My wife and I stayed at the Royal West Indies for seven nights in July.
After the first afternoon my wife stated, “I could come back to this resort”. She repeated this same quote each afternoon for the next six days.
We stayed in a garden studio room, which contained a refrigerator, microwave, sink, washer and dryer (No stove). All of the appliances worked fine as did the air conditioning.
We had planned to rent a car for a few days but tropical storm Chantral modified those plans and we stayed at or near the resort the entire stay.
As other posters have stated food on the island is expensive. We had a number of meals at the Pelican Café on the grounds of the RWI. The Pelican Café offers a moderate price menu for Provo standards. Breakfast for the two of us typically cost $30 to $35, lunch $30 to $60, the two dinners we had were both under $80. Typically we did not have alcohol with our meals. Food was fine, and the staff was great.
There are a number of restaurants that are within walking distance: Flamingos (located on the beach just past Club Med, 1 lunch and 1 dinner – economical by Provo standards), Patty’s Place (on the highway – serving Jamaican Meat Patties – economical – 1 lunch), Cabana Grill (Ocean Club East – prices similar to RWI – 1 dinner), Coyaba (Dinner - Our best meal of the week – expensive), and Coco Bistro (Two dinners – Very, very good – expensive)
The Happy Hour from 5 to 7 at the bar is great. Fantastic mojitos. Great prices. & a great place to people.
We travel frequently to the Caribbean but this was our first trip to Providencials. Grace Bay is definitely one of the finest beaches in the Caribbean. The resort also has two pools and a hot tub. (And the water in the hot tub is HOT)
I see us returning to the Royal West Indies sometime in the next couple of years. The location, service, staff, and value for the money are all factors in our decision.
