“Review of Ports of Call Resort”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 4, 2013

My family just returned from a week stay at Ports of Call Resort. We were part of a larger group of scuba divers. This review is my opinion, and may not represent the views of the diving group, as I am one of the non-divers. The facility was bright and tropical, rooms were pretty much as described and very pleasant. The pool, table tennis, lounge chairs, and grounds were all quite nice. Staff friendly and helpful. The hotel provides a shuttle to Grace Bay beach if you don't feel like walking the two blocks to the beach. There isn't a lot to do for kids besides the pool and beach though. Introduction to SCUBA is available; I saw class and individual instruction. Local restaurants are quite pricey and the nearby grocery store very useful. The hotel did sponsor a couple of events; there was a bingo game, karaoke competition, and cocktail party-nice social hour.

Grace Bay beach is wonderful and calm, but two small but important caveats. There is a boat lane but it is not marked except by ropes (no signage). The other is a partially demolished concrete pier. Be careful! The water is too shallow for jumping or diving! EMS and hotel staff had to get me to the hospital to treat a serious foot injury.

Room Tip: Some rooms have balconies and most or all 1st floor rooms open to the pool and have a small table an...

I am happy that you enjoyed your stay with us. The weekly managers party and the afternoon bingo are events that we just started in recent months and have been well received. Thank you for your kind comments.

For our second time on the island, we stayed for the first time at Ports of Call hotel. We had a nice renovated room, 5 min walk to the beach, well located (close to restaurants, grocery store, etc.) and friendly staff. Of course Turks & Caicos is more expensive than destinations such as Cuba, Mexico & Dominican republic but you pay for what you get: amazing beach, excellent restaurants and a more exotic destination...

Negative aspects: chairs & umbrellas at the beach are only available from 9h30-10h to 4h30 which is too late in the morning and too early in the afternoon in my opinion. You have to pay 8$ a day for an umbrella, which is annoying. Breakfasts could be better.

Nevertheless we would certainly go back to this hotel again and recommand it.

Thank you for your kind comments on both the island and our resort. We agree that the island is a little more expensive than some of the low priced destinations but we also believe that the incredible beaches, guaranteed weather, friendly people, cleanliness and safety of the island makes it well worth it. As for your comments re the breakfast offering needing some improvement ...we agree, and we will be introducing a few more items to the selection when we launch our 2014 winter season in mid-December.
Being one of the lowest priced resorts on the island we have to continue to charge for the umbrellas but we do provide the chaise lounges and the services of the beach attendent at no charge to our guests. We do leave a few lounges on the beach for guests to use past 4:30 and early in the morning before our beach attendent arrives. Based on your comments I will look into whether the number should be increased. Thank you again for your positive comments and we hope to have you stay with us again soon.

We stayed three nights at this hotel and we had a great time. The hotel is very nice and the pool and jacuzzi were great after the day at the beach.

The grocery store across the street is GREAT. They have a deli where you can get sandwiches made and bring back to the hotel. The prices there were very reasonable and the sandwiches they made were BIG!!!

I spent 10 days at the Ports of Call Resort the end of June. I have traveled to several Carribbean Islands, Bermuda and Hawaii and have never had a more relaxing vacation! Everyone at this resort are so friendly and helpful! From Charles at breakfast to Kendra and Evelyn and Martin and of course Watson!! This was my first visit to the Turks and I will return. Yes, it is expensive and overpriced but the beach is amazing and this resort is wonderful. The only complaint I have is the breakfast could be better! I travel with a girl friend because her husband won't fly and we had a wonderful vacation at the Port of Call! Can't wait to go back!!

Room Tip: stayed on 3rd. floor....they carried our luggage for us.....room was very clean and comfortable...re...

Avoid this hotel and turks and caicos in general. Overpriced exploitation, noisy hotel. Kids at pool screaming all day (not playing lilke normal kids, which we do not mind). We complained to the management and they did nothing. Beware, construction work on the premises. Misreprensentation by hotel representatives. We asked a change of room to avoid the pool and bar noise at all hours. Were told no rooms availabe. After insisting for sevral minutes, a room was finally found. The manager pretended not knowing if a room was available or not. Noisy old fashioned air conditioners. On the island in general, overpriced food and restaurants in Grace Bay. Thank God, the supermarket has a salad bar which we used almost daily. The pretext, everything is imported. We live also in an area where everything is imported but the prices are still more reasonable. Airport is awful. 2 hours wait in a non air con area made of wood and tin (a chicken coop). We have traveled all over the world including lots of developing countries and most of central and latin america and never encountered such a poor airport. People, do not be afraid, visit Mexico, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Peru and avoid these overpriced and exploitative caribbean islands who pry on ignorant tourists.

My apologies that you had some issues with your trip to the island and our resort. As you can see from the other reviews, this is rare. The airport is under renovations to better accomodate the increasing popularity of the island. Prices for food and drinks is higher than many economy destinations but in-line with higher-end Caribbean islands. While we are in the middle of repairing some damage to the roof this is a seperate building away from the rooms and we have instructed the contractor to not start work until 9:30 am to minimize guest inconvenience.
I am told that the work will be completed within the week. I can not comment on your comments regarding the noisy children. While our resort caters to all ages, we do not usualy have alot of children staying with us and have not received complaints about them in the past. In fact, the quiet, serene oasis like look and feel of our resort is one of our selling points.
That said, I will address the issue with our staff and ensure that they ae more proactive in the event of noisy children or guests. If you should ever decide to give our wonderful island a second chance please contact myself so I can attempt to make up for the shortcomings of your first visit.

For our 1st time in Provo, what a wonderful surprise, Ports of Call is THE place to stay for a right price. A lovely tropical atrium with a beautiful swimming pool. Large clean room, nice hotel crew.
The most fabolous Provo beach is very close, 5 min walk.
And there's also friendly bars and restaurants around corners.
Go and rest

Thank you for taking the time to write a review recognizing our friendly staff and location. Most peoples first choice is to stay at a resort on the beach.. Although we have our own staffed beach, we are a one minute shuttle drive or a 3 minute walk and yet our proximity to the restaurants, bars and shopping in our opinion makes us a better and much more economical choice. It is reviews like yours that will help more prospective travellers choose to stay with us.
