sherman the door man outstanding. accommodations were great, and our cleaning lady great.
restaurants:
Pelican Bay at the resort a must do
CoCo Bistro an absolute must do and walking distance from RWI (Royal West Indies)
Calico Jacks, inexpensive and also walking distance from RWI
Shark Bite, Somewhere taxi rides and good.
Snorkeling:
we took the trip with Silver Deep for the snorkeling/counch trip....do it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
what a great crew. Captain Pringles, alex and louisa were fantastic. the conch salad at the end of the trip was to die for., and you get to keep a conch whether you went out to get one or not.
folks a great island, great people. worth the trip and $52 for a case of beer. bring dry goods and eat breakfast and lunch at your resort room and enjoy the evening dinners out. also our favorite taxi driver was calvin dean, just a funny, great man.
do you think we enjoyed the trip, we sure did. planning for the trip back.

First time to TCI. It's rained some, but the beauty of the ocean can't be hidden. Great staff. The maids could do a little more in cleaning the rooms, i. e., mop the tile a little more. Everyone is friendly here including the guests who figure out in short order that this is the place to stay for a laid back vacation at a reasonable cost. The grilled fish at lunch at Pelican Bay is the best on the island. The internet is very reliable allowing me to work some during my vacation, something I like to do some (but not al ot) on vacation. Staying here is like being in a tropical forest, but I'm not sure what happened to the birds as there are few to be seen. Went to Beaches to visit friends. Even if the cost were the same, which it is not, I wouldn't change with the Beaches crowd. Go to Flamingo's Cafe just a short walk on the beach for an excellent fish burger. Wow!

We stayed four nights and it was a very nice experience. if you have any interest in tropical gardens, this is the place to stay. The gardens are immaculately kept and very impressive. I didn't notice much mention of the gardens in earlier reviews, so I just thought I'd mention this. We stayed in a garden room that faced a quiet, verdant inlet of palm trees, cacti, and other plants. The more expensive places did not have grounds like this, so it is a definite plus.

Most of the other points are already covered: good value, great beach, nice pools. good water sports amenities, etc. TCI is a great place to go if you love the beach, but keep in mind that beyond diving, snorkeling, and walking, there is not much to do. Also, the island has a very colonial feel and you definitely feel like you're a tourist. However, a short walk up the beach (away from the hotels) will bring you to nicely deserted stretches of sand.

At the end of our stay, there was an extra $10 restaurant charge on our bill, but as far as I'm concerned this goes with the territory. It's a resort after all; by necessity, you must inspect your bill at check-out. We pointed out the charge and they promptly removed it from our bill.

Finally, if you do not scuba dive, but want the scuba experience, try "Snuba" with Jodi at the Windsong Hotel. It is a $7 cab ride each way per person, or an hour+ walk up the beach. We walked. Well worth the underwater experience.

Before we left, we had high expectations after reading the reviews on TripAdvisor and viewing the pictures. We were very pleased that everything about the hotel was even better in person than the pictures.

When we arrived to the hotel by taxi, we were greeted immediately by the very friendly and courteous hotel staff. Once we had the keys to our room, someone followed us with our bags to our room.

Our one bedroom with full kitchen was larger than I expected, and very clean. The balcony was also very spacious with a beautiful view of one of the pools. It was especially nice to have a washer and dryer in the room. The hotel even provided laundry detergent.

The location of the hotel was great b/c there are several restaurants and bars in walking distance. The hotel provides bicycles (that have baskets on the front) for the guest to use, which made our trips to the grocery store quick and easy. The location on the beach was also great as well. The staff is always quick to set up a beach chair with a towel and there is always enough chairs for everyone. The beach and water are beautiful and on that end of the beach, less hectic. My husband and I walked pretty far along the beach and felt very lucky to be on the more peaceful end.

We walked up one end of the beach and snorkeled some coral right off the beach. The coral is right in front of Coral Gardens Hotel. We also took RWI's kayak and explored the bay as well as snorkeled some coral further from the beach.

We had a nice dinner at Coco Bistro, which is a five minute walk from the hotel. The outside patio was beautiful. Our favorite restaurant dinner was at the hotel restaurant The Pelican Bay. We really enjoyed eating in for several meals with the great food we bought from the grocery store.

The hotel atmosphere was great in the sense that a lot of people were staying there where you could meet a lot of great people and be social but not too many where you are tripping over each other, like we noticed at Beaches. It was great mixture of people with children and people without children.

We can't wait to go back again, without a doubt we will stay at the Royal West Indies. We didn't spend as nearly as much if we would have stayed at Beaches. The value was great!!! We would have extended our trip for another week if we didn't have dogs waiting for us to come home.

We made reservations from the resort's online booking option. After TWO WEEKS we were notified we were double booked and did not have the room. Confirmation number useless. Unacceptable. We plan to let everyone know to either AVOID and spend your thousands elsewhere or make sure you book via other channels. We are stuck with airfare and no plan.

My wife and I had a great time with our 20 mth old son for a week at the Royal West. Check-in was a breeze. Room was clean. Staff was generally helpful. Beach was top-notch and one of the best I've ever been too.

That being said...

RWI is about value. It's not perfect. The pools are not heated. Some of the staff could be more friendly, maybe smile occasionally.

I'd certainly stay again though, because in the end, I'd rather pay $300 a night to enjoy the beautiful beaches of TIC then $1100 a night next door. It's the same beach! We had a wonderful time and hope to return again next year.
